Reminder, Nvidia has ties to the Chink government AND is a publicly traded company, so not only will it have a massive jeet-festation on the CPU/GPU space, it will gladly collect data and willingly lend it to the Jew-Asians if it means more power.

Worst of all, they'll dictate their newest trends AND kill off their competitors. DLSS4 not enough? Try out our new MFG+ for better (fake) frames (with worse input lag) of which every goddamn game company will adopt (even Valve with CS2 and Mihoyo with HSR are using this godforsaken waste of tech). All while they silently demolish AMD and make the entire tech industry one big giant ball of AI and planned obselescence.

I fucking hate the Antichrist.

steve doesn't like nvidia investing into intel. Which I agree with him and the comments. its suspect.

Wait, are Steve's numbers right on layoffs? I thought Intel axed over 80k this year .. or was trueup misreporting? .. or did I miss where Steve mentioned the other layoffs?
Intel has laid off nearly 90,000 people this year!

Over in the LTT thread, they're talking about Alex/ZipTieTuning's recent video about being fired from LTT. They blame a lot of LTT's downfall on Gamers Nexus:

PreserveTube Archive

In short, they were fired for violating their non-competes when they launched the Zip Tie Tuning channel. This was after LMG put the kibosh on a car focused channel, in part due to a downturn after the Gamers Nexus videos. To quote: "The amount of damage his videos did to the channel cannot be overstated. With lost sponsors, terrible community sentiment, and some really good talent leaving the company because they did not sign up for death threats." He then goes on to be somewhat critical of Steve's videos but readily admits that LMG had "an incredible number of issues."

"Thanks Steve"

GN is why LTT is tanking.

X to doubt.

Got recommended a jake video and of course hes still shilling ubiquiti shit.

I like their car videos, but there was no reason to exhaust LTT here and throw GN under the bus from a reality standpoint. It's clearly a tactical/marketing move to draw from LTTs audience, since they probably didn't have a lot of crossover with GN. Otherwise, why say anything at all?

I dunno. I have generally liked Zip Tie Tuning so far, but I get the feeling it's got a good chance of going in the slop direction. Alex's whole rant about wanting to enjoy work is understandable, but it's the type of attitude that doesn't get real things built at the end of the day.

FTFY, redditors are retarded, worse than a AIChatbot according to a study.
i don't think alex and andy will disclose why they got booted but it seems they don't want to burn bridges.

honestly LTT's downfall is because he went corpo dicksucking since he doesn't want to miss deals/sponsorships.

Steve starts dabbling with desktop Linux (it's actually more about building the machines)
I'm really sick and tiring of hearing all this Windows fear mongering as if now suddenly the scales will shift and Linux will dominate the market, and it's especially irritating to see Steve leaning more and more into the sensational side of things. The video is mostly about refurbishing e-waste, awesome. The title and thumbnail give me those "Linux master race" circlejerk vibes that I'm sick of hearing all the time. If W10 going EOL will magically make Linux desktop userbase jump to 10% will be miraculous, but anyone who actually knows anything about anything knows that will never happen and the moment people get truly tired of this circlejerk, when the clicks dry out, everyone will shut up and go back to using 11 as if nothing has happened.

When Wendell was explaining Linux to Steve he was barely grasping the intricates of it while constantly wailing for total Microsoft death or whatever the fuck. You know that Steve will run into the same old Linux wall the moment he actually wants to switch instead of spinning the same old fear mongering media mill that every other publication does because hating on Windows = easy clicks, informational and objective value be damned. I don't know if it's his ego or he's just getting way too hot headed but holy shit this is annoying to see.

Are they turning into an LTT clone?

Are they turning into an LTT clone?
Far from it, but Steve does seem like he's leaning more into the reactionary attention grabbing side of things even if the videos themselves are okay. Like with the whole GPU black market documentary, it's been overhyped and the documentary itself was okay but nothing like what it was propped up as. Here it's the same old "Windows bad Linux good" spiel that was sung every major Windows release being used as the drive to watch a video about e-waste refurbishing. I don't like it, it's disingenuous and Steve should know better.

