Well that was pretty much what I was getting at, nobody gives a fuck about Gamergate but there are still hundreds of them on YouTube desperately trying to get something else to kick off so they can maintain their internet video careers. In that sense shit's never going to die, it's a lot of their actual jobs now.

So long as the people pushing the ideology that caused it to happen in the first place keep at it, it will never end.
It's easy to forget, especially with the likes of @KillThemCrackasBabies (entirely justified) smacks towards Jeremy and his ilk, but the fucks pushing this ideological horse-shit into basically everything they can view their doing so as a culture war against godless barbarians. In their worldview, you should not, and indeed, must not ever have anything you can do to depart from the holy narrative. Escapism is an enemy in their eyes, and you can see this in any work of fiction they get their claws into regardless of medium. When you pair up the fact that many of them believe ideological conformity is much more importan than writing or productive talent, you begin to understand why any work they descend upon tends to do only three things: Suck, fail, and push propaganda.
Anything that systemically embraces Social Justice and somehow succeeds does so in spite of the ideology - not because of it.
But it actually goes a little more nutty than this. While it often goes ignored because it's secondary to her being a money-grubbing asshole, Anita Sarkeesian is, in fact, a true believer in the ideology she pushes. The entire viewpoint you see her shriek about - that if you somehow don't think that a piece of media you observe somehow effects you, this in fact means it effects you more through a process she never actually gets around to elaborating upon - comes from this ideological origin-point, and, of course, Bell Hooks, the person Sarkeesian models herself after, was a fucking Marxist and hated second-wave feminists because they did not bring about glorious Socialist revolution. A humorous aspect to this that you will hear mentioned approximately never in the mainstream is that Sarkeesian, much like Hooks, does not believe her work is about choice - that if you somehow can be not-offended, or more commonly, are a woman or dark-skinned person who somehow finds success despite her shrieks about the existence of a white supremacist capitalist patriarchy, this means you have simply found a way to make the system work for you, not that her ideology is wrong.
If you want to know why Sarkeesian is at Gencon, however, let me break it down for you nice and quick: She was chosen by the cadre of brainlets currently signed on for Gencon as speakers, because they absolutely agree with her, and in many cases, have had previous work with her:
Tanya Depass is a Rat King-associated, Jake Alley-connected, BLM-espousing psychopath who seriously deserves a thread on this website and has more than once gone on hysterical shrieking rants about how Twitter is a vital lifeline for queer people of color and how the greatest barrier to tabletop gaming is white people. She has been an affiliate of Katherine Cross(AKA Feminist Frequency's secretary) since at least 2013.
She's still friends with Quinn years later, to boot.
Nolan T. Jones is the creator of Roll20, a damned fine website used for virtual tabletop services for strategy gaming and RPG systems. Despite being a nerd he has absolutely drank the kool-aid and has gone on multiple rants about how his platform "would not tolerate" any work that caters only to any group he personally dislikes, and has launched numerous screaming twitter-rants in which he virtue signals as hard as humanly possible. The users of Roll20 just stay quiet and hope the nutjob shuts up and goes away, as he screams about Pmurt and how that evil Gamergate will never get a foothold in traditional gaming as long as he stands. He's done panels alongside Katherine Cross in the past.
Nicole Lindroos is the head of Green Ronin press, a former 3.0/3.5 D&D book creator that now makes stuff for Pathfinder. In addition to pushing hard for Social Justice and policies later espoused by Jake Alley and friends, she's also a long-time buddy of Katherine Cross. She's rather infamous for an incident in which one of her IRL friends got accused of sexual harassment - Lindroos responded by attacking his alleged victims, and, when she recieved blastback, declared herself the true victim of the entire affair and deleted her social media accounts entirely.
So multiple people here, who all are connected to Katherine Cross in some fashion or another, and at least one who was directly backing CON for the last few years. Strange that. It's almost like Anita knew she would have zero trouble getting on a panel and knew she'd have help to screen for anyone who could possibly criticize her or something.

GG dropped the ball hard not being to transition into a kind of H3H3 style "all purpose" kind of commentary thing. I say that sort of side-stepping the fact that I can't really think of any of them "normal" enough to have done it to begin with (maybe Shoe, and even she has her own plethora of weird problems...) but having someone who could have come across as not a mongoloid would have helped a lot in the long run. Obviously, not all of them could have pulled that off, but that none of them could either? Huge missed opportunity, and one I think I blame on the Sargon/Matt approach of trying to "legitimize" themselves as political and social commentators.
Like with Star Wars, all they know to do is all just make the same video over and over again, so then the anti side makes their one video over and over again, repeat with a different topic for years on end. Not being able to break away from the gimmick, or at least hiding the powerlevel, kneecapped them in the long run. I think just assuming guys like PewDiePie and RLM and Ethan/Hila would kind of compensate and be "their guys" by proxy was enough, but it doesn't look like it's having the desired effect.

