"real job" is a boomer meme, nothing you do for money is more "real" just because you work yourself to death at a factory line or construction site. they earn money and pay taxes, you literally can't get more productive and integrating into society unless it veers of into MUH VALUE spergery.
as for never getting better, I always say parasocial works both ways. there's a big difference sitting at home in your own head thinking no one gives a shit, and then having an extended circle of people who enjoy your personality and in some form care about you to the point they're willing to give you money for it as entertainment. compare pippa back then and now, or any of the other ones.
society is also constantly changing. 100 years ago without TV or radio some also made money by not having a "real" job, and people found their entertainment elsewhere. there's not a big difference between watching a vtuber and go to a theater or cabaret to watch someone sing or their other antics (besides the former you can do in your underpants conveniently from home). people have been paying money for someone to perform for literal millennia, only the form changed according to technology and with it opportunities/setbacks (imagine being a live-performer when TVs or radio became popular) like it always does.
But that's why like I said at first, Japan's a cool place to visit when you don't have to actually participate in a lot of the societal bullshit they put on their own people.
except that's the same everywhere. are there people delusional enough to think there are absolutely no downsides to something? absolutely, just like there are people thinking their oshi is really in love with them. everyone else knows and accepts in reality you can't have good without bad and vice versa.
however, we're at a point where lot of the west can't even hide the rot in their prime tourist areas. have you visited SF, london or the eiffel tower recently? the more shit something gets the more people want "out" and long for something "better", especially if you're old enough to remember it wasn't like that just 15-20 years ago.
regarding the rest, the same applies here as well. seeing some middle-aged guy stacking shelves at walmart or flipping burgers won't make anyone think dude has a successful career and satisfying life, same as being a hikki-neet and having to endure any shitty job they can get to make ends meet. normalfags aren't right- (or leftwing), they just want someone mildly attractive to fuck and somewhat safe areas to raise kids, which of course makes japan looks more attractive right now by simple comparison. same way vtubers are better entertainment for a lot of people now than whatever shit they can find in hollywood (I mean we're sitting in this thread for a reason), but calling that "right-wing idolization" would be more than a stretch.
