Basically I think just the scope of the big companies in terms of # of talents, the limited amount of riggers available above a certain skill level, and the desire to maintain a somewhat even level of quality across the company. All create a situation where the big companies will move somewhat slower, pushing out updates through the companies from time to time because it's logistically difficult to move the entire company forward to keep the cutting edge of quality not to mention the price.

Whereas Indies, if they have cash to work with don't have all those added layers of complexity and can hop forward as their wallet and desire allows.

tis the downfall of keeping some riggers on a retainer like basis. And independent/non corpo affiliated riggers probably do a great job mostly as this is their way of putting their resume out there
