In reality, Gawker closing is bad only for those that are either a part of it or white knighting it. For everyone else, it's either a good thing or you have people saying "what the fuck is Gawker?". Schrier's just salty.

"Disagree with my tweet and that means.... y-you're a white male!"

Unfortunate that kotaku is staying.
It's funny how they would have to generalize their critics as white males even though there would be some non-white males and such criticizing Gawker.

Actually it's closing because of a meritorious lawsuit by a guy who has rights whether or not he's a celebrity, who brought a case before a jury who were justly appalled and disgusted by Gawker's deplorable conduct which had little to no "journalistic" merit whatsoever.

While I think it's quite possible it's reversed on appeal (or at least the inordinate damage award gets reduced), they really brought it on themselves.

Does this dipshit think Peter Thiel just wrote a check and suddenly there was a record-breaking ruling against Gawker, who dindu nuffin? Gawker not only fucked up in the first place, but they brought the same sneering, elitist attitude into court, where they basically told the court to fuck off and openly defied court orders, and acted like complete dicks in front of the jury.

PROTIP: snarky, asshole defendants might not know this, but juries are people who have quite often been taken out of their lives and suffered significant hardship to be there. Every minute they spend watching your shitty antics is a minute they're not at their job making money, or with their families. Instead, they're listening to your shit.

If you spend the time they've been dragooned into watching you acting like an entitled little bitch too good to be there, don't be surprised when they are entirely deaf to your pleas for mercy once the shit comes down hard on you and instead sympathize with the plaintiff who hasn't treated them like shit.

So how much of the sales proceeds goes right into Nick's pocket? I'd take it that the people affected by his bullshit would have some comfort knowing that the amount owed to Hulk would put Nick too far into the red for him to get any capital to start another media business.

Probably nothing. The purpose of the sale is to pay The Hulk.

Kotaku reviewer. Fun fact, he threw a fit about Dragon's Crown's buxom character, claimed it appeals to lolicon (I don't think he understands what that word means) and indirectly insulted the artist.

Well if he's out of a job soon do you think his own lolcow thread would pan out?

Sharpen the headsman's axe, kiwis, because it's time for an old fashioned execution. Gawker is, 100%, dying because of bad choices. Everyone forgets in their mad rush to call Thiel the next Hitler, or the killer of a free press, that there were at least half a dozen bastards behind Hogan all with lawsuits of their own-some of them were even former employees. It's just the fact that they had the audacity to ignore a court order that allowed Thiel to jump in as heavily as he did, but Thiel had a vendetta the size of the moon. If any of those lawsuits after Hogan's had taken root and flourished, you can bet your last dollar we'd see Thiel having teamed up with them instead.

ANd he'd still be demonized as the "Guy who killed Gawker for no good reason! Gawker dindu nuffin!!!!"

IIRC, Hulk wasn't even the strongest case. Amazingly enough, there was someone else who had an even STRONGER case but decided to let it go because they thought it wasn't worth it. I hope that person was as rich as Thiel because $135M is not pocket change.