Yea it's clickbaity and shit but man I don't think you can say this anymore. Before it was just personal preference and autistic elietism but windows has been getting shittier and shitter every single release for over a decade now. Considering the general bloat and the actual fucking spyware in win11 there's a genuine case to be made that simply oap friendly versions of linux are just better than windows now. You kinda have to be hyperbolic simply because most retards don't even know linux is a thing, they won't even know it exists let alone consider using it unless you say this thing is objectively a much better super mega windows, if you just say 'well yea it's a good alternative if you want' they won't listen. You're not dealing with the people on here, you're dealing with people that think intel cpus are better than amd because intel ones have a larger number printed on them. Though this is maybe a fucking retarded video to argue that on considering I think he says the word linux maybe once in the entire thing and that's it.

Also if you hate clickbait titles there's an extension called dearrow that has a community driven renaming database to more accurately title videos.

It sounds like there was plenty of reasons for it, it's not so much that he's throwing GN under the bus but straight up calling him wrong and reckless (which he absolutely is)

The thing that annoyed me in that video was Wendell didn't do a good job of explaining what immutable Linux distros were. The most basic explanation: You run apt update and it updates all your packages to their current version for BlaCuntDo Version 2.95. An immutable system updates your system to October 1st 2025 r1. You can roll it back to September 22nd 2025 r4. You don't update individual packages. You update the entire system to a snapshot. It's literally how the base Android system works on phones.

I know this particular video is someone else's show, but fucking Canonical/Ubuntu. They just slap their shit on PCs for the poor and get their name recognition. But it's truly a shit distribution, from a shit company who hired a known sexual predator, who was only found out after he vandalized the XLibre wiki. It's the same deal with Steve donating money to Internet Archive. Like ... they literally deleted a TON of stuff during that "hack" and they're probably compromised. The Archive is also run by fucking idealistic idiots who wanted to invent new copyright law and failed fantastically. I'm torn because I don't want to see it go away, but it's run by morons, it's been compromised and I can't trust it. I would never buy a product from GN store that supported the Archive in any way.

the whole GPU black market documentary, it's been overhyped and the documentary itself was okay but nothing like what it was propped up as.
Yea, I agree. It was a long snooze-fest. It really should have been broken down and released as 3 videos over the course of two weeks. There were no real big reveals; just one small time smugger at the end and a company they met with where they couldn't photo with a "trust-me-bro" exposition on top of stock footage of nVidia servers. The 4090 RAM modification was the really only interesting part. The bigger story was honestly Bloomberg getting it taken down.

I had to take a job where I'm on Windows. It's the first shop where I haven't been on Linux in almost 15 years! Dear god it's gotten so bad. Visual Studio 2022 is somehow both exactly the same and 100x worse than Visual Studio 6! Windows 11, even the corporate version with most of the junk removed via group policies, is so damn slow. WSL2 is not that great. Everything feels terrible and trying to solve the most basic issues, which would have taken be 10 minutes in the Linux world, can easily be an hour or more of searching.

I've heard of more companies these days allowing developers to use Linux over Win/Mac. I don't think we'll see a massive shift like with data centers moving to AMD because Intel fucked up so bad with the 13th/14th gen chips, but I do think Microsoft is going to get a few more chips taken out of its developer share in the corporate environment.

I don't think you can say this anymore
Actually, I think I can, because the point here isn't which OS is better (the answer is neither, if you believe otherwise kindly never talk about computers ever again if you can't fathom the idea that an OS is a tool and in different cases a different tool fares better), it's about how the amount of Linux cultists banging the war drums of Linux finally taking over Windows has amplified so much since the release of Windows 11 (which was back in 2021 mind you), and yet when I look at the OS market share all that I see is that Linux is still unable to break the 10% barrier all these years later. Retarded comparison, but imagine that everyone is shouting at you how this person over there is a real woman, and they do it for years. And for years you were able to memorize all the telltale marks of a man. The broad shoulders, the sharp jawline, the 5 o' clock shadow and so on. You know that's a man, you see the reality with your own eyes, yet everyone keeps insisting that that's a woman.

