Name: Factorio
Platform: PC
Visual style: classic late 90s-early 00s pixel art
Story Genre: Tutorial. Seriously, the campaign is nothing more than an over-glorified tutorial to prepare you for the main game.
Details
Factorio is a game for autists with way too much time on their hands. The basic story is that you are trapped on a planet infested by sedan-sized bugs. Your only hope is to build a rocket and fly back home, but you only have a few basic tools. The goal is to build a factory capable of assembling your rocket while defending against the inevitable attacks from the bugs.
The game is a massive time sink and it will take you several tries to get your factory right. The ultimate goal is the rocket, but the game itself is about automation: you build infrastructure, and then dedicate that infrastructure to building more infrastructure. You know you're playing the game correctly when the game is effectively playing itself, with minimal player involvement: purging bug nests, selecting research objectives, defending the factory, or directing the factory's growth should be the only actions a player needs to take by the late game.
As I said, this game is a massive time sink, and will require 60+ hours
per game. This means it requires an autistic level of dedication that I think can be found here on the Farms.
Or we can create a Kiwi Farms only server and play together,
skipping the whole "automation" thing in favor of some brute labor.