Seriously, though, there are way fewer fa/tg/uys than vidya gamers, but they're exponentially more fanatical and insane and they aren't going to put up with this bullshit. Since they're often middle aged and have jobs, though, outside of the Rat King loons, they might not have as much time for dumb shit as the goobergrapers did.

Isn’t Katherine Cross the one that sent around an “open letter” to all the Videogame media Editors a year before Gamergate outlining how to perform the “Gamers are dead” move? She literally planned out and shared her plans on staging Gamergate a year before anyone ever heard of Zoe Quinn. Kinda makes you go hmmmm? Doesn’t it?

There's good news and bad news here. Fa/tg/uys are fanatical compared to GG supporters, and have zero patience for Social Justice - with good reason. Their hobby endured multiple people running it facefirst into the ground with much more force than any Social Justice Warrior can muster, so there isn't a fuck of a lot they can do to menace your average fa/tg/uy out of things. What are they going to do, host more RPGA events that no one gives a shit about? Put up more fluff that the fanbase will continue to fucking ignore outright? The hobby endured 4th edition, Lorraine Williams, and the collapse of TSR.
It will survive this, even if it must go dormant once more to make it happen.
....Unless 40K is threatened directly. Then they will sing the song that ends the earth.
The thing is, your average fa/tg/uy does not give a single solitary fuck about politics or diversity. They want fun games, and that's just about it. Unfortunately, as anyone who's danced this dance knows, the lunatics trying to force the issue don't care about what anyone wants. Trying to push them is only going to cause them to dig in their heels, so we're likely to see more of the usual nonsense soon enough.
She did. She also was the liasion between CON and Feminist Frequency while working as its secretary, something she repeatedly dismissed as conspiratorial nonsense when called out on, even as it became increasingly-clear over the months to follow that they were working together in everything but name.

Four years ago(!) he wrote this snark filled response to an article posted at Tor.com about GenCon:

Tanya Depass is a major scumbag scammer. I’ve posted about her before, 45 year old queer (?) black woman who runs a 501(c)(3) charity scam she started after GG. She’s uses funds from the charity to pay for personal expenses like utilities and travel to cons. She’s basically a very unsuccessful black version of Anita. All she does is bitch about how cons are work and she needs more Patreon bucks.
She’s also a wannabe twitch streamer and got people to pay her close to $2k for a 4K HDR tv and ps4 pro. She does get histrionic about the dumbest race shit on twitter but most of it are hot takes shamelessly stolen from others. She’s never had an original thought, I don’t think she’s worth her own thread imo. She is good for a chuckle from time to time.

I floated that theory but not sure if I was the only one. Basically that con in September was the last time the three of them were together (Jake, Miguel, and Tanya) and talking to each other. Jake’s made some passive aggresive tweets in Tanya’s direction since the con around her birthday. I think it was “I haven’t heard from you lately”or “not sure if we’re still chatting” but def. something to that effect to which Tanya never replied. Before the con they had a fairly chatty relationship and now it’s dried up. Jake also dropped his Zoe post so I think that maybe was the catalyst that caused Tanya to distance herself from the gnome.

They also were helping her write the 'Crash Override' book, and the delay of that has been said to have been because it had to be rewritten without their contributions. They also took part in helping spread Randi Harper's anti-GG blocklist, and hilariously most of them ended up on it in the following years.
They did it all for free.
Chelsea manipulated them by privately telling each one how much she loved them and cared about them, and when CON was still around she kept promising them she was going to use some of the massive amount of unwarranted money she was getting to pay them salaries, provide housing, health care, and therapy. No one besides Chelsea saw a single cent, and by early 2016 when she, to quote Jake, "pulled the plug" on CON, she had severed ties with the vast majority of the insiders and kicked them out of the inner circle and ceased talking to them.
When Jake Alley was doxed after Skype logs from the secret chat group were leaked later in 2016, he tried to use it as an opportunity to get Chelsea to talk to him and contacted CON (which was defunct by that point), he claimed he was going to kill himself to "protect [his] family" (even though to this day he claims he wasn't doxed and he isn't Jake Alley, despite clearly being Jake Alley), Chelsea allegedly told him she wasn't getting involved. Jake continued to stalk and obsess over her for over a year after she cut contact and has said that he has tried to kill himself because of her.
When the book was finally about to come out in late 2017, lots of the former CON members were angry and one leaked an early draft copy while others began to complain about how she had broken all the promises she made to them and 'threw them under the bus.' Shortly after that, Chelsea retweeted Randi's tweet about playing Overwatch with Chelsea.
