General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

One note: I could be mistaken, but I haven't actually seen Yagoo ever actually call Hololive specifically an "Idol" group, though there is obvious overlap. The AKB48 statement was only towards them being a vtuber company that would focus on groups, instead of the Kizuna Ai model that at the time was a single member. This misunderstanding is something they've been trying to clear up for awhile, as they really are an entertainment company, with lots of different media production and as we all know, very few of the girls are what anyone would call an "Idol" in the traditional Japanese sense.

He doesn't need to: the girls refer to themselves as Idols in his stead. I've even heard most-if-not-all of the HoloMyth girls refer to themselves as such, so it's clear they weren't told that they'd be 'the same - but different'. Council haven't referred to themselves as Idols, which is probably why Hakos got away with instantly announcing that she's a massive HoloStars simp, but it's less to do with Cover clearing up misunderstandings and moreso them trying to change course now that they want to have their cake and eat it.

The fact remains that you don't make an all-female group of 50+ fucking members, all waist deep in kayfabe, if they weren't trying to sell themselves as Idols. Why they want to move away from that in EN is simply because the West care more about the entertainers, and have been the most vocal about letting HoloStars get more scraps of Hololive's lions' share.

The problem is that idol culture' is so deeply-engrained in Cover's business that just suddenly removing that label from one of your branches feels so forced and unnatural that it feels pointless to even try. The fans aren't going to treat them differently and I doubt they even want to. If Cover wanted to market them as non-idols they should have started with EN1, not their fucking V-Singer.

My completely unsubstantiated rrat is that the JP branch have been annoyed that their branch isn't the most popular in the company and want to strip the EN girls of their 'Idol Status' so at least they can just be considered a separate thing.

There's a rrat going around that NijiEN may be collabing with HoloID next week due to something Elira has said on stream and HoloID's constant engagement with them recently.
I'm scouring through Elira's membership stream to find what she said but it's a 4-hour Zatsudan.
I dont' recall that, but I did miss large chunks of the talk because of shit pulling me away from the vid. The one part I did catch though is they figured out why Elira's internet has been total garbage. Turns out, the ISP cables laid to her domicile were originally from the 1970's.

Though once again, ID proving to be the test kitchen for EN if this proves to be true. It's really dumb they don't let EN just do outside collabs. Calli's karaoke with Milky Queen was amazing, and I'd love to see more. Stuff like Pomu and Kiara are fans of each other. And watching a collab stream of them just, like, chatting and turbo nerding about Idols would be hilarious. That, and Selen could coach Watson in Apex. Also, stick Finana and Gura in a collab together. Mainly cause I want to see Gura try to deal with Finana's madness.
To me it feels like Gura has both decided it's impossible to tard wrangle her chat, and that she's gotten comfortable enough/everyone in Hololive is really friendly so she's trying to branch out and interact with more members, especially since like many of the EN girls, watched Hololive before joining .
Correct me if I've wrong, but I don't think I've ever seen her really TRY to tard wrangle her chat. I've seen Ame tear into the TeaMates tons of times, and not afraid to time/ban people. But in all of the times I've seen Sharky stream, I don't think I've seen her crack down at all. Especially after shit like that Among Us collab where they harrassed Iofi.

And honestly, I'd be fine with that. The whole "Idol" thing is way more of a Japanese cultural thing. Sure, there are some people that appreciate it outside of there. But I think the majority of people are in it for the persona of the streamer. Not the idol aspect of it.

Finally able to watch a few streams of the Council girls and DARN, Kronii and Mumei are fantastic. Definitely my favourite of the gen (Sana is a close third).

Also, happy that NijiEN finally opened memberships.

Edit: Had a shitty day, so should probably not sperg out more. Going to chill out and rewatch those Korone clips a few pages back.
when in doubt, DOOG helps. I find that if I either have a shitty day or start the day off with some kind of DOOG clip, I don't feel like blowing my brains out.

Agreed. 5 years of not clearing the air that the company is a talent agency and not an idol company will do that. Plus, when some of your talents are former idols or like you said, deep into the kayfabe... what did they expect the initial thoughts of Cover was gonna be? Not idols? wow

The thunk is more for the idea that JP is annoyed and wants the entire idol sthick to themselves. It's possible if say there was some kind of KPI or performance measurement (ie. sub numbers). I see it two ways, JP has more subs overall as a branch because they have that many talents under the branch. However, if you look at subs per talent EN takes the cake (well, the dum shark does the hard carry for that but semantics).

Also, Nene has made landfall on Reddit.

it looks like she's having fun

When people were spamming ASCII art of the word 'cock' she told chat she was sending "comedians" to the "funny farm." For the Gawr karaoke, she mentioned at the beginning that people had best behave on certain subjects (after someone called Gawr "edgy Gura," probably anticipating some HERposting) or she would take swift action.

But in general Gura's chat moves way too fast for her to pick up on most issues and still do her job of streaming, and 99% of things that do pop up would be off the screen in around a second (if slow mode is on, even faster if it isn't), buried under a mountain of emote spam and 'FEET'.

A-chan can say whatever she wants. The EN girls have adopted a Senpai-Kouhai relationship between each other and their other branches, other branches have adopted that for them, and not a single person would rather type out HoloCouncil over Gen 2.

This kind of stuff is so hardwired into V-Tubing and Hololive culture that I cannot wrap my head around why they want EN to be different.
Exactly, but the approach im getting is that Cover believe America is not ready to get into webonese idol culture... a thing that is stupid as shit because their main market are weebs and weebs in denial

Mori had to fight like hell to finally collab with an Indie and it took her 10 months to do a karaoke with someone she's previously worked with and is her best friend. It wasn't even like it was a gamble, it was just management being autistic for nearly a year.

In regards to the others: Selen and Ame might not go down well because Selen talks mad shit by nature and Ame might not vibe with that as well as Finana and Bonbon did. Gura is simply never collaborating outside of her branch and it'd be an unbelievable amount of pressure on Finana if that was to happen. If Gura was ever to collab with a Niji it'd have to be one of the softer ones like Pomu or Petra.

I think she would be just fine, I doubt she would get butthurt or anything, Ollie is the better option though, Both similar levels of chaotic and silly.
