Gamefaqs - An old gaming website that still exists somehow

Y'know, it's funny, when LUE was first quarantined, the logic was that it would eventually die because luesers' naturally rebellious and offensive spirit would lead to every member getting banned one by one. Twenty years later, it's still around and thoroughly cowed.

I theoretically have an account with LUE access, but I don't remember the password and the email service I signed up under doesn't exist anymore so I can't reset it.

I remember signing up for GameFAQs because I was having a hard time with the whiteboard puzzle in Silent Hill 2. I got involved in the social boards, primarily the conspiracy and paranormal boards (which at the time were obsessed with creating "psy-balls") because that was the zeitgeist at the time and I had got into Majestic, the ARG-as-a-boxed-videogame that was conspiracy themed. That eventually fed into CE, LUE, etc. I got banned repeatedly between 2001 and 2003, and after secLUEsion or whatever they called it, I jumped to LUELinks as my primary internet social space. I eventually got banned from there, jumped to reddit, got banned from there, jumped to Twitter, got banned from there, and here I am.

In a roundabout way, Gamefaqs is why I'm on kiwifarms.

*tree*

I vaguely recall some guy who would end all his posts with *tree*. Were you ever KoSed?
No, at least I don't think so. "*tree*" is a reference to the original spirit of LUE. Luesers would post lueshi asciis at mods all the time, so they banned posting lueshi asciis "depending on context." The mod explained that it wasn't the ascii itself, it was the intent of harassment and disrespect, and it would be the same if people were posting "tree" at mods. Naturally, people started posting just the word "*tree*" every time a mod showed up in a thread, as a clear "fuck you." That was the spirit of the old LUE. That spirit's gone, but I still remember *tree*-posting

From what I've heard through the grapevine, it got mega-turbo-ultra pozzed at the same time as everything else online. I'm glad all my memories are of the anarchic, edgy LUE.
Inconceivably pozzed, and after it shut down the lifeboat site they made for it went even further. As someone else said, literally everything is on the level of Resetera or RPG.net these days. Apparently there was a KF data breach that one of the LL tranny mods got ahold of and went around banning anyone who showed up in the leak.

KF is the only place on the internet where I can be a normal person from 10 years ago.

Wasn't there also the "saLUEt" meme which would get posted whenever someone committed account suicide? I vaguely recall hearing 'tree' would get posted instead of 'saLUEt' in those instances too.

I guess you could call it... LUEnacy!

They don't even try to hide it. This is one of the people running the mod staff for a while. Suddenly a lot makes sense.
"People complaining about wokeness are typically just dogwhistling for some racist / sexist viewpoint."

What is most likely really meant:

"People complaining about wokeness are typically just speaking in code for some wrongthinking / wrongthink viewpoint."

So in other words, if one complains about "the revolution" and demoralizing and reality-denying BS, they're a "wrongthinker" who can be "cancelled" for "the good" of "the community"? Getting really tired of that endless manipulative, attempted demoralizing, wannabe commie, doublespeak BS from SJWs. Current Year really needs to end already.

Sometimes when I am looking for help on a certain video game I am playing, I run into an old forum post from this site on Google. It helps and I get what I need, other times I don't. I would've never guessed that this site became a tranny haven.

In hindsight, of course it did. If you're just a gamer who stays inside and games all day you're ripe to troon. Gaymers at least go get laid, but then they run into the issues of degenerate shit because of risky sex due to drugs and 15 partners per night.

You glorious fuck, you put that perfectly. Thank you.

That is a beautiful way to put it. Exactly how I feel. I wish more places online were like they used to be, but they're gone and everywhere is pozzed and KF is one of the few places that isn't. It's amazing how the tone everywhere completely shifted and how it's only obvious once there's a place like the old internet to compare it to.

Yeah, 2019. The link is floating around somewhere, I did download it. I think it's still on the thread where it was reported.

If I were to go back in time and tell myself "Be happy you can still call people 'gay' on the Internet," I'd never believe myself. Yeah, you know that 10 page screed about Zell being gay, you mocking that guy would probably have you eat a ban. Get the fuck out of here weirdo, no fucking way, in fact, fucking kill yourself faggot.

Fuck man, not only do I feel old now, I'm kinda depressed.

Everyone ITT made it out untrooned, though we're also all the type to have enough willpower to have backed away from GameFAQs when it was getting just too shitty for us. I guess all those retards that visit every day for decades got brainwashed because they'd rather throw away any personal skepticism and follow the crowd than leave their shitty forum.

I only left because I was banned and it wasn't worth the effort of getting around it. That was years ago, now it seems even worse and pretty much not even worth trying to join because it looks suffocating there with all the liberal restrictions.

I do not mean to instigate anything nor insult, just invite some sharing:

Have you, indeed, in addition to leaving because of shittiness, also touched grass? Perhaps, a woman?

Let's not ask for miracles. Grass hates me and women make me sneeze. Or is it the other way around...

But I'm still a much happier human being after leaving.

I didn't leave, as much as I stopped going to the actual message board part, as the moderation became very heavy handed, and the message boards were unironically the best part of the site when you're not reading the guides. The problem being, I wanted to talk to other people about videogames and it became much harder to do so, on top of the userbase becoming more... ... ... I don't have the proper word, but their mindset became consolidated, and I'm not talking about political views. But let's say you had a question about something and you go to the forums; you risk running into one of two answers, the first being CHECK THE FAQ, which isn't entirely a wrong answer, especially if you know it's in one of them. But the other answer would be people discussing everything around the exact answer you're seeking; they most likely know the answer, but what they give is an exercise in self-satisfactory fart-huffing about how smart they are and talking about the question, without giving you an answer. And I enjoy they implemented the Questions part, which is where I mostly go anymore; but you still get the same fucking problem there as you do on the boards. Fart-huffing retards giving a non-answer.

Edit: And I don't know where or when it started, but this is one of my biggest complaints about "the gaming community" as a whole. There's a sense of retarded elitism that exists when there doesn't need to be. Whether it's Elitist Jerks, Icy Veins, or whoever, there are weirdos out there who crunch numbers and determine the optimal path/gear/build/etc. And I'm not here to say they or anyone else is wrong; but the amount of blind deference and inability to experiment or fuck around is damaging.
