US Gen Z doesn't love the US like boomers do. That doesn't bode well for our future. - Along with the decline in patriotism, young Americans view capitalism − the driving force behind the U.S. economy − in a much less rosy light than older generations.

It’s a common refrain: You defend what you love. Yet, you cannot love what you don’t know.

That disconnect is leading to alarming trends in American culture. A recent Gallup poll found that patriotism among young adults ages is now at a record low, after declining for the past 10 years.

Age, along with political party, are the biggest determining factors in how Americans feel about the country. Republicans at 60% are twice as likely as Democrats (29%) to say they have a robust pride in the United States.

Discrepancies in national pride are even more pronounced among different age groups. According to Gallup: “Whereas 50% of U.S. adults aged 55 and older say they are extremely proud to be American, 40% of those aged 35 to 54 and 18% of 18- to 34-year-olds say the same.”

According to Gallup in June 2023: "Whereas 50% of U.S. adults aged 55 and older say they are extremely proud to be American, 40% of those aged 35 to 54 and 18% of 18- to 34-year-olds say the same." Matt Rourke/AP

Is Gen Z proud to be American?

Generation Z, born from 1997 to 2012 and an increasingly important voting bloc, is more liberal than other generations, even at similar ages. That seems to play into young people’s pride, or lack of it, in America.

This is part of a broader national trend. A decade ago, 85% of adults said they were "extremely" or "very" proud to be an American. Today, that's dropped by nearly 20 percentage points to 67%.

That’s a huge change. What’s going on?

Along with the decline in patriotism, young Americans view capitalism − the driving force behind the U.S. economy − in a much less rosy light than older generations.

A 2021 poll from Axios and Momentive found that 18- to 34-year-olds were split pretty evenly between those who viewed capitalism positively (49%) and negatively (46%). Just two years earlier, however, the margin was much larger: 58% viewed capitalism favorably; 38% did not.

Gen Z harbors especially negative feelings about capitalism, with 54% having a negative view and just 42% having a positive view.

It seems the message that progressive Democrats are peddling about the "evils" of capitalism is resonating with this new generation.

Even President Joe Biden has allowed himself to be pulled further to the left when it comes to higher taxes and government intrusion into the marketplace. Biden calls it “Bidenomics,” and it’s antithetical to the free-market capitalism that has made America the most prosperous country in the world.

Gen Z appears to embrace much more of the “Nordic model,” which centers on high taxes and a large government-provided welfare system.

The generation content with “lazy girl jobs” also has been swayed by promises that the government will take care of them. Biden’s messaging about student loan cancellation, for example, has been targeted directly at Gen Z.

And they’re buying it.

It all starts in our schools

There’s a reason K-12 education has become such a flashpoint in American politics. It's where, after all, the nation’s young people learn about this nation they call home.

Maybe they aren’t learning enough.

The latest crop of national civics and U.S. history scores show continued declines for eighth graders. Learning disruption during the COVID-19 pandemic is to blame for some of the drops in proficiency, but certainly not all of it.

History scores have been on the decline for a decade; civics scores had largely stayed flat until now.

Conservatives and liberals have very different ideas about how history and civics should be taught and what should be prioritized. These scores highlight that students at the very least need to learn more.

We can’t blame young people for not loving and defending a system they don’t understand – and one they've been taught is deeply flawed in major ways.

For Americans who love this country and want to preserve its freedoms and opportunity, these polls should serve as a clarion call.

That 'free market capitalism' led to globalization because shitheads like you wanted cheap labour, materials, and crops. You happily sent all the manufacturing overseas so that your teenagers couldn't have strong summer jobs that would at least give them a head start for college/university. Instead, they have to work fast food jobs well into their 30s, along with two other jobs, to keep a roof over their head while boomers piss away their inheritance and inherited property so they can go on another vacation to Europe.

Mass immigration brings cheap labour, which means native students have to become more specialized to make those fancy machines to keep them alive. That means an average debt - if you are in the medical field - of well over $250k, NOT including interest (then it gets up to $450k and above). Boomers fucking hate debt forgiveness for that because they both a three bedroom, three story house with the money from their paper route as a kid, while their grandkids don't even have retirement savings plans thought out, let alone money for a savings account in general.

God I fucking hate these boomer-lite, conservative "we just need free trade/open markets!' bullshit. Bring back your own shit, make your own shit, and maybe China wouldn't have ownership of over 90% of our fucking supply.
Oh, gee, what a shocker. Unmitigated immigration, the erosion of American culture, worship of Israel, black people, and troons, straight up teaching these kids that America is a horrible racist place that you should be shamed of, and on top of that shitty politicians fucking the economy into the shitter erodes trust in the system?
How could anyone foresee this? It pisses me off even more that the major concern here is that there will be less mindless consumers and workers. There's no benefit to that kind of shit in a deeply ill society.
The 'Act Your Wage' movement on TikTok is one I support. The more Zoomers and Millennials who come to hate boomers, the better. BlackRock and all the other investment firms own all the house, and THEY get bailed out all the time. Plus, only half the country is now white. That's going to bode well for your infrastructure, since that side of the Bell Curve is the only one that knows how to keep it up.
People who are still suffering from the can kick bank bailouts who are staring down never owning anything are less enamoured woth the system than the people who bought a house, car and supported a family on an entry level job. What a surprise.
"You need to shut up and work hard, I did, that's why I was able to buy a big-ass house for the price of a VCR in my day" - Boomers

when you take out inflation, the boomers' low wages in wageslave jobs were in actuality six figures in today's money
these faggots were paid more than you ever were but pretend like they had it rough

