🥝 Community Games by Farmers, for Farmers - Make games. Play games too- maybe that’s the best you can do.

Thank you so much for organizing this @Orphaned Punk , it was a lot of fun to participate and to play through the entries others made. They are all great fun!
@Otis Mallebrok My game did this too, fixed it by setting audio/general/default_playback_type.web to stream.
Also, upon replaying my game I realized I wrote that you can use wasd or arrows to control jack, but only implemented the arrows lol, oh well.

This is amazing and inspiring. I hope for more games in the future

At one point it was very close to becoming a thing.

Great job to everyone who submitted. I'm glad people didn't reveal too much during development, made it much more interesting trying each game and guessing what they'd be about.

I've prepared some feedback on each game if anyone wants it, spoilered below.
  • Assault on House Catboy - really fun idea, but bloody hard. I don't know if Gauntlet or Hotline Miami was the primary inspiration but I could only manage to kill a couple enemies before I got wiped every time.
  • Farmer Moon Bumper Cross - super cute concept, and a take on the match-3 type game I haven't seen before with the items not being locked to a grid. I did have some issues creating chains though, where I couldn't connect 2 items even though they were clearly touching.
  • Fumo Slime Cave Adventure - extremely impressive as the only fully 3D entry, but it wouldn't run on my browser so I'll need to download the executable to properly try it.
  • Furry Porn - I almost voted for this just because the readme was so funny.
  • Goldstriker's Challenge - I'm not sure if it was browser issues again, but I was getting quite a lot of input delay (also is the music supposed to sound like that?). The concept is great though and Jack's face changing depending on what you eat made me laugh.
  • Hangbag! - Well executed concept and great sprites, but it took me a while to get it to start because I couldn't find anywhere telling me X was the action button.
  • Kiwi Farms Defense Force - Also slowed my browser to a crawl but a really good idea that appears very well executed (although again punishingly difficult).
  • KiwiQuest - N/A I'm not glazing my own game.
  • Need 4 Sneed - One of the standouts for me, a very creative adaptation of the infinite runner concept with tonnes of great art and references. Only downside I found was it's hard to avoid hazards on the ground if you jump too high.
  • Poo Fighters - Another great concept well executed, would have preferred being able to jump with W/Up though.
  • Slap the Sonichu - I can't emphasise how happy I was when this turned out to be exactly what I thought it was going to be. Could only be improved by adding more cows to slap.

I tried out some of the games, not all of them worked in the browser, so I'll try the downloadable builds later, when I have time. Same goes for the games I haven't played.

  • The design of fruits was pretty funny, I could recognize most of the cows.
  • The gameplay is solid, but there's an issue with detecting when fruits overlap: you can see that their sprites are colliding, but the game still refuses to connect them, and then a new drop occurs and due to motion the line is destroyed, which makes for a pretty frustrating experience.
  • High score: 15150
  • Tried out the web build, but it's suboptimal: takes forever to load, lags when you first attack and the game crashed when I went West in the dungeon.
  • Gonna try out the downloaded version later.
  • Not sure how this relates to KiwiFarms.
  • Looks very nice overall, both the photos and sprite cutouts as well as the hand-drawn background in the shooting minigame.
  • Scalfani minigame has unintuitive controls and ends quite quickly due to you making mistakes. I wish there was an ability to restart it.
  • The shooting minigame is good, but the reloading takes forever, which is a bit annoying.
  • Tried out the web build.
  • Couldn't figure out which key corresponds to "start". Tried to setup the controls, but also couldn't figure out how.
  • Gonna download the game later.
  • Most fun game so far probably.
  • But it's kinda difficult as enemies approach the base quickly and take several shots to kill.
  • The ICE walls orbit too far from the center and get destroyed pretty fast.
  • Only got 26000 points.

Would it be possible to include mods by farmers for already existing games if they're published? Many of the users in the TNO and Paradox threads are working on or have published mods for Paradox map-painters (@GoodWinSon's is the most complete by far), and I'm pretty confident you could find similar stuff in other games threads.

I’ve accidentally missed the TNO mods and CWC Adult Adventure Game because I’m a newbie.
If any other things have slipped by me, I’d love for others to inform me so that newbies like me can easily find these things that exist in relative obscurity by just having it there… hopefully solving discoverability and cross pollinating threads via drama tid-bits.
I’ll get on that map painting when I can

It's not a game by itself, nor is it wholly my work but if it interests you here's the link to the git.

In any case, keep up the good work! Maybe one day KF will produce a full size video game.

Try making a simple mod for Minetest (aka Luanti). That's what broke the creative block around game making for me. Add a thing that generates a custom structure, or a custom mob, or even just a custom item. Once you get over the barrier of "can I really do this?" game dev becomes much, much easier.
fellow based luanti (formerly test's) enjoyer
i think somebody here should try making a whole game in luanti. it is a heavily block-game-oriented game engine after all, not simply a block game. you can hack the living fuck out of luanti until it becomes something completely different like this fake desktop demo
also its weirdness and hardcoded jank could maybe be the limitations that lead to somebody making some real genius shit

edit: wait wtf the package seems removed (i think the guy who made it dfe'd for no reason, i don't know why)
there is also this fucking luanti top-down shooter (idk exactly how exactly jank it is because i haven't played it) (also haven't "played" the aforementioned fake desktop or its doom clone)

Spoiler: Fumo Slime Cave Adventure
  • Not sure how this relates to KiwiFarms.
I spent most of my time working on the game mechanics and level content and maybe 5 seconds thinking about the theming. The main character is a Fumo bc I found a Fumo model on OpenGameArt that didn't look too bad, and the enemies are slimes bc I saw a video by James Lambert (the Portal 64 guy) about how he did procedural animation for slimes in his N64 game.
My interpretation of the game jam theme was "Do whatever you want" so I really just didn't think about it.
