Watching clips from Aki's birthday and I really don't get why she isn't popular at least for her design or music. She isn't spectacular like Suisei or particularly unique like Haachama, but her design is cute, she can sing well, and she seems pretty nice. I haven't seen much of her content but she seems like she'd stand out. Maybe it's just the rest of Gen 1 was so big I guess.

She had a hiatus early on due to being in a car accident that put a dent in her algorithmic ranking. I'd also say her most unique talents aren't ones that pop up as often in the normal streaming environment; she's the best dancer and arguably best stage performer (except maybe Sora), which only show up in the rare 3D streams. She's a good singer, but a lot of her song style choices aren't the most fashionable ones; she likes oldies and enka, and Shallys is a niche style. Shallys is one of the most original songs in Hololive, and probably the one with the most involvement by the talent, up to and including developing the language the song is sung in.

Japan JUST reopened for tourism like last week, but business in March. Not sure about specifics, but I am guessing they still have to wait on passports. Those are usually the longest part of the process.

You can get a passport even with no immediate or future travel plans. The minute they were hired by a JP company they should have already been applying for them, not much excuse for waiting.

Her design is the weakest part for me, actually, just not a big fan of the "separated hair" thing. Also, her default outfit has that flared dress -- I'm no dance expert, but the dress being so wide kinda obscures her hip movements, which I think may not be ideal for her dancing style.

Everything about Akirose, the person behind the model, is great though. Strong skills in all relevant areas.

Pina's doing an endurance to 20K subs, she's at 19,945 but it's slow going. I started watching at 19,937 so not sure how many she started the stream with, but she's on hour 4 already.
Of course, pity subs are no good for anyone, so what's important are her selling points:
