Game journos are seething about another anti-DEI thing. Two articles for your reading pleasure:

You know that TheGamer makes clickbait articles when Senior Reporter and soyboy beta cuck Sam Woods is simping for Antifa ally Erika Ishii and Ghost of Yotei, and ranting how stunning & brave she is and how she's "keeps winning".

Lol, sales so stellar he didn't list a number or source for it.

Japan's thoughts on DEI pretty much mirror ours but journos like to portray it as much more accepting for their benefit. The JP article is mostly asking about her favorite games, TTRPG and Yotei, and admits itself she just happened to be in Japan. Literal nothing for a nobody who hasn't been talked about since she cosplayed Ursula at TGA.

Sho diverse, such honoraburu.

Some of the JP article comments:

God she's ugly.
Her personality isn't much better. She showed up at Dorito Pope's show dressed like the Bride of Frankenstein, and obnoxiously shovelling popcorn in her mouth the whole time like she thought she had the awards all locked up. All the usual soyboys and fat rainbow hairs were screaming YO GO GURL! - the very same ones who would have had an aneurysm if a straight white man had behaved the exact same way.

Bitch, you did voice acting for some game that is disappearing from the public consciousness like a fart in a windstorm. You are not special, and any work she gets from here on is pity cameos from studios run by soyest boys and shrillest Hot Topic fat chicks.

God she's ugly.
Her personality isn't much better.
My first exposure to Erika Ishii was LA By Night, a Vampire: The Masquerade TTRPG "actual play" show where she was one of the characters. Her character was easily the worst of the cast, yet for some reason she was the main character of the (very obviously scripted) show. My distaste for her quickly outweighed any interest I had in the other 3 players and dropped it.

Yotei is the only other thing I've ever known that she was involved in, and in that she was just okay. Guess she's gotta keep pushing the queer angle, because without it she's just another "literally who?"

Games Journalism has historically been a gigantic gatekeeper in titles getting exposure, as opposed to helping any of them. Journalists would very often not play many games and would play them incorrectly and not understand them on a basic level (insert the Bird vs Journalist playing Cuphead or a 'Dark Souls needs an Easy Mode' article).
They are still doing this. Crimson Desert is the most recent example.

Giving Crimson Desert a bad review based in part due to issues with review copies and save games pre-release. Complaining about the difficulty of bosses while also admitting they didn't bother gearing up.

Meanwhile, Marathon gets a two week grace period for patches and content before being scored.

The pre-release negative reviews worked enough to drop the stock price.

Alanah Pearce is starting a movie production company called Charred Pictures by begging conteent creators for funding. I dropped the article here.

God help anyone who enjoyed horror indie games, because this grifter is writing scripts.
She’s going to discover that a nice face and rack won’t get her very far outside her current sphere.

KotakuInAction and Twitter's Pirat_nation are such morons that they gave Kotaku a W.

The W being the article kotaku put out a few days ago: Some People Are So Desperate To Hate Marathon They’ve Embraced A Fake Conspiracy About Paid Reddit Posts

For those that don't even want to read the Kotaku article (and who could blame you), here's the rundown:

It started here, on r/KotakuInAction: https://www.reddit.com/r/KotakuInAc...onfirmed_there_really_is_reddit_task_content/
CONFIRMED: There really is 'Reddit task' content farm for Marathon. Here's some posts from their Discord. It's $3 per comment/reply and $5 per main post (OP)
The problem? The screenshot in the original thread poorly censored what's really going on.

You can see on the top right, "cle" just outside the black rectangle. Turns out that the actual server this is on is called Reddit Circle. Not Marathon.

And yes, Kotaku made sure to link to the KotakuInAction and GGdiscussion threads where people stupidly fell for this.

Btw, Pirat_nation quietly deleted the post spreading this. This is the original link. I have no idea why people still trust that account.

Game journalism has always sucked even back then. It’s impossible to take these fools seriously.
Even back in the hallowed '90s and EGM they had issues. There was just a recent documentary where the reviewers admitted they only played a game for like two hours before writing a review, and one guy shit all over Game Boy games his entire run because he didn't like the system's screen.. There was also proto-woke shit in the letters section with people complaining about how video game characters were dressed.

They were right about Crimson Desert though. Any game in 2026 that makes you control your character during a glorified cutscene should get an automatic 0/10.

Wait what
The most obvious was some gay guy writing in and saying if he becomes a game developer he'll dress the women tastefully and put all the men in thongs and have their penises bouncing around out of revenge for games objectifying women - and this was back during the Playstation/Saturn days when women looked like they were coded by Picasso and had triangle parts. So basically he was a future modern game dev.

The responses to these were usually variations of "You're right but we have to wait for the world to change" and other gay proto-woke platitudes. Senator Lieberman - the DEMOCRAT* - who was leading a campaign against video games was covered so much in EGM that one letter writer said they were going to vote Republican in response, which prompted a hysterical reply from the editor telling him video games didn't matter and to vote Dem anyway.

Electron GAYming Monthly amirite.

*Democrats have historically been the ones who pushed to ban entertainment they considered offensive, famously with Al Gore's wife in the '80s and then the Dems in the '90s. For some reason zoomers on this site like to rewrite history and claim it was conservative Republicans/Christians trying to ban games.
