Indeed. But Brandon is like 25. He's a young idiot, and most of his current friends he met on the internet.

He probably had one of the BRC guys paint a really positive picture of Hasan to him, and went into it without doing any kind of research.
I can see those BRC hucksters being pals with someone like Hasan. Really activates the almonds.

He was looking right at a cartridge being ejected when he racked the slide a second time and that didnt give him any pause?

What a moron.
I've heard Yeager say pulling the trigger to drop the hammer is not part of clearing a gun, and even though I absolutely do it myself this is probably why he says it. Muscle memory of racking the slide and pulling the trigger after ejecting the round probably caused that, despite what he blatantly saw with his eyes.

That dude does not look like he does clearing drills to begin with.

Not clearing malfunction drills, I mean clearing and making it safe; you're done shooting for the time being.
Or in this case done your photo op I guess.

Twitch shows us the best way to make sure your firearm is safe is to unload it on your wall.

I've always found racking the firearm more than once gives a lot more forgiveness for inattentive clearing. Too many times people clear a gun with the magazine still in and don't notice that they're actually loading a round and if you rack multiple times it should be very clear that you're ejecting 1 or more rounds. Funny story, the first day my unit got to Afghanistan there were probably 3 NDs within a few hours of receiving our initial combat load with dudes function checking their guns using the standard clearing method relying on having the magazine removed.

Clearing 99.9% of modern firearms is an insanely simply process;

remove magazine
rack slide/pull charging handle and inspect chamber

Its a two step process that takes all of 5 seconds. Theres absolutely zero reason to ever deviate from the process or fail outside of stupidity.

Thankfully never saw one of those in my year in Iraq. Though I did get to hear someone commit suicide, does that count?
