Dan carlin's Common sense is his semi-political podcast. he soft endorsed biden because of muh stability. I REALLY want to hear his thoughts on that choice now lol. To be clear i do not think he is a liberal democrat, he is clearly a libertarian but his other episodes in the past revealed that he is very fearful that the two sides in the US are no longer capable of living together anymore and hinted that he though a civil war might be possible in the coming years. IIRC this was right after the baseball shooting.
Good to know, I haven't gotten that far yet; his lengthy podcasts have kinda slowed down my progress through them.

He put common sense on a hiatus because of the political situation became too much to comment on. Mostly the podcast was looking at current issues with his historian eye. I think that was what concerned him the most. IIRC He said that the congressional baseball shooting seemed to be committed by a crazy person but that historically its the crazy people on both sides that "break" first.

Gun-related reddit reminds me of how bad /k/ got.
Someone posts a picture of their great grandpappy's generic single shot 12 gauge and people come out of the woodwork to say it's a 30 year old H&R 20 gauge because their cousin's uncle's brother had one or it's a bubba'd Sharps Rifle or it's actually a double barrel since you got the angle of the photo wrong and one shot is dumb because who would have designed a single shot shotgun?

Need to get my great grandfather's single shot. Forgot the name, but last time I checked, it was old enough to be worth putting up on auction. I'll edit this post when I get around pulling it out. Also, single shots are fucking fun.

He did expand on the lore of his lack of father figure in the last Q&A - he bought a Lee Enfield and had no frame of reference, didn't even know how to use it.

Atun-Shei is something else man. He's genuinely History Channel tier with how bad his content is.

History channel WAS cool. I remember waking up early before school, eating cereal or oatmeal, and I'd watch them play late 90's and early 2000 reruns of mini documentaries about the wild west. I don't know how right they were but it was fucking dope. Got me into older firearms and steered me away from being a tacticool dumb fuck.

Those single shot shotguns were made by dozens of companies over the last ~160 years. it was the shotgun for the poorest of the poor or people who didnt like spending money. they are all essentially the same design. Henry makes the nicest ones available right now but turkish ones can be very very cheap. in 2019 before the current covid panic Hatfield single shot's were ~90 dollars at Walmart. its $140 now.

The availability of different caliber barrels was/is a big selling point, and I used single-shots for working up handloads, or shooting sketchy/questionable ammunition.

At one point I had a used Sears-branded single & it totally wouldn't have been anything special.... except it came with 8 barrels in foreign & domestic military calibers, including one odd belted magnum that I never messed with. It came in handy for finding out how old surplus or handloads behaved, before running it through something scarce & expensive.

You should use a Mauser Geha to test all that weird/questionable ammo you find. It'll be fine trust me.

In all seriousness the Geha is an interesting shotgun which was a Mauser modified G98 bored out to 20/16/12 guage after WW1 to try to maintain German industries during the Versailles Treaty.

A common practice. The Swedes did this with their surplus. Husqvarna Hunting rifles built on military actions are great rifles and 1860's era Rolling blocks converted into shotguns. Their guns are high quality and are very affordable due to their relatively unknowness on the US market.

That Mannlicher-style stock & hooded front post, though.....
:woo:
I think I'm in love.

The Geha is very interesting. It relies on the "safety lug" of the Mauser bolt rather than the true locking lugs, which were removed to accommodate the larger diameter of the shotshell.
I say "safety lug" because it's less of a third locking lug and more of an early warning that if you see wear on that part it's letting you know you don't have a tight lockup due to either receiver stretch or deformed locking lugs.

I'm of two minds on the safety of shooting it. It's on-par with the locking surface of your average pump action but with the added anxiety of the bolt being in front of your eye.

WWSD is a cult amounting to a kid sticking his fingers in his ears and screaming “I can’t hear you!”

Can’t even post a link to the weight comparison video without being downvoted to obscurity. Don't even have to say anything/comment, the facts are enough to trigger a response.

Carlin is a complete establishment shill that tries to mask himself as a reasonable political neutrality point. He completely gave up the ghost in 2016.

I stopped listening to Common Sense after Trump won in 2016. Carlin for the entire election referred to Trump as a maverick like Teddy Roosevelt and having a lot of the qualities he would like in a politician even though he didn't completely like the whole package. After he won, he had an embarrassing cope episode where he claimed to have drank all the alcohol in his house in dismay Queen Bitch, that is the embodiment of everything he says he dislikes in politics, didn't get her coronation.

I very much enjoyed his commentary of the 2016 election as at the time I had a very similar position. I didn't want to vote for Trump(and I'm in a state it wouldn't matter) and I absolutely hated Hillary. For him to drop the mask so aggressively and be so distraught that a established wildly corrupt politician was beat by a completely unknown factor(politically) disgusted me.

Fortunately, like Ian McCollum, he keeps his historical work mostly apolitical and I can still enjoy Hardcore history.

Not a bad idea. Even the really cheap ones are pretty robust, typically.

You posted something outside the Overton window of a subreddit. It shouldn’t be a shock they downvoted it to maintain their echo chamber.

I would be curious to hear how the AR15.com community thinks of it.

I can tell you.
50% love it.
50% hate it.
50% Don't know what it is.
.01% Have actually tried one.

As someone else already said, at least add something to the post or else the thread just becomes a duplicate of a youtube subscription feed.
I think it's curious Deviant said that back then a resistance force could defend a city but if we look at the Second and Third Battle of Fallujah the insurgent forces were 4,000-5,000 strong and held out for over a month in both instances. Yeah modern technology aids the offensive side but urban warfare is still a difficult problem and locations like Asian megacities are still a huge unknown.

Apologies. Deviant continuing to use Karls platform to continually talk about anti-authoritarianism is fascinating to me. He has been a complete authoritarian since Covid hit and isn't doing videos like this just for the good of history.

Deviant is an SRAtard idol so the video has been more than a little confusing for them on their boards. "Do we like the video because it's Deviant and about bashing the fash?" or "do we hate the video because it's also about bashing ALL authoritarians including communists?"

deviant also had some sort of association with the antifa group that tried to fire bomb the ICE center in portland (?)
