Kotaku and "rape culture"
This is late, but about a month ago Kotaku finally took down the article about Jeremy Soule's alleged harassment of several women. (the link is dead now, here's the latest archived version). The reason is, one of the victims featured in the article accused the author, Cecilia d'Anastasio, of misreporting and exploiting the victims. She published several lengthy blogpost detailing her experiences with D'Anastasio. This is all very long to read, but the important bits are:
-D'Anastasio only brings up two women, when there were more alleged victims who shared their stories, but apparently they couldn't bring up sufficient evidence.
- Woman provided the receipts of her messages with the composer to prove she wasn't flirting with him. D'Anastasio framed it as the flirting was mutual and consensual.
- The woman who published the blogposts claims she was affected the most and received unwanted sexual attention as a result of D'Anastasio publishing the details of her sexual assault in the original version of the article.

Take it as you will, but this becomes relevant in the midst of the current ActiBlizz situation where more people are accusing Kotaku of covering up stories of sexual abuse before.

The important thing to realize when bringing up this saga is that Natalie Lawhead, the prime "victim", is legitimately insane and absolutely should not be believed when she spins these tales of victimhood. It appears that she spirals into delusional paranoia regarding anyone she interacts with, thus coming up with lies about those people so that others will take pity on her. Lawhead lied about Jeremy Soule, using supposed rape as clickbait for her giant blog post that's actually about employment grievances with a boss she didn't like, and she lied about Cecilia D'Anastasio, getting cold feet when the reporter scrutinized her story about Soule even though D'Anastasio bought into her narrative 100%. It's a real travesty that Kotaku only withdrew their original article as a favor to the liar Lawhead, not to Soule who was the real victim in all of this. And even though D'Anastasio got thrown under the bus by Lawhead and became shunned by her peers, I get the impression that she refuses to recognize that Lawhead and the whole game journo clique is full of shit.

The perpetuation of this false accusation against Jeremy Soule started by a crazy person is just one example of why I'm extremely skeptical of the California vs Acti-Blizzard lawsuit and the subsequent horror stories people are telling. Horror stories such as "a female Blizzard employee got a mundane annual review with point for improvement", and "a Blizzard recruiter at a job fair remarked on a female attendee's obvious sexual innuendo t-shirt."

Thanks for the heads-up! Not feeling bad for D'Anastasio either, she should not have published her hitpiece in the first place, that thing was hilariously badly written as she definitely wasn't qualified to report on sexual assault, and whoever believes Kotaku would stand for the victims is a moron.
Well, ActiBlizz is a thing now, next year it's CD Project or whoever, just you wait. I definitely remember Weta Workshop controversy last year when a popular streamer complained about male employees touching her butt or something... Big companies having managing problems is not a news. Quantic Dream was under fire only a month ago, nobody cares now.

I haven't followed the Blizzard stuff that closely but the whole thing feels a bit weird and I saw one of the statements they put out(the accussers) that talked about sexual harassment before launching into how they must protect, empower and hire bipoc queer women and trannies for senior positions or some shit. What does that have to do with sexual harassment? Nothing.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's some really shady socjus play for unionization.

Seeing these bloggers get jobs in mainstream publications shows how far journalism has sunk into oblivion.
This is literally the Washington Post. With worthless vermin like this "reporting." Imagine the pathetic level they've sunk to that they're literally fishing scumfucks out of the dumpster and calling them "reporters."

Sega Ikebukuro GiGO Arcade Is Shuttering Next Month

The Sega Ikebukuro GiGO arcade in Tokyo debuted on July 21, 1993, and it’s shuttering in September, with the 20th as its final day. In addition to offering video games, Sega Ikebukuro GiGO has offered many crane games and sticker picture booths, as well as a Sega Taiyaki shop so people could grab a bite to eat.

This comes after arcades like The Silk Hat Ikebukuro arcade, Adores, and The Sega Akihabara Building 2 have closed during the pandemic. Arcades had already not been doing as well because more and more people were gaming at home, but the COVID quarantine really hit hard.

When the eight-story arcade is gone, there will be renovations done on the building. Sega Ikebukuro GiGO did not specifically say it’s been underperforming, so it’s not impossible that it will reopen elsewhere, or that another, smaller arcade might be created in the area. However, since there were no promises to reopen, it could be that this is just the end.

Many Japanese fans reminisced on social media, saying such things as:

“When they first opened, I was working in the neighborhood and the fighting game crazy was in full swing, so I used to stop by all the time.”
“I’ve been going there to play crane games for the past 20 years. The Shinn Asuka and Rey Za Burrel [of Gundam Seed Destiny] plushies I got there are still two of my most precious treasures.”
“I’ll never forget going to the Sakura Wars cafe on the top floor.”
“I haven’t visited in a while, but this place will always be a page in the book of memories from my youth.”
For the time being the arcade will still be open from 10 in the morning to 11 at night, so people in the area can still get some last-minute gaming in at this iconic site before its lease runs out. The arcade is located at Tokyo-to, Toshima-ku, Higashi Ikebukuro 1-21-1.

I think I literally saw this arcade in Steins; Gate on of their flashback episodes. Hopefully something optimistic comes of this, but this just sucks all around.

I's probably shitty of me to wish for people to lose jobs, but their condescending attitudes has worn thin on me.
It's always good to wish for members of the lügenpresse to lose their jobs. The more of them that are unemployed, the fewer of them are getting paid to make their dumb noises, and that means less noise overall since these hacks only bark when there's money in it.

Resigning from your job at an establishment video game journalist site only to now work at an establishment Washington newspaper to cover more politics in gaming culture

I’m not really sure that this is something that can quantify as a win.
Hell, that's the career progression gaming journalists aspire to. They hate games, they hate gamers and they want to get paid to shout it from the rooftops. So they latch onto the gaming journalism teat to get started with a steady (albeit shitty) paycheck and then eventually suck (sorry, I mean "schmooze") their way into a cushier gig at a non-gaming outfit. They certainly think it's a win.

Of course, I can't imagine their colleagues respect them at all (and I'm sure they're at the very bottom of the pecking order and are likely to stay there -- who here thinks Jason Schreier is ever going to do anything worthy of "respect" from his peers?) and they lack the chops to ever stand out in the "big leagues," or they'd have started there in the first place.

End of an era. In its heyday this place was the fuckin Taj Mahal of Tokyo arcade gaming.

Sadly, between COVID and the general decline of arcades a lot of the great Tokyo locations are going or gone. The now-dead Shibuya Club Sega was always my favorite, cuz they had a stand out front where you could cop an ice cream crepe in between games.

I’m still holding out hope that Jeff leaves and ends up hosting a satellite radio show about SoCal hip-hop.

Also, will Brad Shoemaker transition by the end of this year, or next year?

I don't have a clue what's going on with Jeff. He'd probably be happier doing anything other than staying and having to deal with a bunch of mongoloids who have no interest in what they're covering. Watching a bit of him rummaging through his garage full of random shit, you can tell how much he misses what he used to do.

As for Brad, he went hard into Covid fearmongering. I'm pretty sure he never left his apartment since the start of it, hence not giving a shit about his hair.
