Well, it depends. You've got your Nerissas and Rushias out there, really leaning into that whole girlfriend experience thing, right? They're selling it hard. But then you've got these Unicorns, bless their hearts, who see any basic decency from the opposite sex and think, 'Well, this must be love!' Whether it's because of mental illness or just not having a lot of human interaction, they're getting tangled up in these one-sided relationships. It's like they're mixing up the script for a rom-com with real life, and let me tell you, that rarely ends well.
At that point, it's a lose-lose situation because these types are the whales of the industry and the streamers have to maintain some sort of professionalism unless they want to make the rounds and make themselves and their Corp look bad.

GFE/BFE is the pornstar/drug dealer of vtubing. Sure there's a lucrative market for it, but it's also extremely hard to back out of it once the performer feels "done" with it.

I'm sorry what? Kronii has never been GFE. I don't know how anyone can think she's even remotely interested in anyone. If anything, she seems asexual, or at the very least lesbian leaning. And honestly, her streams with Vesper were fucking hilarious.
I understand why people get parasocial, but the real way you should be viewing vtubers is the same way you view actors/actresses. They are playing a role. That role is designed to entertain. If they entertain you, and you feel they should be rewarded for the entertainment given to you, then toss them a few bucks every now and then. You will never know them personally. You will never know a celebrity or voice actor or anyone else of the sort, so don't pretend this is different. It's not. Hell, I'd say one could take a lesson from watching cows: Look, but don't touch. If you try to actually personally get to know a cow, you end up like Null. Don't be Null. Vtubers are entertainment. Treat them as such. It's not hard.
I do agree somewhat with Pippa though: While I think GFE is stupid as shit, if you go out of your way to attract such people, you better fucking commit to the bit, because otherwise you're literally scamming people. Yeah, GFE is a scam in general, but so long as the person is actually providing a service by playing the part, it IS an exchange, even if it's a fucking pathetic one. That's partially why I think Yuko is a scumbag and I have issues with Gura keeping membership open while she fucks off to god know's where. Yeah, idiots and their money are easily parted, but you don't need to go out of your way to take it from them. That's scummy behavior, period.
