Games With Really Spergy Fanbases That You Still Enjoy

Yeah, DCS is probably the worst one or at least tied with the weirdos who spend all day on X-Plane/MS:FS pretending to be ATC. Even the guys still playing Jane's F-15E and Super Hornet are more relaxed than them. I'd say go hit up combatace.com instead, they're the more relaxed group for any stuff like DCS, ARMA and Rise of Flight, which all attract the spergs like flies to honey
Gotta say whilst watching DCS videos last week I came across a dude pretending to be ATC in MS:FS and deliberately crashing people into each other whilst getting doused in pure uncut autism.

Sonic. Although I only like the Genesis stuff. The Sonic fandom is horrible. But everybody knows that. All you need to do is avoid other Sonic fans. You never know when the crazy will pop up.

The Zelda fandom has some shipping/timeline spergs that I can't stand. People arguing over whether or not Link wants to rail Zelda or Malon. Why not both? He's the hero. He should be able to get as much action as he wants.
Nintendo putting out an official timeline hasn't stopped the timeline spergs. But I didn't think it would.

But the worst part is looking up Zelda art and seeing fat, black trans Link with hairy legs or something awful like that. And the "why can't Link be a girl" bitching. He's not. End of story.

Pokemon fans complaining about the games' stories. I can't even remember them. I have never paid attention to the story in a Pokemon game. I don't see why it's that important. No one really cares about anything but the pokemon anyway. I can't even name many NPCs or trainers. I can't even recall the names of the Elite Four in any given game. But I can name tons of pokemon.

Luckily most of what I like is unpopular enough that I don't have to deal with too many crazy fans. Although that makes finding other fans harder too.

I think Overwatch is a given.

I spent my entire WoW career getting invested in the lore even though I knew it was crap most of the time. But I found the world interesting and I liked learning more about it. Overall it was worth it for the occasional brilliant bits (mostly just TBC and Wrath) and the boundless silliness. But as I played on an RP server for the latter half of my time there I came to realize there's a shitload of people who take this game's lore at face value and think it's really good. I just couldn't believe there were people over the age of 13 who think Christie Golden is a good writer.

I loved Halo before Bungie passed it off. But like most shooters the fanbase was garbage. To this day I don't know which section of the fanbase was more annoying: the obligatory shooter kiddies hyped up on Monster drinks or the Jace-tier faggots who wanked over Spartans and the ODST because it was babby's first military sci-fi story.

Retro gaming full stop has had a massive injection of 'tism recently. The price of old consoles and games is skyrocketing as 14 year old trend followers buy them up and then pretend to know a single thing about them on YouTube. Theres a guy on YouTube called NostalgiaNerd who lives in my area and stalks the same charity shops and second hands stores as me and he makes me so god damned angry. His channel is a perfect clone of the amazing LGR even down to the formatting and he pays ridiculous prices for shit. He also cherry picks job lots and leaves the junk behind which helps nobody.

I hate people like that. They make it impossible for actual fans to get their hands on so many things because "lulz mah Youtube views".

A lot of people who really care about the games can't even get views because idiots like that hog all the attention. Stupid hipsters.

ha ha, combatace is a riot. I find it heartwarmingly endearing that half the community is like 70 year old, barely computer literate grandpas patiently trying to figure out how to install 20 year old Strikefighters mods. But seriously, I love the place. The top autists over there have lovingly crafted exquisitely detailed aerial campaigns and terrains for even the obscurest theatres and conflicts, unfazed by the horribly assbackwards SF modding tools. Some of those terrains are almost professional grade, like I'd be willing to pay for them, they're that good given the restrictions of the ancient software, and it's a real treasure that everything there is free. I'm not much into the technical side of modding, but I do try to give back every now and then by helping out with the references and historical sourcing side of campaign modding.

Yeah, luckily Lazy Game Reviews gets the attention it deserves because that guy is hands down one of the worlds foremost experts on vintage computers and gaming and manages to exude that passion without being a spergy over excitable loser. He can have literally all my respect as nobody else on YouTube earns it.

100% Agree. I don't post there often but I'm always shocked at how pleasant and persistent they are about everything. They had a thread once where some 17 year old poster was about to go on his first date with some girl he met and all the old dudes there were teaching him how to tie a windsor and what kind of flowers to bring. it was heartwarming as hell

I know it's not games, but everyone needs to respect Dugan Ashley

I can't get over how unbelievably patient the average user over there can be. Just as an example, there's a much anticipated SF2 mod there that has been in development for more than a decade now: "When Thunder Rolled", an F-105 campaign being made in close collaboration with a (now deceased) Vietnam Thunderchief combat vet. Multiple team members and fans have literally died of old age since the project began, and they're still glacially chugging away at it, receiving nothing but effusive praise and genuine enthusiasm and gratitude from the community every few years when they share a new screenshot or two. It boggles the mind; in any other modding community, such a slow moving project with so little tangible results to show for their work would have collapsed on its own or been laughed off the site by now. Sometimes I feel like the only sane person over there, hoping that my favorite mods don't take more than 10 years to put out a playable beta while everyone else seems perfectly ok with a release date set in the next century.

I'm an unfortunate fan of games that have gained an autistic following (Pokémon, Undertale, Sonic, you name it), but I try to stay away from the crazies as much as possible.

Please accept my apology on behalf of the entire undertale fandom for being disgusting. Most of us try to hide that shit.

I still enjoy Pokémon despite the fandom. It's pretty bad, but it's easy to make fun of.

I've slowly gotten into the Kirby, Legend of Zelda, and Metroid fandoms over the years, or at least enjoy them enough to consider myself a fan, but outside of the LoZ fanboys, I haven't really seen much sperging going on with them. Then again, I suppose I've made the better choice of staying near the outskirts of those fandoms.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon. Boy howdy did that series attract some weapons grade 'tism. Still a solid game, though I'm biased toward Mystery Dungeon games in general.

I didn't wander too far into that sub-fandom to begin with, but I must've been lucky to have not run into the big spergs. All the PMD fans I knew were pretty chill.

I love Left 4 Dead like no other, but holy fuck is the community pure cancer. I've never seen a game come close to it in terms of abusing the "vote kick" option.
Versus is the worst. How am I supposed to pick up how to play it when I get vote kicked for the most trivial shit?

undertale has a pretty shit fanbase but the game is pretty good for the 8 hours i played it. the sims has a pretty shit fanbase too, but i'm mainly referring to the main franchise. telltale's the walking dead-actually wait, any game telltale has made since sam and max-you see their community it's pretty shit no matter what side of the community you're on

This thread has made me realize that not only am I not a member of any actual fandom, I also hate the idea of being associated with them. More or less in response to this thread I bought Ace Combat 6 which I've been told is "the best one" by a few people. You know what, I like it a lot, cheesy dialogue, bad acting and hyper dramatic story lines combined and overblown arcade combat scratches an itch for me. I've asked myself a number of times over the last 12 hours or so "Why didn't I play this ages ago?" and I realized that it's because among Flight Sim players the second you say the words "I play Ace Combat" you get lynched.
