Taken from Wikipedia's entry on The Far Side:
Honestly I think Gary Lawson foresaw in advance that the freedom of the internet would allow people to alter comics which he clearly abhors since he treasures his work. He pretty much predicted internet meme culture.
Think about Garfield, it was a drab inoffensive comic about a fat smug cat. Some dude on the internet realized that if you take Garfield out of the comics (Garfield Without Garfield) the comic turns into the bizarre nonsense monologues of Jon Arbuckle. Then Fatal Farm decided to lampoon Garfield with their classic "Lasagna Cat" spoofs. Nowadays Garfield is more or less a punching bag for internet humor. For zoomers Garfield is probably more famous for its parodies then its actual comics or cartoons.
I can't get into the head of a 67 year old Baby Boomer. But maybe Larson finally realized that the internet only really beats up on lame ass comics. The Far Side along with Calvin & Hobbes are insanely influential works, I don't think the guys who made Rick & Morty would deny that they were clearly inspired by Larson when they came up with that show's recurring surreal visual gags.
I hope he continues making comics, maybe it'll encourage Bill Watterson to make more stuff, although C&H should stay completed. His guest star comics for "Pearls Before Swine" were great.
Grizzly Adams vs Grizzly Grizzly is peak Far SideI lost it at "Trees celebrating Christmas".
To be fair, Jim Davis freely admits he's only in it for the money and was figuring out ways to license and merchandise Garfield from the beginning. He has also said he gets a kick out of stuff like G-G.
We’ll know that the sun is about to go supernova when Calvin and Hobbes returns.
I mean there's nothing wrong with it. He left the comic before it became dull and forumulaic. I can only imagine how much better Peanuts would have been remembered had Charles Schultz bowed out early instead of making years and years of tired comics.Watterson will never return. The autism is too strong. The last thig he did was those leather bound volumes to replenish his neetbux
ehh, I'm sorta okay with Peanuts going until Sparky bought itI can only imagine how much better Peanuts would have been remembered had Charles Schultz bowed out early instead of making years and years of tired comics.
I remember when that faggot did this on facebook. I commented on his ad and said something like "Calvin and Hobbes would never be in your crappy comic" and he deleted my comment. I guess people don't like the truth when you steal someone elses work.Since I've never actually seen this mentioned anywhere: back when Facebook let anyone buy adspace to promote absolutely anything, me and hundreds of others initially thought so too when this was in the promoted page rotation

Because CALVIN & HOBBES RETURN! is something that gets an intense goddamn click, you'll miss the fine print indicating you're about to read a Fables ripoff

The entire thing reminded me of something that you'd find via a rom site banner ad in the ultra-early 2000's, but at least pioneers like Cards-n-Toons had the decency to give you either boomer hoomer OR hot girls

Also, my interpretation of Cow Tools for the first time as a kid was "monkeys use tools, so it'd be funny if cows did too", and I was pleased to find out that Pre-history of The Far Side vindicated me
Yeah, but you can screenshot anything.Tbf I see where he's coming from but I swear there's a way to disable it so you can't save or copy and paste pics
