Gamefaqs - An old gaming website that still exists somehow

They also had a no spoiler rule. Common knowledge has it that someone once got banned for saying the Titanic sinks at the end. No idea if that's true, though.
Yes, I recall getting modded and temporarily suspended for saying that Juliet dies at the end of Romeo & Juliet.
That's true, though GameFAQs felt ultra-restrictive at the time by the fact that it had mods at all. Even forums on major services at the time like AOL and Yahoo were either practically or totally unmoderated, attracting total shitheads spewing diarrhea long before the days of smartphones and India getting online.

That's pretty much it. Early GameFAQs had bugfuck retarded rules like requiring full censoring for curse words, so even "f***", like was used on the entire rest of the internet, would stick you with a nasty moderation that'd drop your karma. There were no word filters, either, so you had to censor yourself or face the wrath of mods. Which, in retrospect, was fucking retarded. CJayC had the wherewithal to write something to automatically report your post if you included the word "gay" anywhere, but couldn't include something that says "if "fuck", then replace "fuck" with "****" " in the code?

But also, obvious baitposting was unpunished, so a lot of trolls would baitpost and then those who'd respond would get in trouble for breaking the TOS, leading to a hell of a lot of resentment against the staff. The rules were bad and the mods were too. So, a lot of people nuked their accounts as a final "fuck you".
One reason I hate the progressive left is because they act like the internet would fall apart without censorship when the only thing that would get hurt is the corporate nature of the web. The web was always "the streets" where people could say anything until wokedom and progressivism fused into some weird sometimes-opposed ideology.

Sounds about right. They were really strict on the no spoiler rule, going as far as to pull shit like that, but they were also fucking retarded about it. You'd be in big trouble if you said "Aeris dies in Final Fantasy VII", but you wouldn't if you said "Cloud, Barret, Tifa, Red XIII, Cait Sith, Cid, Vincent, and Yuffie do not die by Sephiroth's sword at the end of the Temple of the Ancients, on the first disc of Final Fantasy VII." That kind of mongoloid-tier moderation resulted in a hell of a lot of resentment against the staff and the way the forums were run. No wonder people suicided their accounts all the time.

Funny enough, GameFAQs was the first place I ever saw woke nonsense in my life, ages ago. Though I remember the early days being full of more fedora atheism rather than gay-worshipping, and just as insufferable.

Many of the online atheists at the time ended up explicitly anti-woke. For whatever reason, the atheists that went woke were sort of 2nd generation (see, Rebecca Watson and others of the skeptic movement) and wokeness nowadays is sort of fusing into this music festivval-witchy vibes-spirituality mumbo jumbo because woke is about feelings and so is the modern female supernatural power fantasy stuff.

I think your assessment is wrong. I think many of the atheists then are actually friendlier to Christians now as brothers in arms against the woke shit. I'm pretty sure even Richard Dawkins at this point would rather deal with a moderate Christian scientist than atheist radical SJW marxist. World changed since then and so have the battle lines. Priorities shifted. The Religious Right is no longer in control.

I don't think that's him. I've looked high and low, but never found a picture of CJayC / Jeffrey Craig Veasey. He kept his powerlevel in check to an impressive degree.
Nah, I know. It was just one of those things I used to post back in the day because these pics came up when you searched him on google. I was honestly surprised they still came up (along with the black principle).

You'd be surprised how many GameFAGs would fall for it.

There was a point, although I can't remember exactly when, where I got dinged for saying Aeris dies and convinced someone to overturn it by pointing out that a re-release trailer for the game prominently featured Aeris death and that something that is featured in marketing for the game couldn't be considered a spoiler.

The mods/admins were autistic to a ridiculous degree on the spoiler rule, but you could exploit it at least after around 2010 I think if you argued it autistically enough back at them.

In fairness, they've always had problems. People were always so quick to be the biggest fucking assholes, even back in the late 2000s. But yeah, it seems like around the time of Gamer Gate that it really went down the drain.
I remember Gamefaqs as being one of the few normie sites you actually could discuss Gamergate as it went down. The userbase seemed to be pretty evenly split too. Gamefaqs joining the rest of the internet in the leftist shitpile didn't start until 2016, because that's when the normie leftists got triggered by the "Trump = Nazi" meme the MSM kept spouting and the mods started to crack down on people arguing against leftist causes like gay rights and started driving out non-leftist mods from the mod staff.
Correct. The account suicide text became a meme on GameFAQs that was copied by other people either verbatim or in style for awhile. I can't recall the original motivations for the account suicide but a lot of people were frequently angry by moderation on GameFAQs often being biased, with dipshits like that burger huffer wallywest80 or whatever his name was consistently moderating inconsistently and with a lot of personal subjective leeway. Whatever the catalyst was, DarkCobra had simply had enough of watching him and others get nailed on the constant inconsistent moderation. Oddly it was more conservative time then, so you didn't have very much of this LGBT shit but you had bigger prudes from the other side of the political aisle. These were the days of John Ashcroft, video game censoring, etc...
Wasn't wallywest80 an unironic young earth creationist, or am I thinking of another mod?
By the way, he now lives in Gig Harbor, WA with his wife, Alexis Alvarez, and mother, Kathaleen Ann Veasey. He and Alexis (who didn't take his last name, loooooooooooool) did not have any children. CJayC has lived with his mother his entire life.
Is Alexis Alvarez Shadotak?
Nah, I know. It was just one of those things I used to post back in the day because these pics came up when you searched him on google. I was honestly surprised they still came up (along with the black principle).
Is the black principal the place where the "CJayC is black" rumor came from?

