Games that are tumblr bait, but good. Doesn’t have to be intentional.

Shantae series

Although I'd say only the 3rd game is great; I like the series enough that I donated to the fourths kickstarter.

I’m also probably in the minority here, but I thought Life Is Strange was OK. There were arts I liked, and parts I didn’t. But overall I enjoyed it for what it was.
I personally though life is lesbian was ok, the problem is that god awfull ending and the reason for the time powers and supertornado being: i dunno, life is strange GET IT

I actually found Night in the Woods to be quite beautiful and pleasantly wistful. Its story can be read in such a way that transcends politics altogether, as an examination of the 'equivalent exchange' transaction at play in many facets of human culture.

I noticed DMC5 got some attention from Tumblr due to V.

IIRC, Darkest Dungeon has some SJW-bait (like the Arbalest and her backstory), though I`m not sure it even counts. In spite of that, it`s still one of the best games I`ve played in my entire life.

I really like the idea of a game with ShindoL art packs also being tumblr bait.

Diaries of a Spaceport Janitor was fun in a casual "what the fuck is going on" sort of way, but I wouldn't recommend it to everyone. It's really an acquired taste for some really fucking weird games. There's always a fucking spergout going on in the game's discussions since it has a weird mechanic where you will become dizzy and ill if you don't "change genders" every once in a while, and they're all named really goofy shit so only a complete autist would take it seriously.

The one thing I'll give it is that despite the amount of bitching over the dialog, it was spot on - that is exactly how teenage girls were talking to each other at the time the game was released, I assume the writers had their daughters help with the lines because it had every bit of cringe and melodrama you'll be flooded with hearing them talk to each other for extended periods of time. They had a target demographic in mind and I'll be damned if they didn't nail it with a sledgehammer.

Tumblr hates the Shantae series because the main character is underaged. Even if she wasn't underaged in the first game, they'd hate it because it's horny or whatever.

I don’t think that bait in-and-of itself is a bad thing, exactly. It can be a good tool for getting your product to an audience, and for the consumer to know who’s the target audience in the first place. It just becomes an issue when the product is bad.
Like, I’d say something like Bojack Horseman is Reddit Bait, but I liked it. Rick and Morty was also Reddit Bait, but I didn’t like the third season as much as the first two.
Hatred was Edgy Sped Bait, and it was shit. But, so was Hotline Miami and those games are great fun. Execution is still very important.
Why Tumblr bait seems to be more annoying is because it tends to present itself as W O K E and all that. It can become holier-than-thou, and still be a bad product at the end of it. It can get grating.
>tfw there will never be a kiwibait game

I like Shantae because it’s a fun Meroidvainia game and just looks pretty, I can take or leave the fanservice. But Tumblr only focuses on the tits and stuff.
Great music too.
It’s just a good time.

That’s why I liked it. Barring the things needed for a plot, the characters felt real enough that I could put faces of people I know to them.

I’m playing seven sirens, which launched on Apple Arcade. It’s pretty cool.

Honestly Night in the Woods was so fucking close to being "asdjfdf uwu;," territory, but somehow only just barely passed as a good take on that kind of degeneracy. Probably because it had to be based on some kind of IRL interactions which tumblrettes can't relate to.

I never understood the hype for Undertale, but that game came out when I was in high-school and all my 'friends' (kids I was in music classes with) spoiled me half to death for it. As such, Deltarune has kinda just flown under my radar.

I've heard it's just more of the same from UT anyway.
Despite my friends at the time liking it, I somehow managed to avoid spoilers like the plague and finally played it 2 years after it came out with no prior knowledge. Would reccomend.

I've not played the Old Blood. It's something I still need to do.

It's more of the same (of New Order) but not as good. Still worth a few bucks if you can get it cheap.

I guess I’ll be the first person to mention the obvious Deltarune. I’m surprised nobody’s brought it up yet.

That's what immediately came to mind. Deltarune was great, though a little cringeworthy at times, just like Undertale.
