On a related note, it's horrifying to think that one day some reddit tier Westerner might recognize one of the girls like Pekora or Marine in public by their voice and bother them.
Could you imagine some pasty neckbeard running up to you and freaking out in a language you barely understand like an autistic paparazzi?

Marine has a bit of a fake voice that she puts on for her character, doesn't she? I don't think she talks like that IRL. Pekora, I think, doesn't have much of a fake voice aside from the "peko" tics, but the volume of it would probably be extremely disconnected from her character. The stories of her IRL meetups with Marine and other holos make it sound like she mumbles if she talks at all, which fits with her extreme introversion. In fact, I think most of them have a bit of a character voice. Some more than others. Even those without, I think it would be pretty hard to recognize them just in passing in a store or something--especially for people who don't speak Japanese.

I'd be far more worried about a targeted stalker who already knows in advance that someone is a holo.

Wouldn't that require Pekora to actually leave her room (and, subsequently, her house) often enough for someone to actually be able to identify her out in public in the first place?

Does Hololive have a public facing address for their offices? If they record their 3D stuff onsite I can't believe they haven't had issues with stalkers staking out the HQ already.

They have it but barring apocalyptic disasters like Aloe they are not a problem, incels are not exactly know to be proactive in their dumb plans

I might come back and edit these in later but some people from a discord group had clued me into a few episodes of a podcast Karen was in and she goes into a bit of detail about her formative years and they are...terribly enlightening. They may have been posted here already but if not I'll throw them up. Listening to a lot of her music and hearing stories about her past, yeah...homegirl had it rough and it's no wonder she fucked off to Japan.

Long story short, she went to a Catholic school where pretty much the kids whose families were the biggest donors could get away with murder and she was their target, basically being bullied so hard and called straight up unfuckable that she blocked most of her memories of that place out.

In regards to the mobile game, it's a turn based RPG. Princess Connect is the original game and this is a mobile version.

At this point Artemis is just throwing money for clout. She showed up during a Calliope T2 stream just to drop a red superchat. Of course Calli got excited, she's still a bit too much of a dumb kid to not realize Artemis' game.

It's one thing to recognize a celebrity in public. It's another thing altogether where part of their shtick is anonymity by acting through a virtual avatar. I know that in dealing with celebrities in public, my thought has always been to either leave them alone, or just treat them like a regular fucking human beings. They deal with enough bullshit in their lives I can at least keep the amount of idiotic fans they deal with to a lower amount. I would NEVER consider trying to deal with a Vtuber or someone like that in public unless they talked to me for a while, and they somehow broached the subject first.

I think she's absolutely using a fake voice to some degree, though her volume does play a huge part in it. From the clip below of her winning Fall Guys for the first time, she says "yokatta" rather quietly. That's about the closest I think we've gotten to hearing real Peko voice. Timestamped.

It's interesting how the talents approach it, because you absolutely have a spectrum running from A) Someone like Calli, who just doesn't bother changing her voice at all from how it sounds naturally, to B) Someone like Polka, who modifies her voice so damn much you'd be bound to hear some variant of it out in public.

Edit: Forgot this video. This is probably the closest I assume we have to "natural" Polka voice. And the clip that really made me start paying attention to her.

Useful list. Most of these people, I've never heard of. I tend to avoid most of the amateur Vtuber scene anyway.

And I do mean "amateur." There is a large amount of professionalism that nearly all of the English-speaking streamers I've seen lack. I'll give Ironmouse a pass because she actually maintains a very professional attitude, even if she can't rein in her fans and/or seize control of her Discord away from a control-freak clique. Melody is just dumb as a brick but I think she's well-intentioned so her amateurishness is actually part of the appeal. The rest, though, are incapable of suppressing the drama and acting even remotely professionally.

I thought this looked like fun and went to buy it. It's been a long time since I've played a Trials game but I've had a lot of fun with one of them (can't recall which) back in the day. Fortunately I tried the demo first… It's almost there, but they've done a lot of stuff involving having gimmicks on the tracks where pieces are flying in various directions and sometimes stuff gets in the way of the camera or the camera points at an odd angle, or the track is curved such that from the perspective of the rider, he'd have to be turning left or right to stay on the track… I don't know, it just felt like that feeling of having the obstacles visible in front of you and you just needing to get the inputs right to succeed is gone a bit because of all the gimmicks and morphing tracks. That, and each track starts with four ghost bikers who start along with you, and you get graded at the end for where you placed in comparison to them. Sure, playing for speed is one way to play, but I always preferred to try to do unnecessary backflips and stuff off of the ramps while still landing perfectly. That slowed me down enough that I'd always get last place when I did that, though. It felt like the game was judging the way I was having fun and finding it lacking. Then there's just the long load times and texture pop-in and stuff that just left it feeling a little unpolished. Like in the UI there's this smoke animation that covers the screen as a transition sometimes, but it's very clearly just an animation that is half a screen wide and mirrored vertically. Why? Can today's gaming hardware not powerful to fill a whole screen with a smoke effect (or a pre-rendered video thereof)?

What a disappointment. I'm glad I had the sense to try the demo before buying, because even at the price it's currently on sale for I would have been kinda angry if I bought it in the state it's in.

Granted, my calculus might be a bit different if I'm a streamer with an audience interested in watching me play goofy games rather than a thirtysomething loser in his bedroom.

I think you’re right, Rising is definitely weaker than their older games (and it’s up to its eyeballs in Ubisoft‘s microtransaction bullshit - the fact that neither Botan nor Pekora could even find the actual campaign start without chat’s help demonstrates that).

That said, the concept of Trials is amazing, and if it was the first Trials game I’d played instead of the fifth, I’d probably love it a lot more too. It’s also really fun watching them actually improve, though it gives me serious OCD watching them use checkpoint warp rather than restart tracks. Like, that an extra 2 seconds on your time!

And I do like that the game actually has a real tutorial rather than just making you figure out things like bunny hops yourself.

Which is HILARIOUS because out of all the places I go to for Vtuber discussion, I'd say this is the best/most productive one. It's not filled with hateboner antis, and it's not such a hugbox that all we can do is tug off YAGOO non-stop to show how big a fan we are. And the reputation the Farms maintains for damn near every other resources keeps the basket cases away too.

Speaking of trying to "show off" how big of a fan people are, that reminds me of one person who literally thought to make a Tweet, @ing people like Marine and some other Vtubers, just to talk about how less of a degenerate they are than some random people in DM's on Discord and Twitter groups who were basically talking about how much they'd want to lewd the Vtubers in question. Then the person @'s that one guy, Koefficient, to talk about simping, and uses the word simp as if it's some title to be proud of.

There's trying to get the attention of Yagoo, then there's trying to get the attention of the Vtubers in question by doing the typical "I'm such a nice guy" tweet, while @ing said Vtubers. As if they somehow will understand a giant wall of Tweets in a language they don't fully grasp.

Reminds me of the time I saw people in a Youtube video showing Rushia making those moans in Ring Fit Adventure, trying to white knight for her in a translated clip from people making jokes about it.

I think a ways back it was mentioned that Marine's manager told her to be quieter in public to avoid getting recognized. How true that is I couldn't say, unless there's a clip of Marine herself saying it.

She does seem to leave occasionally as she's mentioned using the trains before and recently talked about going out with her mom. Not to mention that she has to leave the house to go do anything in 3D. I would think that her voice is by far recognizable enough that anyone who knew her persona would be able to recognize her if they heard it. The issue would be if she speaks to literally anyone while out.

It would be really funny if some random ticket operator for the trains was a fan and recognized her by voice but has been keeping it secret all this time.
