It doesn't have to be toxic, I generally play in my own sandbox with weirdos like me and it's a good time. When you actively think what you want should effect what a creator (or another person) does, that crosses a line for me. As far as Vtubers go, some of them encourage ships and all that jazz. The veneer of fiction makes it easier, maybe?

That was an iFunny account IIRC, not an Instagram account. But yes, she did clarify it on Twitter.