Is Alexis Alvarez Shadotak?
Could be, not sure. I remember hearing Shadotak was CJayC's wife way way back, though I don't know if that was ever confirmed.

All I can say is that the insufferable fedora atheists from way back that I kept tabs on did end up going woke in the future. I figure they're just spineless faggots who love to fight against safe targets and feel like they're revolutionaries without ever having to risk a single thing.

Hell, I remember Engymatic, a proud athiest GameFAQs mod from 20 years ago, later became completely woke. Dude was a fag way back then and he's a fag today.

Are GameFAQs GOTY awards as retarded as I remember? Every single year people there vote over the bestest game, have autistic slapfights. Which is a bloody sport.

Personally if I want pre YouTube let's plays I go to LP archives and read wonderfully inaccurate, unironically unfunny screenshots coupled with drawings and long blog posts why some user couldn't boot up their emulator.

There's autism and then there's charming autism, GameFAQs lacks appeal and has population of Myspace, people who refuse to move on or grow up.

Probably as retarded as their character contests, at least.

I feel like I'm finally starting to lose my GameFAQs memory, but I can still remember the autistic slap fights over Cloud and Link being the best for years, and then like L Block maybe won one time?

There was also a shit storm when some League of Legends guy won one time.

Do they still do that shit?

It really is something else how you can pop into a GameFAQs board you read 20 years ago and still see a handful of guys who've been there this entire time, still posting exactly like they did way back when. Some of them even still have those insufferably smug attitudes, despite being someone who has spent their best years hanging out on GameFAQs.

If anything, GameFAQs went down the same rabbithole that Kotaku did. The only saving grace for the former is that I can still look up cheat codes and strategies for a game made in 2004, for example. The latter just tried to be like every form of mainstream gaming media that has trampled the state of thr gaming industry.

It won't be long when FANDOM decides to possibly gut some more material that was saved for years, regarding how users and mods alike added their own personal tips and tricks on how to beat game bosses.

Those people live in their own little world. GameFAQs was stale long before CNet acquired it. I mean, even Veasey himself moved on from it. GameFAQs just brought a lot of people together, a lot of the cool people got sick of the hilariously dumb moderation, and moved on. Anyone that stuck around through that moderation was either really invested in the FAQ-writing community (long after the format lost relevance) or they were long-time posters accruing karma hoping to one day become moderators themselves. A priori, anyone remaining is a faggot.

I noticed it was made within 24 hours of 261 closing, ROFL.

I like how the rules prohibit all the same things that those people did that got 261 closed down to begin with. "Moderator list hidden." If they are owning fascists and are on the right side of history, why do they need to hide? Maybe it is because they push child mutilation, open borders and the complete destruction of the West and they know the roving gangs of doctors and engineers will eat them first when the food runs out.

Gamefaqs was where I learned that a lot of these guys push this woke shit not because they believe in it, but because they are so lonely and desperate that they'll say anything in the hopes that it will get them actual human contact and attention in the real world.

You could always tell because it was the loud and proud virgins who ended up supporting all this shit, complete with calling people "incels" after talking about their pathetic social lives for 20 years with reckless abandon

I still remember when you had gs at the end of your username if you came from Gamespot. Then the whole shitshow of who could mod who since Gamespot still used it's forums to access GF and one side couldn't moderate while the other could. Didn't help that both forums had vastly different moderation policies.
Oh God, I started so much shit by using Gamespot accounts to troll. That was a good time.

Here is a feminist clown whining how Forspoken flopped because nobody likes the diarrhea mouth negress main character.
The thread was removed and I had it archived before that.
Lol that guy's so fucking retarded.

I've read many user reviews from folks who obviously never played the game, saying the graphics are bad, the game is woke and that the gameplay is bad.

Its amazing how blatant racism is no longer called what it is.
Yeah, you need to PLAY THE GAME to see it has bad graphics :story:
