The replies to Mike's post on X about his plate carrier video weren't as spicy as the comments on the video itself, but they're still pretty funny.

How exactly was Iraq a failure? Last I checked the government we put in power, is still in power. We still have bases there, for example.
To add to this: Both Afghanistan and Iraq invasions were extremely successful. How else do you call an invasion that ends after a month with overwhelming defeat of the defending country? If that's a faliure what do you call what Russia is doing rn?

He wasn't talking about the invasions, but the counter-insurgency efforts. I don't think you can argue that the US' anti-insurgency efforts in Afghanistan were ultimately successful, given who currently rules that country.

Iraq is more complicated because instead of a single insurgency, its had to deal with several over the course of the past two decades. Some of those have been largely crushed, ISIS for example (yes, their peripheral branches survived and are starting to trickle feed a revived branch in the Levant, but they were crushed at one point) and Al-Qaeda doesn't really have a presence there anymore. However, there are still groups in Iraq that have pledged to fight the Americans, with different groups launching sporadic rocket attacks against US bases since the start of the recent Israeli-Palestine conflict. It's certainly a lot better there than it was 10 years ago, but there are still at least a few gangs of men with rifles willing to fight whoever they don't like.
The current government, also, is not very pro-American, and I believe has been trying to work with the current admin to remove US troops from Iraq and close all bases there.

It's hard to call the US anti-insurgency effort in Iraq a complete success, but it has had some successes.

It’s more so that they dealt with insurgent groups for twenty years in the sandbox and not we beat your country WW1/2 style or a traditional war between the Russians and Ukrainians. Where clear battle lines and nations are drawn up of army 1 and army 2 not goat farmer 27 in civilian clothes who you may have seen in the bazar last patrol going about his day while the next he’s planting IEDs and shooting an rpg at you the next. Would be the main differences when differentiating the two conflicts. The invasions may have went well but the occupation of those places was a whole different story.

The problem is that we didn't just blow shit up and leave. No need to really occupy it, and as history has proven time and time again, pretty much impossible to do so by all who have attempted to do so. Those goat farmers are undefeated for almost 2000 years. They spit in the face of technology as they smash through your plates with WWI rifles that have been firing since the day they landed in country.

And then when you withdraw, they get your goddamned "sabotaged" blackhawks in the air in about a week to joy ride in them.

If shit ever did hit the fan people sure as hell not going to be kicking in doors, why risk it when you can just throw a few molotovs on the roof/through the window?
Maybe because you want the stuff inside to not be charred to the ground or risk the fire spreading. Explosives, even basic things made from what ever you can find are king in CQB. Incendiary is usually only good for area denial.

Fighting their neighbor in a proxy war against a hostile foreign power.

Oh I'm not disputing that. You can teach a goatfucker to pull a trigger or push a button that make grenade go boom but you can't explain things like "representative democracy" or why he can't just keep smoking hashish "even though it feels so good!". Some places and some people just can't behave like us, they're to be ignored or eliminated. It's a harsh thing to say but I've seen the liberal theorydelusion of a "human blank slate" do too much damage to the world to keep lying to myself as well.

I'll never forget the first time I saw footage of the ANA guys taking combat bong rips as they hip fired their weapons. I think the guy on bong duty was the only guy in the squad wearing a backpack...

he's been real silent so far, maybe he hasn't had enough alcohol
What the hell do you even say in his position? There's two nobodies, you've got Cokeman himself who is so disillusioned I'm surprised he didn't do his patented safety check with a hot chamber, Dugan with his redpill tourette's ready to go on a tangent at any moment- like right now.
This is wild for all the wrong reasons. Don't meet old /k/ommandos, they're jaded as fuck.
