Games That Should Be Played "The right way" - Real or imagined

The only thing you should ever give a shit about is listening to someone tell you how to get an older game running properly on modern hardware, or if there are any community patches/mods to fix bugs/possibly add in dummied out content if desired.

Anyone sperging out at you for playing a game in a way they don’t approve is a cum guzzling soyfaced faggot of the highest caliber and you have my permission to curb stomp them repeatedly

I had similar trouble (though I was playing the PS2 port). I was later told that to make guns viable you have to use the heal bot and the super sniper rifle. What heal bot? What rifle? Turns out there's some obscure secrets that you're just expected to know.

System Shock 2 is kind of the same. I had a miserable time because it turned out psionics are under powered unless you know all the secrets. The guns are made of cream crackers judging by how fast they disintegrate, making the "beginner build" a melee build. I didn't know that, so it was apparently my fault that I had a sucky time because "everyone knows the wrench in System Shock 2 is OP".
Is it accurate to say that if you didn't like System Shock 2, you won't like Deus Ex?

Because SS2 is one of the most overrated games ever. This is speaking as someone who liked the original System Shock, but SS2 just made me feel like everything I was doing was wrong, or like I had the kind of Game Master who would arbitrarily make something happen just to screw me over.

I don't understand the speedrunners who play old-school DOOM fan megawads on Ultra-Violence. Nightmare or bust, you pussies!
The biggest difference between Nightmare and UV is primarily that the monsters respawn but the actual number of enemies and damage taken is the same. You also get double the amount of ammo per pickup on Nightmare.

Depending on how the WAD is made, playing Nightmare can just be a chore. But to a speedrunner the enemy respawn stuff probably wouldn't make much difference because they'd either avoid killing enemies they don't need to or just not stick around the level long enough for them to come back. The extra ammo would definitely make a difference however.

The biggest example of a game being played wrong I can think of is that old Platinum shooter, Vanquish. People who complained about the game being another third person cover shooter are the ones who completely ignored the huge amount of movement options the game gave you and just played it like a Gears of War knockoff. With the power slides and the slowdown mechanic there was very little reason to actually just sit in one place most of the time.

If you're not playing Minecraft Java with OptiFine or some other performance enhancing mod that tries to fix the game's spaghetticode, what the fuck are you doing?

Either that or go play BedRock.

Oh speaking of performance enhancers and whatnot, getting SilentPatch is an absolute requirement if you want to play the GTA trilogy on PC.
There's other things like widescreen fix and FPS fixes as well, but I'll just leave this video here on how to do it:

I have been playing VtMB and it's pretty good. But as you said it's janky as hell. It had a really troubled development, and it seems like the developers overextended themselves it seems. I know people like to blame Activision but that probably didn't help either. When someone gives you a deadline you have to stick to it.
activision wanted the game to come out before half life 2. valve wanted it to come out after since they were using a beta version of source. the result is it came out the exact same day as half life 2. basically they never stood a chance and had the game been given a bit more time and funding theres a chance a lot wouldve been better fixed

Just use the downgrader and it installs all those mods. It even installs a mod that gives you the PS2 atmospheric effects.

If you cheese in an RTS and especially in SC2 as anything other than Zerg I WILL rage at you and I WILL call you racial slurs. Macro gameplay is morally superior to dirty nigger cheesing.

I knew a Asian dude who said if you mod a game you're not playing it correctly. Yes that includes the Bethesda games
There's been some controversy around mods recently. Mostly when it comes to removing pride flags. Mods that translate a game faithfully, restore features that were cut during "localization" are also targeted. The defense they use is that "it's not what the devs intended". The implication being that hacks at localization companies are more legit devs than the people that made the game. Funny that excuse is never used against mods that add pride flags.

A bit off topic, but the Half-Life fandom is really bad when it comes to modding. They love mods that follow the lore are good because they're faithful. They like shitpost mods like Crack Life are just non-canon fun. But there's a certain range in between where they become livid. The author of Cinematic Mod was bullied off the internet, and still has the Half-Life fanbase seething a decade later. Recently, Half-Life Raytracing mod came out and Half-Life purists are complaining that it ruins the atmosphere.

To be fair that mod was pretty garbage and had shit weapons handling, like how in the fuck do you manage to make Half-Life 2 mediocre weapons worse?

I can see where they're coming from with this, considering how Quake II rtx makes it everything look clean. But it's also a mod so it doesn't hurt anyone imo

As nerdy and elitist as it sounds, there is such a thing as playing a game the wrong way. For example:

But for everything else you can play however the fuck you want. Anyone who say's they're a purist and say bullshit like "NOOOOOO! You have to play Doom with keyboard only at 640x80 at 35FPS!" Or "Nooooooooooooo! You can't use the Holy Water and cheese death in the original Castlevania! You have to play it my way!" Fuck those people.

I agree, but also because fan made patches and mods shouldn't be an excuse for a dev putting out a shitty game. You want to laugh at dragons that fly upside down and everything that's fine, the game gives you hundreds of hours of fun, that's fine; just don't tell me Bethesda makes good games when they're only good because of internet randos. And I laughed at every Bethesda simp when 76 came out and their favorite modders couldn't fix the diarrhea aids that Bethesda gave them. Oh you're not having fun now, why is that? I thought Bethesda made good games.

I knew it was a DSP clip even before clicking on it. To be fair though, crouch jumping causes carpal tunnel when playing Black Mesa before the added the auto crouch jump feature. But you can also disable it if you want that True & Honest Half-Life experience

That sounds like some console peasant shit. Years ago when the whole PCMR and console peasant thing was still going there was a channel on YouTube called top hats and champagne. He made videos called stupid console peasant qoutes. Console faggots saying people shouldn't use mods because you weren't playing the game the way the developers intended was frequently used in the videos. A lot of console tards said that shit. That and 24 fps provided a more cinematic experience.

Those types of people are faggots. I play Doom 93 and Doom II at 1920x1080 using GZDoom with mouse look. I don't use the texture blurring though because it looks like crap.

Bethesda sure did take a bad turn after Morrowind Oblivion and Skyrim. I remember people really liking Skyrim back when it released in 2011. That arrow in the knee meme was fucking everywhere.
If you're playing GTA IV/V, you have to replay missions to hear all the dialogue. And stay in the car when a good song comes on.
In GTA V I like to beat up and shoot everyone using a smartphone. In GTA IV I like to drive around and shoot all the Jew NPC's I can find.