That's basically how I feel with how much people circlejerk Linux right now. They make it seem like Windows 11 being shit and Win10 reaching EOL suddenly makes it so that everyone will jump to Linux because there's literally no other way to go. Except I see the reality. Windows 11 isn't some ungodly disaster that will make it so that Linux will dominate the market, it's level of annoyance before and after debloating is on par with 10. The worst part is the scuffed UI, but that's not a complete deal breaker and it's still familiar enough. Plenty of machines will get that upgrade to 11 and people will be fine with it. All those machines that run 10 will keep running 10, it won't suddenly break and people won't care about it being EOL. And I really do feel like people who have the most to say about how bad Windows is compared to Linux are people who never used Windows in decades, which really should make their arguments worthless if Windows users who haven't tried Linux in decades are wrong and shouldn't talk shit about Linux if they haven't tried it in it's current state. Fair is fair.

A few years ago I helped out my neighbor since his PC wouldn't boot up, and it was running XP, and it might be still running it to this day if it's still there. All of this fear mongering that you'll have no other choice but to switch to Linux, all of these blatant lies at this point that this is the breaking point of Linux, all of it works in this info bubble of techies that can only look at tech from their own tech savvy perspective. The moment you look at the bigger picture you realize they're all full of shit and you get sick and tired of the same yapping 24/7. No one cares if their OS is up to date or not. No one debloats their computers so whether they're using 10 or 11 it's the same level of annoying to them. They use whatever came preinstalled, so Windows. They have no idea you can reinstall Windows yourself, let alone installing something else. The handful of switches to Linux that you'll see in these circles is other nerds installing Mint on their parents' and grandparents' computers, which will barely put a dent in the worldwide market share.

As for DeArrow, it still shows the original clickbaity title. I do have it installed and I think I have the "auto full version" due to my SponsorBlock ID having a bunch of segments uploaded.

EDIT: For posterity in case the smug caveman fuck changes it at a later date:

The amount of disingenuous clickbait on display here is unreal. Steve knows what he's doing because every single tech media outlet out of the sun gets billions of clicks on any article that shits on Windows. The comment section is full of yes men that'll gladly defend this because "Windows bad, Linux good" and anyone who goes against the grain must be personally defending Microsoft. Even though most of the video is about hardware recycling which is much more interesting but not as click worthy as another "Windows bad Linux good" video. Again, most of the video is about hardware recycling with maybe 1/3rd if not less of the video being actually dedicated to Linux installation.

This is clickbait through and through, which is really putting a strain on the whole "reputable journalist" image of Steve when he's pulling tactics straight out of the tabloids. Thanks Steve!

How was GN reckless? LTT had a ton of just wrong information. GN only went after LTT in that one video and it seemed like they had held off for a while.

It sorta is click-baity for his general audience (I agree most gamers aren't going to be jumping to Linux over Win10 EOL), but in this specific context, they're talking about re-imaging older PCs for people who don't need something high end. Most people literally just need a web browser for everything. For this audience, a recycled PC with Ubuntu is no different than a Chromebook.

@Slav Power Got it in PTube with the current thumbnail here, but I doubt it will change: https://preservetube.com/watch?v=NHLTOdsqDRg

There's no reason not to use Linux if the computer is going to act like a Chromebook/Chromebox most of the time. That's the benefit of spending the majority of your time in a web browser. Branching out from that baseline to use some real applications or play games is easier than ever.

The Skylake/14nm+++++++++ era of hardware is overpowered for most folx, as long as it's a quad-core. The dual-cores are probably fine for some stuff but I haven't touched one in a long time. Skylake 6th gen and Kaby Lake 7th gen (LGA 1151) are officially unsupported by Windows 11, so I guess those are going to be dumped right now more than newer gens. AMD isn't really a part of the conversation due to their lower market volume, lack of an iGPU on older desktop CPUs, and Bulldozer-era APUs having slower performance. For example, I think the A12-9800 is the fastest Excavator+ APU that AMD ever made, but the CPU is slower than an Intel Core i5-6500T using half the power.

You might get better power efficiency from newer hardware, but the operating costs of 35/65W TDP CPUs and maybe a 50-75W dGPU aren't significant.
