The interface is a pretty huge filter for most people. I doubt Gura would get into it too much. At least not that version. Isn't there some graphical UI version coming out on Steam someday?

No, it's the theme. The whole "I'm abusing you" thing. Part of a pattern that Mori's been leaning into more recently, and some other vtubers I like as well. I'm aware that there's a market for that, and I guess there are good reasons for popular creators to have some negativity toward their fans that they want to express.

But I don't know. Whenever a vtuber starts with the whole, "Tee hee, I'm gonna bully you! I'm gonna torture you! I'm gonna murder you!" thing, I just can't enjoy it. I've tried. It only pisses me off. It's like their expressing contempt for you FOR supporting them. Streamers like Gura and Ina who don't do that create a much better experience for me.

Hey, if you like that kind of thing that's fine. No offense intended. But I don't, and if it keeps getting more popular I might need to limit my vtuber consumption. Move on to something else.

I've been watching Diya's clip here, gotten through her discussion of the first verse, and I've got to say Mori is describing a much more complex emotional situation than I perceived initially just from the song.

Oh there's definitely contempt for the fans here, and I think she is understating that. They're characterized as ants to be stepped on, etc. But it's a contempt rooted in self-contempt.

It makes sense. Let's say I have a low opinion of myself. What does that say about the people who like me? They must be dumb, or deluded, or masochistic to put up with me. So the contempt for others in the song is sort of a roundabout way to express a self-contempt which she knows to be unreasonable.

I still don't like it. If being a fan of someone means being characterized as an abuse victim, even if it's under several layers of metaphor and apologetic lampshading, then people like me can't be fans despite otherwise respecting the content. But there's definitely a lot more too it than I implied in my first post.

Man, so many things about Mori irritate me, but she's just so creatively skilled and so psychologically interesting that I just keep coming back.

It's so weird that we can think Korone is a wonderful and magical person with the secret power of granting happiness. Yet, people back in the days of NND bully and shit talked her roommate for not being the young, cute girl they wanted her to be. I can't help but think about this as a long time X-Potato.

Also, it's funny to think the power of nepotism managed to salvage her Vtuber career by basically poaching her from Up8.
