It's not just about trannies though but general "diversity", the latest Call of Duty has you playing as a black guy, a woman etc, back in the day WW2 games always had you just playing a gruff white guy since the that was the vast majority of people who participated in the war on the Allies side.

Not that playing as a black solider would be historically inaccurate, but it's also tied in with some plot about Nazis creating sleeper cells in the US, there's your propaganda element.

They are just like they were back when Spike TV was a thing, something nobody ever takes seriously and if you do take them seriously, you're retarded.

I don't remember Spike TV having segments telling people that the Iraq war is wrong and to not vote for Dubya.

I think it was the G4 awards show, but I remember the rapper Jadakiss rapped "why did Bush knock down the towers?" which was actually decried by gaming journalists as an inappropriate display of politics, imagine that, if today's zeitgeist existed back then they'd stop the whole show cold to have some video segment where a drag queen tells us about how jet fuel can't melt steel beams.

I think if 2022 will teach us something, the predictions regarding online game journalism being used as a tool for influencers and e-celebs will make real journalists lose jobs, or the independent, investigative journalists not want to work for the big companies that used to have Kotaku and Gamespot on their payroll.

The point I’m making is that we do need an Edward Snowden/Julian Assange like reporter to make a game journalism crash happen on the same level as a possible video game crash.

Though, for that to happen, it probably won’t exist in our lifetimes. It may exist when sites like this one in question will unfortunately no longer exist.

game journos were always marketing whores for money, that hasn't really changed all that much since the 90s, they're just more blatant and incompetent about it. least back then you could still get some worthwhile information about the quality of the game, not just reformatted PR blurbs or "politics of the phillipines" bullshit.

The Ziff Davis magazines were pretty good, I knew I had picked a winner when EGM featured State of Emergency on the cover... and then gave it bad reviews in the same issue.

So at least with some outlets you were getting honest opinions that weren't simply bought, however even at the best of times it didn't change the fact that critics could sometimes have shit taste or be influenced by hype same as anyone else, a big issue back then was critics thinking everything had to be like Halo and anything that tried to do something different was slammed for it, I also remember Halo 2 being treated as the best thing sliced bread even though I remember thinking it wasn't that great even when it was new.

Mechanics are going to start being fucked with here and there after all the retarded journalists basically making it sound like if you like a gaming having challenge you're a nazi. So, expect games that had no difficulty options to get an easy mode or gay "accessibility" options that make it easy to win, like The Last of Us Part 2. Even then, coping that "it's only the writers. It's only the artists. It's only the producers" or whatever is just sad. The money from sells still goes to those freaks. The cancer spreads everywhere, sooner or later. Got some programmer or designer that stands his ground? He'll be replaced sooner or later.

Or when OPM gave Gary Steinman, the resident JRPG nerd, the task of reviewing Jak II and he gave it a meh review because he found it too hard and it was clear that he simply sucked at action games.

I mean Jak II was pretty challenging at times, but not to the degree that it warranted knocking off points.

I think of stuff like PSM's annual "swimsuit" issue where'd they have comic book artists draw game babes in swimwear, just good, clean fun that wouldn't be allowed today.

EGM especially had a really great vibe to it, you knew those guys were on your side, not viewing you with contempt, you knew they were genuine in their love of video games and you knew that even when you disagreed with them, they were still bros who you'd probably enjoy hanging out with, not pure, concentrated douche chills like a modern Kotaku journalist.
