Gamefaqs - An old gaming website that still exists somehow

I've only ever used GameFAQs a few times myself and the last time I posted on there was ages ago when I wanted to know if FFVI was better on the SNES or PS1 because I didn't know if the PS1 version had the same atrocious loading times as Chrono Trigger did on the PS1, and some autistic faggot totally sperged out at me over that and I when I gave him a snarky response the jannies deleted my thread
Yeah they've been in full reetard mode for a while now, no point in using this site anymore.
It's only useful as an archive for guides for old games. I probably wouldn't have been able to get through SMT 2 without the site.
Before the internet it might have been useful for those guides but now any help you need you can get it just from watching walkthrough guides on YouTube.

Honestly what even is the point of Gamefags existing anymore, it's literally just become Resetera light, the only difference is that it doesn't have all of gaming "insiders" posting on it making it even more worthless of a site.
I'm pretty sure GameFAQs has banned actual gaming "insiders" before for not following the rules to the letter.

I know they banned a famous voice actor after his first two posts for not properly censoring or something once. It may have been Troy Baker.

YouTube guides fucking suck. I don't want to have a parse through dozens of hours of video content just to find the one piece of information needed.

I turn them right off the second I hear any sign of 'tism voice. Unfortunately sometimes you need to see something being done in video form because the only guide available was written by a 12 year old who can't write a coherent sentence. If it's a game I've played I can usually stop the video where I need it to be. But that doesn't always work out because some people will play things in a different order or skip something. I've never written a full guide there but I did collaborate on one. But it wasn't a guide for regular gameplay. I'm more interested in those than walkthroughs of the game itself.

A lot of the guides greatly suffer in text format. You can't really help it if it's something like "It's all about timing, start jumping when the spikes are about a quarter of the way done pulling back up". Other bugaboos include mazes ("okay, the maze is simple...L U R R U R L U R R R R D D L U R R D L L L") or dreaded ASCII maps which don't work if not in monospace format.

Its forums are virtually worthless since any wrongthink is bannable, unless you're extremely vague and passive.

Sometimes a written guide is better than video, it just depends on what's available on a game-by-game basis and what you're stuck on, so it's still got some use.

And the funniest thing is that if you had asked any of the regulars, they were under the belief that Gamefaqs had been taken over by conservatives and alt right types.

Totally detached from reality and delusional.

Or they know that's not true, that they have taken over, and just pretend there's a Nazi infestation in order to crack down on dissent even harder. Maybe I'm just giving them too much credit though.

Pirating books is very easy nowadays. If there was ever a printed players guide, it might have been scanned and you can download it as a PDF. Those are always much better than GameFAQs' colossal text documents.

A while ago, I found a post on Reddit of someone ranting about how GameFAQs had turned so sour, and the top comment was some idiot ranting about, well, exactly that. An argument ensued, and you can just feel the autism. Interestingly, though, someone pointed out how their daily poll numbers used to have well over a hundred thousand responses, and now it's down to just a few thousand. Combine that with how I mentioned a while ago, in this thread, about how the average user age is in their mid-30s, and I think that shows how GameFAQs is just populated with extraordinarily autistic guys who've been around forever, but never left.

My favorite lolcow is @OrsonZedd, a retard who would have gone unnoticed by us for a decade had he not thrown a stupid little tard fit over Keffals a couple of years ago. He got a thread that shows just what a disgusting person he is. Funny thing is, even with his ass exposed to the whole world, he doesn't seem to care. He didn't DFE, and he still carries on being a little virtue signaling tard across several forums. I think it's people like him who are the quintessential GameFAQs user. They have such enormous egos and this terribly smug way about them, despite living their whole lives on a forum that makes ResetEra look friendly. Man, I hate these fuckin' faggots.

Anna's Archive only seems to have captured a lower-end version of the "borrowable" books from Archive.org, most of them have pictures that have downgraded to black lines or overall too dark.

Besides, a printed guidebook was only for games that were popular enough to merit such a guide, and they aren't created equal. Another good source for maps, though, is VGMaps which has maps (usually rips) for most games, even the less popular ones.

It seems the admins are making the cesspool-filled board "Current Events" private, and the responses to this are the usual autistic ramblings from accounts made in the early 00s from people who must be in their 30s-40s. Pretty funny to read.

Not sure why they don't just go to reddit or something.

So Current Events is the new LUE? lmfao

Edit: Just went to CE for what feels like the first time in forever. How did this place get even gayer since 2020? Was it the Fandom purchase? I was surprised I had access, I guess maybe because I looked at guides and my account was just auto logged in?

What is even the point of making it private? Are there really people making new accounts just to troll CE in 2024? I figured it was just the handful of forever alone wizards hanging out there bitching about Drumpf and proclaiming their love of faggotry over and over that infested the place back in 2020.

Double Edit: SBAllen fucking quit? LMFAO what the fuck else could this crossdressing freak possibly be able to do after damn near 20 years of running that site?

Something laughable about their statement on "transphobia":

Resources:
There are many wonderful resources out there for those who need accepting and genuine help for issues around sexuality and gender. While the following list is not exhaustive, here are some resources we are happy to recommend

It Gets Better
  • Lists resources in 40+ countries for LGBTQIA+ individuals
Trans Lifeline
  • A 24/7 helpline for transgender people with trans people giving peer-to-peer support.

I got an offline copy of all gamefaqs walkthroughs off archive.org. I have a lot of fondness for the all text walkthroughs of the era where gamefaqs was relevant.

They're text so it doesn't take much space. All SNES walkthroughs uncompressed = 246mb.

I'm pretty sure it's been said before, but it looks like Fandom are doing xeir best to infect the site and transform it into another Resetera

I'm honestly amazed people are still putting up a fight in that shithole.

It felt like Resetera 2 ever since 2016 IMO. It's why I took a huge step back before finally leaving altogether just before the 2020 election. Anything less than sucking tranny and fauci dick was met with moderation and sperging out.

You're not wrong, but as someone who has done both; there is sadly no right answer, and a lot of the autists who have the drive to make guides, don't always have the best manner of planning out how to put together a comprehensive yet easily navigatable video guide. Written guides suffer because autists aren't always the best with their words or putting their deranged thought process into something structured and can be vague. Video guides suffer because autists want to get big on YouTube and have vocal fry, fail to use post production, or try to commentate their humor or something else and offer no real insight. It's a total fucking mess, and unfortunately you have the younger generation who can't use CTRL+F to search a word document, they need the videos.

Sir, this is a videogame website (allegedly).

I will never forget how in the late 2000s someone wrote a choose your own adventure story on Current Events that featured the main character getting abducted by an attractive, yet psychotic Asian girl that he tried to spy on in a changing room. He ends up waking up in a Saw style dungeon of sorts with a tranny trying to give him a blow job, only to escape and for the tranny to proceed to chase him down the street. Nothing dumb and goofy like that would ever get posted on that awful site nowadays, not even immediately prior to Fandom's take over.

The big thing I can never forget is some guy who was hyping up that he was going to kill himself because he was a forever alone or something, and he had this big story about all he cared about was the TV show Lost and like he skipped going to his prom to watch Lost and shit like that. So he hyped up that after the Lost finale he was going to kill himself and I remember users like...kind of egging him on. He ended up claiming that the Lost finale gave him the will to keep living and he didn't kill himself, but it just makes me laugh cause you know the second anyone would do anything like that today the mods and admins would probably be deleting everything and putting up all sorts of statements about suicide and getting help and be spamming the suicide hotline everywhere and shit.
