Nintendo patents everything. And if they don't patent it, they'll still go Tojo on the ass of anyone that does something they do not approve of.

Talk about a rookie mistake.

Fun sidenote: Nintendo's gameplay patents are really fucking interesting and informative. Their patent on rubber banding in Mario Kart is very illuminating.

Did anyone get a half decent archive of garrysmod.org?
I wish I knew. I still kind of remember how old website looked. Still upset about facepunch forums being nuked. They deleted like almost two decades worth of stuff you won't find ANYWHERE today. Like amateur maps, wiremod expression scripts or some addons that have never been shared in other places, scripting guides, saves and dupes. And just memories in general. So many memories gone.

A couple images that show how the Garry's Mod playerbase is reacting to the news.

Someone made this "PSA" poster that says to archive addons.

Sorry Garry, looks like there's more pressing matters on the table than Nazis now. You got Nintendo on your ass, probably a worse fate than what the 6 gorillion had to suffer.

Big issue for me as well, SVN was a pretty big distribution method for bigger mods. Particularly game mode related addons like Spacebuild. Or autistic RP recreations of stalker. That and the advance duplicator was infinitely more flexible than whatever the hell is on the workshop now.
If I get around to it, I'll upload my 15gb gmod10 addons folder to an archive site.

I still don't believe this is actually Nintendo. You're telling me that it took Nintendo 17 years to realize that Gmod had all these Nintendo mods, many of which were shown in Gmod animations on Youtube over the years, when they have taken out all sorts of small projects within seconds going all the way back to the 80s, it makes zero sense. If this was Nintendo they would have taken it all down back in 2007, not now. Garry is taking all of this all down because he has a huge ego with a combination of pride and he easily lets himself fall for these scams, and he takes all of it down out of spite.

So apparently, He doesn't fucking know if it actually was NIntendo?

What the fuck?

"Why have they been doing this shit for 10 years?"
Surely this guy understands that the internet is full of insane weirdos who will spend every waking moment on batshit nonsense, right? Not even just for fun or a laugh, but because they're crazy.

How is he so fucking retarded? Is it because hes british?
You've answered your own question.

However mm-nintendo.com is Nintendo's domain. It's registered by MarkMonitor, which sits on domains for other companies. R* used them to register every fake domain in IV and V to redirect to their site. It's possible that they use it for legal mails and whatnot.

But, Steam forums being retarded, that's one thing. It took me less than a minute to do a WHOIS lookup to verify the authenticity of the domain. Garry is still a br*tish cuck retard for wondering whether or not that domain is legit. It's piss easy to check.

And this is Garry Newman of all people, the guy who ran a Gmod Something Awful clone since 2004 that had plenty of said crazy individuals.

On the topic of mod preservation, I know a lot of mods for newer games are being hosted on a site called Thunderstore.io, and I'd like to draw attention to the fact that the website has their entire codebase on Github and licensed under AGPLv3. Meaning, anyone can setup and host their own mod website if they wanted to.

If this is fake then he has some of the worst lawyers in history. They would just contact nintendo's lawyers and then tell him and he would tell everyone. Why the fuck is he talking about email domains and shit? What a retard.

The thing is when Nintendo does takedowns they use Nintendo.com and not mm-nintendo.com.

NGL the copyright troll was clever by impersonating Nintendo out of all companies.

Vindicated again. I'm not sure why people were so sure that Nintendo ( a company notorious for being hyper-protective of their IP) wouldn't send a takedown to remove their characters/assets in other games.

This is the reason that mods shouldn't be hosted centrally in an easy to takedown place like the Steam Workshop. Yes, it is way more convenient than other places, but shit can just get removed instantly with no recourse.
You answered the question on why people have gotten progressively dumber on what to do when hosting unoffical content like mods or fan content in the past 20+ years, becuase it's convenient yet people don't think to futureproof the availability in the case something like this happens.

The whole nintendo drama is setting a terrible precedent for the death of GMOD. Its insane how ex-post-facto doesn't apply in the minds of most people when this stuff was around for over a decade with no problems and suddenly now its an issue. Whoever wrote this sounds like a british faggot who needs to be crushed by a toilet fired by a gravity gun.

"Some of you may have noticed that certain Nintendo related workshop items have recently been taken down. This is not a mistake, the takedowns came from Nintendo.

Honestly, this is fair enough. This is Nintendo's content and what they allow and don't allow is up to them. They don't want you playing with that stuff in Garry's Mod - that's their decision, we have to respect that and take down as much as we can.

This is an ongoing process, as we have 20 years of uploads to go through. If you want to help us by deleting your Nintendo related uploads and never uploading them again, that would help us a lot."

This is why we don't put Nintendo and Disney things in our mods, people. Those should have been yanked down by the dev team instead of being left up. Now the whole site is going to suffer. Also this is why we have backups, archives, and most importantly multiple hosting avenues.
Nah, gamble idiots. Make that Mario/Elsa sex mod and heavily publicize it in steam workshops. You're gonna be in a rich place. Get it twisted.

First of all I don't know why you blocked out the poster of the reply cause it makes you look unhinged. Second of all, there is quite a lot of proof that shows that it's not real. Here's a whole list of info about it

Second of all this has happened to websites before. A doujin website named Sanaku had the same issues back in 2019 because the same troll tried to do the same thing with Splatoon porn there, they realized that the website was not Nintendo, did nothing, and are still up today with no issues.

All this really points to is that Garry is a retard who doesn't know how to identify what an actual DMCA is and what is a phishing scam and is doing all of this because he doesn't want to look like an asshole who removed a bunch of mods for no reason. Probably finds it easier to remove the Nintendo mods anyways, but remember this is the same guy who doesn't even know what file format his game's files are.
