General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

I mean Kiara’s literally half-Japanese, she was probably taught it by her parent as a kid.

And seconded on immersion being the real teacher. Like no shit you still have to put in some initiative and study a bit, but self-study + immersion (or even just having a native speaker to converse with on a regular basis) will get you functionally fluent (like.. able to read and hold basic conversations) with less time and effort.

If anything, the bigger issue to immersion is that smartphones and the Internet allows people to live in a city like Tokyo with zero knowledge of Japanese, since you can just order shit on Amazon and use Google Maps for directions.
Keeki's Nico profile explicitly says she's neither half nor quarter but pure Austrian.

16 month duration with almost 8 hours of classes per day (!) plus homework, he said, to be able at the end to skim through a japanese newspaper.

Let's also think. Without teachers, you are basically doubling/tripling your workload. You not only have to learn, but have to investigate on what to learn and how to advance so as not to stagnate and also correct your mistakes. That's much more work. And your time will be a lot less productive.

Let's say you self study 2 hours a day (reasonable pace) People in the equivalent intensive courses are doing 6 a day WITH teachers to guide them. And it still takes about a year and a half to be able to read well. So yeah, it's not an "easy" task to learn a foreign language. Especially on your own. Especially as a previous unilingual. I don't think Mori is lazy. It's just that the task is very hard. I'd say as a serious self-study goal, 5-6 years for an N2 is pretty reasonable.
Japanese is stupidly complex but I think the pure ineffiency of Japanese curriculum is a significant factor as well. A good read nonetheless.

I gotta say though, apparently Karen used to teach English there. How'd she communicate at first? Wonder if she's a fast learner and stagnated or really gone to a country and a job where she could barely speak a word to a goddamn kid. Seems right on brand.

You don't have to know the native language for those jobs. All the lessons you do are in English. That's how they get native English speakers to go overseas and teach for cheap.

On topic of Gigguk, he's not retarded
his opinions on mecha anime are retarded and it gets funnier every day how stupid he was

Marine complained that she paid for an english course and her teacher wasnt really able to speak any japanese so it was useless when she needed help

On topic of Gigguk, and i'll be as unbiased as possible here.

He's done it right. His content is basically what 70-80% of weebs are thinking when something new in the "anime realm" comes along. A few recent examples include Vtubers, Gacha games, and popular anime.

He then condenses his thoughts in a 10-15 minute video and those 75% who watch it will like it (and 99% of his already established audience). It's incredibly predictable and sometimes average.

But it works.

There's a good reason he's the biggest anituber. Plus, he's not retarded and knows how to out himself publicly. Cringe? yeah but that's non-argument. Everyone with a name is cringe sometimes. Also he's racking cash and gaining those subs.

Now back to my biased opinions:

Every comment I read here criticising him just reeks envy. If this guy isn't to your liking keep it to yourself coz it's a losing battle. This digga is a good lad. Sure he's a sellout to a bunch of crap and his content ain't a gold mine but he's making it big regardless.
>Y-Y-You're all just envious of him!!!1!

3 stooges collab just started
I cant possibly think of a more boring game to play than a Mario game so I'm just sitting this one out. Not to mention Gura's chat is always cringe and unreadable.
I actually watched pretty much most of this stream and honestly it was great fun to watch even it being a Mario game. I was more watching it for the 3 of them just being silly and having fun, them as a 3 don't collab that often now.

Marine paid for an Eikaiwa, which is a conversational school. If you are advanced or a little less, you can benefit greatly. But at this point she isn't good enough, and should start learning the old fashioned way. Basic vocab, simple past, present and future tense. Simple variations. If there's one person that'd benefit from taking an English intensive course, it'd be her, but I doubt she has the 4-6 hours a day required. Basic work is very boring, but necessary to get to the fun stuff.

I dunno man about the inefficiency. I mentioned two different institutions (Yamasa and US army language course) and I know another institute that I won't mention for privacy. It also has a 2 year, 4 hours a day, 5 days a week schedule. They all seem to be on the same ballpark, and I don't think it's just inefficiency. Those courses are expensive and are meant for people who want to be speaking fast.

Still, for some reason, people always get pissed off and start mentioning shortcuts when others say that something is very hard and would take long. I bet if I went into a mountaineering forum and said "You need to be a experienced climber to climb the K2" someone would reply "Nah man, just watch some intro vids, run in the mornings and do a 5 week course at your local park. My cousin did it that way."

lol, and to be honest, in this COVID world economy the best we can hope for in 5 years of work is getting promoted from casheer to local manager, so what's the problem with something taking time?

I always knew that if anyone is to bring the end of HoloEN, it will be these two.
What is it with anime English dub VAs always being the Twitter virtue signaling types? Anyway we already knew Kiara was plastering the same type of shit on her personal Twitter. As long as they’re smart enough to keep it far away from their jobs.

But if this nobody wants to start screaming for trans rights mid-collab, that’d be fun too

Wait, the shark really asked? I though she was joking
Then maybe there is some hope for the Nacho collab
I'm glad you believed, me of the past
Thats curious because that reminds me that Anya confirmed that the one who set up the Saturday DBD collab was in fact Risu, i don't know why she wants to play a game she only played one time on stream.
There were. I think he was the last one.
I remember the guy in this thread that didn't believe that Kiara was Keekihime, it was funny.

But don't you see that's exactly why he is disliked. Gigguk is his audience and his audience is Gigguk. And nobody likes those gacha gaming, youtube comment role-playing, loli, incest, futa loving weebs. Unless you are one yourself.
