It's nice that people are interested in the STALKER games. I recommend playing the first game with no mods the first time around to get a feel it.
I played STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl vanilla the first time around, and I hated the game.

I hated the aesthetic, I hated how easy the game was to exploit and get super powerful equipment really early on when you weren't supposed to, I hated how it crashed frequently, I hated so much about it because I thought it was a genuinely great game with severe flaws. The game also crashed at the brain scorcher and wouldn't allow me to continue whatsoever. So I stopped playing it.

Then I tried LURK

Literally, every single thing I said above was fixed via LURK. It was such a dramatic improvement over vanilla it's basically SoC "The good edition". To put it into perspective, GSC Game World was asked back in like 2008-2009 why they weren't going to continue patching Shadow of Chernobyl. And they stated that the fanbase fixed the game better than they ever could. I'll post a few comparisons between vanilla and LURK

Vanilla:

LURK:

I revisit the STALKER series every so often and I agree that LURK really made that game replayable. SoC definately had bad exploits. Right off the bat you can just go and pick a fight with the military guys, coax them back to town, kill them, and take their AK's.

That being said, I really enjoyed that game even in it's vanilla state. In fact, like most, I loved all of them but Clear Sky. I'm pretty sad that the developers aren't going to make any more.

You can jump onto a specific house in Cordon and find an armor you're not supposed to get until much later on in the game when you return to the starting area. Indeed in the unpatched version you can find a LOT of really absurdly powerful equipment very early on. Even in the fully patched version you can still get it, albiet it's slightly harder.

But yeah it's unfortunate GSC is dead. The same devs are making Survivarium which looks to be okay.

I really wanted Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 to come out for the Xbox One since I don't have a 360 anymore. :o
What in gods holy name would persuade you to lose your 360 for a One?

The STALKER games are now on GOG.com. I might revisit the first game with the lurk mod.

I'm playing it with Zone of Alienation. It has good bits and bad bits.

Good Bits
* Graphical improvement.
* A new magazine and cartridge system for improved realism in loading your weapons and preparing for combat.
* Higher damage on both you and NPCs.
* A ton of new weapons.
* From AMK, a total reinclusion of the A-Life system that massively improves NPC actions and reactions and makes for even better immersion and interactions.

Bad Bits
* Almost all invisible anomalies, which are often one-hit kills thanks to the higher damage. Only way to find them is to buy a detector or listen for their sound.
* Magazine system is clunky and unintuitive: you need to right click a mag in your inventory to put it on your belt, hit 5 to pull it out, and right click to unload it or left click to reload it. Unloading doesn't seem to work right and it's impossible to reload a partially filled magazine.
* It doesn't appear possible to reload a gun before the magazine in it is empty.

I also really want to play \M/ETAL Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes again.

I know Metal Gear Solid V seems to be moving in a more serious and properly cinematic (as opposed to "stupidly long monologues" cinematic) direction, but I'm going to miss the old series. Narm, David Hayter, stupidly long cutscenes, blatant violations of reality, kudzu plots, and loads of Easter eggs, in-jokes, references, and blatant humor that completely wrecks any attempt at being serious.

The games are terrifically flawed, but most of their flaws are what make the games appealing. No other game could have a character pull a Desert Eagle on her dad on the day of her wedding for literally no reason before asking him to walk her down the aisle. Or have a character shit himself during a gunfight.

I just want Binding of Isaac Rebirth to come out.

If I was to buy Serious Sam 1 (both First and Second Encounters), should I buy the originals, or the HD versions?

Even with all the mixed press surrounding the new Thief game, I would still like to play it. However, I'm willing to wait until it goes on sale. I'd pay at most 7.50$ for it.

Harvester. It looks really hilarious. And since it's incredibly gory, disturbing and controversial, it's right up my alley.
