With more and more video games being online only or completely digital in nature any news of server shutdowns can mean the complete erasure of an entire experience that afterwards will be nothing but a memory. There is also titles who while they won't have their entire content made accessible, their multiplayer will be. The fortunate few will be revived by a private server but a good portion won't. This is a thread to discuss upcoming game and service shutdowns.

To get things started here are a few EA games set to go offline soon:
  • Rory McIlroy PGA Tour - January 16
  • The Simpsons: Tapped Out - January 24
  • Blood & Glory Immortals - January 29
  • Contract Killer: Sniper - January 29
  • Deer Hunter Classic - January 29
  • Dino Hunter: Deadly Shores - January 29
  • Eternity Warriors 4 - January 29
  • Frontline Commando 2 - January 29
  • Frontline Commando: D-Day - January 29
  • UFC 3 - February 17
  • EA Sports UFC Mobile 2 - March 13
  • NCAA 14 - March 13
  • Madden NFL 21 - June 30

As for a game that isn't related to EA, Elder Scrolls Legends will go down on January 30, 2025.

I played several of these, so it's kind of shocking they will be shut down like UFC 3. I thought that game was pretty recent, but the real ones that should cause an uproar are Deer Hunter Classic and Dino Hunter: Deadly Shores. We should break out our pitchforks and march on EA's headquarters.

If Deer Hunter Classic is so classic, why's it being shut down?

Anyone remember the Gamespy shutdown? (God it was ten years a go). A huge number of games were affected. This, from Reddit, is a conservative list.

Some of these I know were saved by GOG and my certain modding communities. Among the titles not mentioned was Battlefield 2142 (essentially a mod of Battlefield 2), which I was part of helping revive - a brilliant amateur coder managed to reconfigure everything and get a new server up and running and it was managed by an old school clan. I have no idea if it's even still up. On a full server with loads of old school players, Titan Assault was a fantastic, incredibly competitive game mode that has never been replicated since. I actually really miss it.

Some games having their servers shut down in February 2025:

  • Realm Royale Reforged (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch PC) — February 17
  • EA Sports UFC 3 (PlayStation 4, Xbox One) — February 17
  • Hood: Outlaws and Legends (PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC — February 18
  • Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance (PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC) — February 24
  • The Golf Club (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC) — February 28
  • The Golf Club 2 (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC) — February 28
  • KartRider: Drift (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC) — February 28
  • Disco Dodgeball Remix (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch) — February 28

Still mourning Dead Island Epidemic from 10 years ago. There's been nothing like it before or since and it's the only game I've ever been truly amazing at. Battlerite and FANGS were KINDA close, but focused much more on tight, close in combat with less overall strategy.

Don’t forget that GameSpy also included nearly every single Wii and DS game, and Nintendo didn’t feel like taking over the servers themselves. Except those have been mostly brought back through Wiimmfi, albeit with dead communities for everything that isn’t Mario Kart.
