All those gov pistol quals are laughable. It's one of the reasons every police shooting has an absurd number of rounds fired. One of my childhood friends became and FBI agent and I can still shoot my Glock way better than he can shoot his.

I'm not sure the average gangsta has ever shot at a target, so I guess they're still ahead of the curve.

Rifle qualification for standard grunts, pistol qualification for grunts, police, whatever... They are what they are because there's a lot more to those jobs than shooting, not enough resources to train shooting, thus the qualification is just a bare minimum standard. It is what it is, and it's a universal problem around the world.

There is probably not even enough time for the people who really ought to know how to shoot (SOF, SWAT etc.) to train enough shooting on their job time. Either they have other things to do, or other stuff to train for. Usually some personal time needs to be invested.

Still, also has to be said. It's a lot different when shit hits the fan for real vs what you have in your mind when training for said incident. With proper training, you are able to react better. But still it's different, when the paper target actually shoots back at you.

Also, a lot of people are probably taught to shoot until the target is neutralized. Neutralized doesn't mean you asses whether or not the target is incapable of shooting back after you hit him. It means the target stops fucking moving.

How exactly was Iraq a failure? Last I checked the government we put in power, is still in power. We still have bases there, for example.

I think at the very least, studying the methods, equipment, and thinking of your most likely opponent is a good idea. Understanding, or getting an idea how the federal or state governments are going to respond to a local insurgency will go a long way to fighting them. Which leads to the point, were the tactics, training, and gear to blame for the failure in Afghanistan; or was the strategic thinking, remoteness of the region, and culture that led to the failure, and withdraw?

Door kicking will always be useful. Maybe not as useful as advertised, but you won't be blowing up/burning down every building turned into some strong point. Likewise, as I mentioned above understanding how your opponent is going to do something, like door kicking is useful in determining the best response. Maybe I can't fight them when they come through the door, so I best have the building rigged to go, and be away when they come in, for example.

Any cop or soldier who cares about shooting well seeks outside training, because they're almost certainly not going to get it on the job. One class I attended had several cops at it, a couple of them on the local county SWAT. It was obvious those guys cared about being proficient shooters. It was an interesting experience. I had one them asking me if I had any interest in a law enforcement career

Agreed. I think taking CQB classes has value, since those skills might come in handy during a burglary / home invasion, but you shouldn't be going on the hunt for someone if you don't have to. Get your family members into one room and call the cops. If the intruder tries to enter the room, engage. Other than that, EDC CCW classes have the most value to regular guys.

For the price of one nice set up view tactical LARP you can buy all of these things and be much more effective if guerrilla warfare you can't oppress people if you can't drive your trucks down every major American highway.
