[Game] Rogue Trader: Heroes of the Imperium

"You owe me an armsman, Dampier," says Trask "Replace my dead soldier and I'd shake your hand and call us even."
Sounds like he is just asking for us to plant someone in his organization.

"Lord Winterscale, I must beg your forgiveness, but Trask and I must discuss replacing his man." William leads Trask over to a far away corner.

"Alright, I can't replace your soldier now. However, give me some time to ask around, look for someone of suitable skills to replace your mercenary, plus a little extra, my house has contacts in the mechanicus and we could procure some items of "questionable" legality. First, I'll need a little help from you though.
Fel 48, Charm+5 bonus to tests, 5 Fel with nobles. Rolled 35.

"Assuming I was even interested," says Trask, trying to disguise his interest "What kind of help?"

The other great houses are planning a coup on Winterscale tonight, going to carve his realm up into tiny pieces. Now, I figure if we throw our lot in with Winterscale he owes us big time. I know the other houses are planning on taking you out. So if we throw our lot in with Winterscale, we can let the grunts do the dying for us, save our own skins, and come out a little richer.

Trask's eyes widen.

"The other great Houses, as in who? That bitch Chorda and some of her hangers on?"

"I've been told it's Chorda and the Armengardes acting as the ringleaders. The scales are heavily in Winterscale's favor if we throw our lot in with him giving us the best chance at survival, and, possibly eliminate Chorda while curry a favor from Winterscale. And of course, once that business is tied up I can replace your man. What say you?

"I thank you for this information, Lord Dampier, but I am going to extricate myself from this matter. The Cerberus will have little impact on such a battle, and I don't want to be on the losing side of this. You should do the same. The Armengardes and the Chorda together might well be enough to take out old Winterscale. Lady Chorda wouldn't make a move this bold if she wasn't sure she was going to win. I'm going to sit this one out and deal with the victor. If you tell Calligos he'd owe you a life debt if you survive, but leave my name out of it."

Dorian making sure Trask is still in earshot speaks to his captain. "Well Lord Captain it looks like we are going to be receiving an even larger share of the vault then. Not to mention all the shipping and trading lanes that are soon to be for the taking. There is a fortune to be made that's for sure."

Trask turns to Dorian.

"What's all this about vaults and trading routes? Now you're speaking my language."

Then, to William, "If there's profit to be made I might be persuaded to change my mind."

Dorian answers Trask "My Lord, we wouldn't be willing to stick our necks out for Winterscale if there wasn't a profit. And once this business is over there will be a vacuum of power to fill and the houses that fall will have assets to dispense to those that remain."

"That's an interesting scenario you propose. Alright, Dampier, I think I see your perspective here. Let's grab Calligos before he leaves and tell him the good news."

"Excellent! I'm delighted we can count on your help, Trask." With that William turns around and returns to Calligos.

"Lord Winterscale, if I might trouble you a moment longer. I do believe there is an issue you should be informed about."

"Hmm? What is it Lord Dampier? I told you we could deal with our mutual endeavor in the morning. As I'm sure you can see, I have pressing matters to attend to which you have not made an easier on me."

He's clearly irritated that your man broke up his party with his totally-justified murder.

"Well, as it happens, quite a few of the other houses have a coup planned on you. They're planning on carving up your realm among themselves and put Percival in charge. Seeing as how our business takes place in your realm, it seemed proper to inform you."

"What?"

Calligos leans in closer and lowers his voice.

"What Houses? Do you have any proof of this? You're making a serious accusation. What are you getting out of telling me?"

"They wanted me to throw my lot in with them. Chorda and the Armengardes are the ones leading this. They plan to divide your system and put Percival in charge. As for what I gain? I'm a man of my word and interested in finishing our arrangement."

"Or you could be attempting to lead me into a war against my strongest rivals so I'll be distracted while you take the contents of that vault for yourself. You seemed awfully worried about what was inside it before. Again, I ask if you have any proof?"

"We have only our word, sir. We are not asking you do anything rash or even to make the first move but to take the necessary precautions to protect yourself. It is a gamble; but is it one you can afford not to make?"

Calligos thinks it over for a moment.

"If you're lying, Dampier, I'm going to make sure you regret it for the rest of your short life. I need to go have Percival killed, why don't you see if you can get into contact with the conspirators and sew some confusion."

Not going to let this die just because of Alien Earth.

Excellent, I'll try and get in contact with the conspirators over vox.
