He states that the "entire 1st page was insults" which is not true at all and implies there was more than 1 page when there is not. His justification of the lock is that it would take longer to individually remove posts than to start over "especially in long threads with dozens or hundreds of pages" the offending thread had but one page.

Context: over the last few months more and more threads have been getting locked for seemingly no reason. especially Covid threads. If a thread even mentions COVID it is either locked or banished to the COVID forum where it promptly dies from lack of posts. this has ticked users off. less and less is allowed to be said on the forum, and more and more is said to be "harmful" and against the code of conduct. Arfcom is a dying site anyway (literally when you look at its user base's age) but heavy handed mods are speeding it up very quickly.

its too bad, Its a good place to get inside info on new guns/industry drama. lots of connections have been made to that site in the last ~20 years.

I'm surprised that arfcom, of all places, is run by crypto-leftoids. I thought all the mods there were crusty old boomers and NRA Fudds.

I don't know how much I'd read into that. Brownells might be somewhat pozed, but if they're anything like other corporate owners of web forums they probably don't care what goes on at the forum so long as it's not an immediate legal liability for them. I doubt they even know who these mods are, someone on the site staff does all that.

Involving a major company with any level of public visibility will inevitably lead to a chilling effect on the culture of a community because of paranoia around the prospect of bad PR. In extreme cases, you may find that your corporate partners are not satisfied with just being meat-and-potatoes-PC-for-middle-class-normieness but are actively pushing a social agenda that always seems to come back to globohomo and licking the girlcock. If you think that is too contrived, just look at what has happened to the Microsoft-facing side of the open source world. No true talent to be found there, and shrieking men in dresses completely ruining git branches forever.

There's a certain amount of irony in finding more nuance, humor, and tech in just the two firearms megathreads here, than two pages of arfcom threads. We've definitely poached some of their best brains; though along with a few of the dim ones, bless their hearts.

This place reminds me a lot of arfcom back when it was still a BBS, and it wouldn't surprise me if a bunch of us from back then eventually landed on Kiwifarms. A couple of y'all sound so much like those guys, I might even put money on it, and I'm not a gambling man. It's too bad I forgot their usernames years ago, otherwise I'd ask; they were some pretty squared-away dudes.

I don’t know the exact percentage Brownells provides to InRange which is then split between Karl and Ian.

We sell rifles to brownells. The details of their licensing/endorsement agreement with Brownells is between them.

I’ll take Garand Thumb and Brandon Herrera over people like Karl any day of the week.

I think I've mentioned it before but at least for me, the point about watching Karl is that if you have nothing to do and you're eating something or you need background noise, he's usually the best channel for that. Sure his content can get repetitive, but he's charismatic enough to make it entertaining. If he was edgier and didn't worry about monetization I'd enjoy his stuff more though.

A lack of success comparable to his peers probably has something to do with it as well; maybe he should've thought better of going ad free, instead of virtue signaling for socialists & subversives.

I definitely get the vibe that he’s jealous of his peers, and that’s without seeing the direct jealousy that he seethes on his discord. Someone earlier on in this thread mentioned that when he heard about KentuckyBallistics’ accident, he went on a rant about safety instead of saying something nice and being grateful that the guy is alive. Karl definitely has very low self awareness or social thinking. Blunt to the point of assholeyness.

I'm sure he's a good guy, and I'm also sure he's got his shit squared away, and I'm also sure that he tones himself down for Youtube, (and I can't blame him for that honestly since it is what he does for a living) but I don't like his videos and I don't like him as a presenter.

Garand Thumb is so wooden I'm sure he showers with fipronil and boric acid just so he can keep the termites away. He's not terrible, and he doesn't strike me as inauthentic most of the time, but the man's acting and emoting makes Dave Bautista look like an Academy Award winner.

The reason I say "fake" is because he seems like he either is more reserved off camera and feels the need to "hype himself up" so to speak for his on camera presentation, or he's actually more animated off camera and has to tone it down when he's presenting. Either way I'd like to see him just be himself or at least act like he's being himself.

Look at Paul Harrel for instance. I love Paul. He's dry, boring, and pedantic to a fault, but the man feels genuine and so I'll sit down and watch the man for an hour even if I'm not particularly interested in what he's actually opining about. Of course I just generally like dry and academic lectures so I'm a bit of a weirdo but hey, hopefully you get what I'm saying.

If his seemingly good relations with other guntubers are any indication, I would be putting more money on him being more animated and witty off-camera and toning it down because he thinks he might get into trouble if he lets fly.
