General GunTuber thread

Here's my question to Ian, how come literally no other Big Gun channel bitches about this stuff? Brandon Herrera constantly makes videos involving full auto guns and edgy jokes, same with Admin, GarandThumb, and other Big names. Why is Ian the only one who has to paywall shit?
Leviathan group covers for those channels. These bigger creative networks have the resources and legal representation to actually get someone from YouTube on the phone.

Gun YouTube is full of cows, leftists spergs and military larping. Sword YouTube is just as bad if not worse. Thanks to all the British youtubers in the sword community. We see more Muslims doing nothing wrong with historical revisionism and current day and pro-Antifa larping. As well as Neo-pagan of both political extremes, Larping as Vikings because heavy metal and Disney marvel movies. The sword collecting community even has a Onlyfans culture with men simping to girls dressing up like Viking shield maidens or pirates. The mall weeb Katana stereotype very real and still a thing.

At what point is it fair to say the channel is dead, because we're clearly in the dying phase.

The main problem is one of, God forbid, tone.

I can fully understand that there are problems in being a content creator as Othias clearly and helpfully explained, and Ian for the longest time tried to avoid to dump exceedingly retarded sponsorships like most of the Big Guntubers (and the older I get the less merciful I am towards the memetic content, even Othias' painfully unfunny War Were Declared start to annoy me) and for sure the audience for sperg videos like a in-depth analysis of "What are the differences between a Nagoya Type 99 2nd and 3rd series" is minimal, but...

The way Ian does it is annoying. Herrera is cringeworthy, but Ian dumping some frankly embarrassing Raid Shadow Legends tier content with Scottish Heritage or whatever, then dumping endless boring videos of factoids about Mosins and Makarovs while trying to make you buy a mug for 50 bucks, then crying about how evil Youtube is going to chop him down, makes me feel instantly less sympathetic. You can't try to sell yourself as a "serious content creator that won't accept compromises" and dump on your audience the compromises at the same time.

Coherency should be rewarded: and that's why despite its flaws I have grown to appreciate C&Rrsenal more and more, despite Mae being a thing.

As always. Paintball, airsoft, air rifles, blades. Anything that's a thing you do when you aren't allowed to have a loiscence to have firearms ends up like ten times more spergy and awful than the real thing.

WWD was a way to punch up attention between the 3rd and 4th act. It was waaay too successful in my opinion. Ultimately it was retired bc I found it unimportant and yet it took up hours of effort. Trying to find related, humourous clips was awful and each WWD was country specific as best as possible.

Mae has been great. At the start, yes I dwarf the pieces in context, but I also only had two hands. There was no way to reasonably produce the whole show alone. At first it was me doing EVERYTHING, including the 2D animations. Mae just shot and gave a novice opinion while I ran the cameras etc. Just having a shooter was a relief.

Over time, however, Mae proved to be the best call I ever made for the show, it can just be hard to see it from the outside. She has a work focus even I cannot beat. She sacrifices sleep and will work through injury. Since coming on full time she has mastered the filming as was, improved the lighting, remixes the audio to remove faults or mask noise, creates all of the templated assets, does some additional light design work, and assembles the final show in software. This plus handling tax work and some social media etc.

You can see the show trend up in quality radically over her first year full time. That's because before her, and Bruno taking the animations, I would pick one night a week to not sleep in order to meet schedule and still have friends/family.

With Mae I dialed back to about 60 hours and can really cram in a lot more research with time to carry the extra details to script. Also gave me time to solve various pop up crises.

We both understand she isn't the greatest communicator, especially early on. However, she has never shied from or fought criticism. Without burning any bridges publicly, I have also NEVER found anyone else half as reliable or dedicated to keeping their word. I can't name anyone who would have joined me unrelentingly for a decade of hard work with low pay and no retirement planning, let alone being professional about it, except apparently Mae.

The one unfair criticism is that she doesn't "run" the guns. We simply don't because there are so many variables with used, borrowed firearms that each one is generally worked slowly with time and attention enough to catch faults and call for a stop. I would go just as slow and would be lowering enough to see the brass and chamber as I worked the bolt. I know it isn't "proper" but I have already caught wood shrapnel once from a rifle-turned-grenade and I want to remain figured more than I want to look cool on camera.

Her dedication to the awful labor of running the annoying parts of a Youtube channel is commendable, but if we are here for the cruel and unfiltered opinions, she was terrible as a communicator and particularly compared to you she was.... well, skipping all her parts on a video doesn't make me feel like I've lost any essential information or anything of note. She feels redundant, and God forbid, at times seems to be there just because she needs to be there. I presume we both know that dreadful feeling of your friend's girlfriend/wife being there just because she needs to be there. No offense intended.

Also, 60 hours per week? Not even most people in Academia put so much work on research. But after all, you have both higher standards and need to have an output unimaginable for most Academia researchers. How the hell do you avoid burnout?

it was retired

Thank you.

It was, and this is why I could never ever be a successful youtuber. The idea of 'you must have this format, this video length because people will tune out of something they have an interest in just because tl;dw' is this alien concept to me. Maybe I'm the weird one. Thank you for having a healthy disdain.

Absolutely disgraceful, unwilling to risk permanent maiming/death for the entertainment of a barely paying audience of firearms turbo-nerds? At least Kentucky Ballistics cares about us.
Even Ian ate OOB brass for us!

We need more of that CokeMan energy out of Othais if he's ever going to make it in today's zoomer market.

I was just thinking that one of the most amazing youtube things you could invent was just... played straight, a Cokeman homage but with incredibly rare shit. But it would have to be unpromoted, utterly anonymous and way too over the top.

"So I tell you wer're gonna settle some old questions. Like so this is a Pedersen Device, okay? Gonna storm the trenches with this pussy French pistol round? Against Germans on meth? so like we were going to get my cousin on meth to test this but he chickened out, so like I'm gonna shoot this stalhelm with..." BANG "FUCK!"

"I am in chicago and we managed to get some tweakers dressed in WW1 german garbs.
Time to the test the good old 1897 and see if it still holds up.
Tally crackho!"

All just a prelude to the milsim video game community, a lair of all-encompassing, unmitigated autism dead set on ruining any video game that has a 3D model of an AR-15.

So guntube adjacent comedian King Trout basically came out (but without outright stating it) that he's been seduced by Brandon Herrera to leave the midwest and go move to Texas and joing Brandon's bootleg IP2 cult in Texas. With the implication that he'll be taking over Brandon's role on the Unsubscribed podcast now that Brandon's political career might actually be happening for real.

Ironically his IG story posts chronicling his move that he's posted these last couple of days, have all had an aura of someone who knows he's making a huge mistake giving up his life and his career as a contractor/handiman but who has no real choice since I'm sure he doesn't want to end up on the outs of the Herrera clique given how large it is and how much online influence they have.

It isn't all research. There is a lot of strange overhead. Basic maintenance, gunsmithing, ammo development, maintaining connections. Then visual assets and filming.

What is research is a mix of the actual eps in progress, pre-research towards future eps, light "wingspan" research to get an understanding of contemporary arms, and various tit for tat favors to other curators, researchers, etc.

60 hours is the light schedule. I just make sure to stay invested in friends and family. I also spend a lot of time on two wheels when weather permits.
