would've been much more hilarious when the usa sends it's troon athletes shitting up a "fair" competition and either china getting pissed (china numba won!) or libtards can't say anything when china shuts that bs down and they have to take it to not offend their corporate overlods.
Or, more likely, China just gets more brazen about the number of men they have competing in womens' sports themselves, and turn the wokeness back on the US. We already know numerous countries like to cheat at the Olympics when they can - troonism is opening the door for the system to be abused way more than just that one weightlifter so far.

Should have done more to incorporate it together, to be honest, but his latest stories came from when he was there in the 90's. His opinion never really changed about how weird it was even then.
I was in Japan a couple of years ago and there is still plenty of weirdness, though maybe not to the level of what you read about on the internet. Still, its refreshingly different. I travelled a lot around Europe and almost every big city you go to now its the same shit. Littered with McDonalds and burger king, everything is the same, people dress the same, talk about the same things. Don't know what it is, maybe its mostly the influence of large corporations and western (American) media homogenising everything but its very depressing.

Well that's good to know that Japan is still being Japan. Hopefully I can visit before it changes too much.

And yeah, Europe was disappointing. It shows how much they're becoming like us, even the games and games journalism they spout is the same shit we put out. Which is why I believe cities are a poison that kills anything unique about a nation, all of these devs are positioned mostly in cities these days and it just shows that they keep producing the same schlock we do. I dunno, maybe my mind is muddled, but I noticed more in my youth when a game was made from somewhere else. It has little differences that our nation wouldn't have as a perspective and that was neat to me. Now, though, it's could be made in New York, Montreal or Paris and it'd feel like the same shit. The journalism is the same way, but that might be more Twitter's doing... who knows.

that's mostly for AAA shite. it's made by the same people with the same correct opinions focus tested and designed by committee, which means you'll get "video game product #5839" (don't get me wrong they were always products, but there's a difference in attitude). same way game journos are hired on what they say on social media, not competence or experience.

AAA stuff probably could have it's budget cut in many areas because they do things like have licensed music and celebrity VAs which needlessly drive up the cost of development. They could in turn have that money be reallocated into actual gameplay development and get more experimental. But at this point most AAA titles are more focused on always online multiplayer stuff with microtransactions and very few single player games.

Hold up, now that most of the major personalities have left, this is a guy that's put on Giant Bomb? Along with that jerk Danny O'Dwyer? And they're specifically doing an LP show for Souls games while having that absurd view of them?! Well, guess GB hasn't gotten any better.

Why do (((journos))) hate bideo bames so much, it reminds me of Phil-esque streamers where they have streamed so much they despise it yet, can't stop because of the money so they spiral into a state of depression and self-loathing

>fuck all the other aspects of product I will only show you the part I can be fucked doing and I am also shit at video games despite it being my actual jerb

>your also a shitlord if you imply I need to play anything more challenging than easy babby mode also gaymurs are shit for making fun of me playing babby mode fuck the audience I write for

As per usual, when Sophia Narwitz points out game journos saying stupid shit incriminating they're bad at their jobs:

It's kinda rare that there would be a hard mode that doesn't allow you to carry progress forward from earlier difficulties. More often than not hard mode and NG+ go hand in hand allowing people to prep for higher difficulties.

I'm honestly glad that journos are letting the mask slip and proudly letting everyone know that when things get tough, just curl up in a ball and cower.

Makes it easier for me to know just what opinions to discard and immediately render them as irrelevant (as if there's any modern game journalist opinion that's relevant)

None of that has happened yet. A fucking Dark Souls LP, oh my god, how innovative. No one has ever done that before.
I was lit

So basically "I refuse to do my job." In what actual job could you get away with utter bullshit like this? Imagine you were a grocery bagger and just said no, I'm not going to put groceries in bags, that's beneath me, I'm just going to put the eggs on the bottom and then smash down gallons of milk on them.

Makes it easier to know who goes up against the wall. Because that time is coming.

Don't they have a union now and their average pay is like $50k or something? For doing nothing? Shit, if only I could stomach faking their opinions, I'd join up.

Ian Walker only started working at Kotaku last year, and it seems that he has easily elevated himself to be the worst guy there. Nice editorship with the site, Patricia.

A profile in the latest issue of Edge magazine saw former Sledgehammer Games exec Glen Schofield tell the venerable UK publication that fans don’t fully appreciate what it takes for a studio to get a Call of Duty game out the door.

“People nowadays [think] a Call of Duty is…you know, just put it through the grinder and another one will come out.” Schofield said. “They don’t realize how much work goes into making a Call of Duty game. There’s just a ton of research.”

What kind of research? He clarified:

“You’re working with experts—I studied World War II for three years. I worked with historians. I spent eight days in a van in Europe going to all the places that were going to be in the game. I shot different old weapons. All of these things that you have to do when you’re working on a Call of Duty game.”

Schofield also mentioned working alongside special forces from several different countries while acting as co-director on two Call of Duty games (Advanced Warfare, WWII) and supporting Infinity Ward on a third (Modern Warfare 3) during his tenure at Sledgehammer. That honestly doesn’t seem like that bad of a deal as far as video game development goes. When the topic of hard work came up, I fully expected him to give a nod to quality assurance or speak on the grueling Call of Duty dev cycle, not “reading” and “watching videos,” as he goes on to explain.

While in no way do I intend to diminish the often-overwhelming amount of work that goes into making video games (the majority of which falls to the grunts rather than leadership), what Schofield is talking about here sounds suspiciously like a vacation. Sure, it’s probably hard to think of it that way when you’re there for work, but come on. You’re traveling Europe with Activision’s credit card in your wallet, not back in the studio documenting bugs for 12 hours a day at barely more than minimum wage.

A veteran of the industry, Schofield has overseen the development of several influential video game franchises throughout his decades of experience, most notably sci-fi survival horror franchise Dead Space. He stepped down from his position as vice president and general manager at Sledgehammer Games in 2019 to become CEO of Striking Distance Studios, a newly formed subsidiary of PUBG Corporation parent company Krafton. The studio’s first game, The Callisto Protocol, is part of the burgeoning PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds universe, set several hundreds of years in the future.

“Striking Distance Studios has one goal with The Callisto Protocol: to make one of the most terrifying games of all time,” Schofield said at the time.

There’s no telling what kind of research that will involve, but it’s sure to be a great deal more intensive than a nice European vacation and firing an M1 Garand or two.

The words of someone who clearly doesn't know shit about (a) business travel, (b) location research, and (c) the work and responsibilities of a company exec. But bosses bad, mirite?

So it seems like there's universal recognition that the article is shit. Even ResetEra of all places got a thread criticizing it, at least until a mod came in to play Journo Defense Force on page 7.
