Several members of the mainstream gaming media, each of their own accord, have hyperbolically asserted that GamerGate is to blame for the unprecedented protest event that took place in Washington D.C. on January 6th.

Former congressional candidate and Revolution 60 developer Brianna Wu, who has previously blamed GamerGate for everything from mass shootings to the election of President Donald Trump, claimed that the events at the U.S. Capitol unfolded because “there weren’t any criminal consequences for Gamergate.”

“There weren’t any criminal consequences for the alt right. Then there weren’t any consequences for Nazis. Then there weren’t any consequences for sedition,” Wu added.

She then concluded that “America is getting worse because we won’t have consequences.”

Polygon Co-Founder Arthur Gies begged the “mainstream news media people [who] follow me on here” to “apply network resources to observe the lineage between gamergate and today.”

“It’s a straight goddamned line,” he declared.

Unfortunately, both Wu and Gies deleted their respective tweets before proper archives could be made, though not before the above screenshots could be captured.

Similarly to Gies, outspoken GamerGate critic Ashley Lynch wrote that she could “draw a direct line from channer edgelords wanting to destroy a female game designer to a fascist insurrection attempting to violently overthrow a country.”

“Seeing some people say this in private to protect themselves so I’ll say it out loud: there is a direct line from the game industry and media’s failure in addressing gamergate to the right wing terrorism we’re seeing today. Period.” argued God of War (2018) producer Shayna Moon.

DC Comics author Zoe Quinn pushed back against the claims of her peers, taking issue with the fact that some were not “acknowledging that GG was a symptom of the larger systemic bigotry that has always existed, an extension of DV, and the failure of online platform holders to act right.”

“I really don’t appreciate being used like that!!” she added.

She further explained that she believed such a misrepresentation to be “ahistorical and missing the bigger picture AND ignores the folks who stood up about this stuff before GG.”

“It’s super uncool on a personal level to feel like terrorism is another consequence of a profoundly abusive relationship I still have nightmares about,” Quinn continued.

I hope they never stop complaining about Gamergate. I want to be in my 60s and see some article pop up on the mandatory news feed about how elderly award winning game designer, congressional candidate and ghoul advocate Brianna Wu says gamergate was the direct cause of the feces rain we deal with today.

So, it seems the big zeitgeist of this generation, the event that changed the perspective of millions of people and made way to change history as we know it, won't be the murder of a high-profile politician, a war broken over dubious claims, a terrorist attack victimizing thousands or even a school shooting.

Nope, it will be a fucking internet slapfight started over some fat slag literally whoring herself out to hack gaming journos (but I repeat myself). I don't know if I find this funny, pathetic, alleviating, or all at the same time.

Why does anyone listen to these fucking people? They weren't even relevant during fucking gamergate!
Not to mention, in the time since GamerGate, Brianna hasn't even achieve any political position, meanwhile....

dozens of other transgender people have, I wonder... no, I don't actually need to wonder, it's obvious: No one else has been as insufferable as Brianna Wu.

It was foolish to base capitol building security protocols around puzzles from the game 'Myst' as these were easily bypassed by GamerGate veterans. A more effective security deterrent against this troubling seditionist movement, whose threat to western democracy transcends that of Chinese military expansionism and Iranian nuclear ambitions, would have required gamers to navigate a complex social situation, without the crutch of a drop-down dialogue menu.

I hope that these lessons will be learned, and that the 300 basement dwelling trolls who allegedly comprise GamerGate, and who are simultaneously both pathetic virgin incels, and super villains capable of enacting social change on a global scale, can be brought to justice and contained inside the same prison that is used to house Magneto.