No shit, they don't have Healthcare, living wages, or housing that's actually affordable and half the population in half the US has less rights to their own body than when they were born. If boomers want younger people to love the US, they need to stop making it such a shithole.
I too am disgusted with how people lost their jobs due to not taking the wuflu shot.

One of my dad's friends died recently and the widow invited my dad over for drinks and my dad invited me as his +1 since they were old family friends and her sons played with me as a child. Said widow spend the entire fucking time shitting all over her sons for working retail jobs into their late 20's instead of going to college (which she refused to pay for despite being upper middle class) and she made her sons live in the garage instead of the main house and bitched that they didn't contribute to the electric bill despite receiving a multi million dollar insurance payout from her husband's death.

It's genuinely shocking we don't see more people murdering their shithead boomer parents. A more worthless, sociopathic, selfish, and wasteful generation does not exist.

Yea no fucking shit no one cares, would you if you were treated like this?

No fucking shit. The nation is happy to sacrifice its own for the benefit of a rootless international clique who happens to have nefarious plans for everyone who isn't born with a silver spoon in their mouths.

Medicine is fucked, schools are fucked (public and private), entertainment is fucked, and the ability to procreate and start a family is completely fucked. Its why the average American see a commonality with the Taliban instead of the average ZOGbot.

I'm in a position where I might go to college late because my parents couldn't afford to send me to one. When you have well to do parents, like the kids I grew up with, you pretty have much of the debt cared for. If you are a working class or low income kid that's not a total spastic or retard, you have to handle all the debt, house and college, yourself. These same Boomer parents refuse to help their kids or have an inkling of empathy for them. As stated before, they react so fucking strongly to debt forgiveness because, to them, them being inconvenienced is more important. "I paid off my debt!" they shriek. Yeah, and your debt was still around $10k with inflation. Ours is in the six figures.

It is kinda funny really. I can’t imagine why kids despise home so much. Day be like this for kids in High School —-

History 101: Slavery

History 102: Slavery, again.

History 103: Native Americans and genocide (but why they kinda deserved broken treaties unlike black people who are perfect)

History 104: Capitalism and why it caused 19997 million deaths.

History 105: Women’s sufferage and why men are the worlds greatest monsters.

Social club: Gay history and stonewall. Why a black troon being violent is good.

Biology: Dangerous masculinity and gender blurred.

PE: Lizzo inspired dance class

English: The color purple.

Math: Canceled because too hard.

Go home -> Watch John Oliver call Americans obese tards and view tweens have oppression Olympics on social media.
You forgot English class having holocaust month every year where we get around and read Anne Frank, French class showing The Boy in Striped Pyjamas and the anti bullying campaign that brings up Anne Frank for no reason.

People keep bringing political reasons for this, but I personally think it's just because the majority of them are just apathetic to life in general. I don't think I need to remind people on here how many Zoomer males are content with rotting in their apartments.

Don't love the USA like Boomers do? Or like Boomers did?

Slight power level: I suppose I'm a Boomer.

I loved the USA without being stupidly uncritical of the many problems.
But I am completely disillusioned with it now.

It's not a hankering for some mythical good old days, either.
The 1970s? The "Malaise Era"? I would not go back if I could.

My disillusion is very retroactive.
I was especially a super patriot after 9-11, but I was wrong wrong wrong.

Better stop now before I start screaming and scare the neighbors. :)

They are right to hate this dystopic shithole of a country, but for the very opposite reasons they suppose. Just some of the horrible things fir which I am ashamed to be an American:

- coca-cola, McDonald's, goyslop
- rap music and other elements of a subversive culture that celebrates and deifies the b,ack undertow
- evisceration of the middle class
- simulatneously hyper pornographic who,e stubbornly clinging to certain puritanical hangups (eg can't drink a beer til 21).
- a century of war mongering that somehiw palwmd off with the ridiculous veneer of American exceptionalism.

Pretty every social vol they threatens the West is a product if this country and tis agenda and ideological underpinnings. Single motherhood, no fault divorce, miscegenation, the Great Replacement, you name it.

God Bless America? NO! GOD DAMN AMERICA!

I'm in the position where I'll have to go to college again because I couldn't find a bloody job with my first degree. I blame visa fraud and shitskins clogging up the IT field.

Learn a trade. Any job that can be outsourced to a third world shithole for pennies on the dollar will be.
