Update for Paul (I posted earlier in the thread proof that I know him personally). To be blunt, he'll be dead by the end of the week. When he first broke the news on his channel about his cancer diagnosis, the truth is that he had about six months to live because they caught it extremely late. He said the prognosis was good because he wanted his viewerbase to be optimistic and not see his final videos in a more... doom and gloom mood, and he didn't want his channel flooded with well-wishers more than it really had to be. He wanted to maintain the same feeling while also not having his death be a sudden shock. We knew from the start there was a good chance he wouldn't make it to the new year, and he's doing quite badly right now. As some people speculated upthread, the cancer has spread to his bones, and the doctors described them as being "like a sponge" because of just how much they've been eaten away. He broke his hip on just an ordinary walk. Apologies if anything I've said is redundant to something he's said in a video, I don't really watch them myself; I just wanted to clear some things up and give a little bit of a warning. I think he has one or two videos left in him. There's been talk among the crew that one of them might continue Paul's holiday story tradition, but with JR taking over the channel that's still up in the air.

To be fair I think hardcast ammo is designed as a back country/bear defensive round. Definitely wouldn't normally want to use in your edc.

Something similar happened to a relative a little over a year ago. He ignored the symptoms for a very long time, and by the time he gave in and went to the doctor, it was way too late. He left behind 2 kids in college and a wife that didn't make enough money to keep the house. While he is missed, a lot of the family had a lot of anger and resentment towards him because it could have been treated if he didn't ignore the symptoms.

If you've got some funky shit going on with your health, go to a doctor. If you're afraid to know what's wrong, waiting will only make it worse.

It gets no expansion like an FMJ but still causes lead fouling in the barrel. The reasons many people like it is it can be slightly heavier, cheaper to make and you can make your own. Plus the velocity ceiling of 1500-1700fps for hardcast is a non issue in pistols.

Its almost sole purpose is grizzly bear country. They have very small, thick, and angled skulls. They're notorious for deflecting pistols. A 210/215/220gr hardcast will fully penetrate a bear's head, skull, and brain. I want to say Glock 20s are the 1st or 2nd most popular pistol in Alaska for that reason.

The only common calibers that compete are .44 mag. .500 is still pretty new but becoming more common, and there's some boutique high velocity pistol rounds that you can't walk into a normal gun store and buy ammo for. The argument is that you get 15 shots of 10mm which is similar in power to .44sp, instead of 5-6 shots of a higher powered but higher recoiling .44 mag. You're probably already shitting your pants and only have 2-5 seconds before the charging bear kills you, and the drop shot zone is about the size of a coffee mug.

Double Tap's 220gr is moving at 1450fps for 922ft/lbs of energy and 30+ inches of penetration. I wanna say the 190 and 200gr full power FMJs only penetrate about 22-25 inches.

It's also recommended you change your barrel if you're shooting it out of a glock. The polygonal rifling increases the chances of lead fouling. Lone Wolf is a common pick and it gives you the option of adding a compensator or suppressor.

Monometal (machined solid copper) bullets are an effective alternative though they are less dense than hardcast lead.

It's also recommended you change your barrel if you're shooting it out of a glock. The polygonal rifling increases the chances of lead fouling. Lone Wolf is a common pick and it gives you the option of adding a compensator or suppressor.

You also need to use a stiffer recoil spring if you're shooting high power loads.

The new Glock model 20 comes with a recoil spring that allows the breech face to open too soon and my new Glock model 20 will get extreme spreads of about 100fps with the factory spring installed. When I go to a stiffer recoil spring, the extreme spreads drop to about 50 fps in my new Glock model 20.

The main reason I've heard for why the aftermarket barrel is needed is because the stock Glock barrel doesn't have a fully supported chamber.

By far my favorite Paul moment is the revolver in bed scenario. That entire video was just pure goodness, but him going the extra mile to put on pajamas and get a bed out on the range was exactly the kind of effort I had come to expect from him.

IIRC the unsupported chamber led to a few guns blowing up years ago. I want to say they resolved the issue somehow but I'm not into glocks so i didn't keep up on it.

I loss a relative in the early 1980ies to similar circumstances but the mistake was going to same doctor who kept saying there was nothing wrong or couldn't find anything wrong. It wasn't until relative went to a completely different doctor, who found relative had cancer. But by that point the cancer was terminal and all that could be done was pain management.
