General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

Although I recently also heard of "Yozakura Tama" - already retired by then.
Yozakura Tama, now that one of the more rarer events a western fan would recall in history of vtuber controversy. It was a big one too and it still haunts to this day with her current reincarnation. Kusunoki Sio goes into indefinite leave (surely retired) because of a leaked post on note.

When will people stop getting invested in Chinese gaming? The Chinese are pretty much the reason so many companies are suckling the cocks of mobile gaming and ignoring real gaming.

What kind of controversy?
Take it with a grain of salt because I don't know the full exact detail of the situation but iirc around 2018 she was having her company (idolbu) not being able to pay her enough to get her 3D stream for her viewers. It lead to a series of events where and another vtuber got banished by the company, all the while someone was leaking the internal problems of that company. Now fast forward to 2020 where she reincarnated herself as Kusunoki Sio and getting successful streams with her mahjong soul streams being her major selling point as she's good at winning multiple matches at a time and also getting a 3D stream as an indie to make a middle finger statement to her previous company she was working with.

Last September, a new controversy pop up and I would post the summary made by an anon on the virtual youtubers thread on /jp/
-A few weeks ago some 5ch autist found a bunch of post by a single IP starting with EC that leaked a tons of shit about not only the Idol-bu but various other vtubers and insulted basically everyone that Sio worked with

-That person also wrote a lot of information that only Sio could know and even posted some screenshot of the idol-bu discord

-The 5ch autists checked the IP and realized that it was posted from the same region Sio live in so a shitstorm happened

But obviously that's not a proof so a lot of people thought it was just the 5ch autists going full paranoia and the shitstorm calmed quickly

Now you'd think that would be the end of it
But something just happened

Sio wrote a post on Note saying she would use legal actions against anyone who participated in that shitstorm
Obviously, that's a normal thing to do

But what she didn't know and this is where it gets really funny, is that Note and 5ch are linked and you can see the IP of the one who post on Note
And lo and behold it's THE SAME FUCKING IP THAT LEAKED ALL THESE THINGS ON 5ch
Matsuri has some fucking honkers, if this suspiciously similar sounding lass as shown in this video is her. apologies if this was already posted

I wish she'd come back, though that is very unlikely now.

Anime girl showing that a portion of her fans come from the island of Formosa is enough to “undermine national unity”.

And I thought that SJWs were thin-skinned.
Short version: it goes way back to when the CCP was established and the leaders at the time fled to Taiwan before the institution of Chairman Mao. Taiwan regards mainland China as currently being under a coup while China regards Taiwan as a rebellious nation attempting to seize power. There's a lot more involved but China hates Taiwan while Taiwan just thinks China is a joke.

I know but it is hilarious that the mere mention of Taiwan in any setting harms the national unity of the CCP. I get why an authoritian government would view something like June 4 1989 as a topic that would undermine national unity (read as the legitimacy of the communist government in the eyes of the people), but the mention of an island? Fragile China indeed.

The harassment campaign is only indirectly the CCP's fault. It's not the CCP that's crashing down on Hololive right now. It's the bunch of hyper-patriotic bugmen who pushed too hard for the fifth time over a big nothingburger, so their e-GFs (and friend) have left them for good, and now they're lashing out on the internet in the way that only a socially-inept ex can do.

The CCP does share some responsibility for their hard-line hegemony, but Hololive is probably barely even on the government's radar.

They were a foreign company operating in China, there's some political officer with a file on them somewhere.

I see the Muse Dash thing is under discussion. Holostar's Roberu at the time of posting this has his Muse Dash archives still up. Hell, even Fubuki still has her archives up? Some other oddities is timing, as this happened after Haato streamed Muse Dash. The official Muse Dash Twitter is not following Fubuki either, despite having Liked and Retweeted her in the past. The message on NGA about Muse Dash came from a publisher, which backs up the devs stating it's nothing to do with them. So this'll be interesting, I smell some gayops to try and force statements and stands, but as for who and what statements? I'd conjecture Chinese are forcing the hands of a company that loves Hololive and possibly trying to force Cover to make a statement about HoloCN and their operations in China, seeing as they're evidently not banned by the CCP if they can land a deal with TikTok.
