General GunTuber thread

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
/k/ hasn't been about weapons for a few years now, it was starting to become the same recycled threads about armor or aircraft. But it's not just /k/, Paranormal is just pagan cope and astrology posts now. The glory days have long past us.
All the actual interesting/knowledgeable /k/ people moved to discord years ago. Mostly to get away from the people everyone's complaining about.

ugh. I hate that trend. The balkanizing of the internet into little private groups. More and more it's getting to the point where you can't find knowledge unless you know exactly where to look to begin with.

I hate it too, but I recognize the reality of it. When the Internet got simple and you could get on without being able to write a script to set up SLIP, we lost a lot of our ability to filter out fucking morons.

As this site amply documents, we have unmedicated skitzos roaming the internet on the regular now. IP2 'creators'. Bossmanjack. You open your group up ot the wider whole and it's going to be disrupted by evolutionary throwbacks in seconds.

In addition to other menaces to the adult mind.

The thing I like about this format is that access can be restricted to read-only. So you can keep out the riff-raff (that's not the case on KF, but the capability is there) while allowing the accrued knowledge to remain public and highly searchable. Not "gay little discord cliqs" as Null would say.

For a brief period, it seemed like answers to almost any technical problem (computer, car, etc) was at the touch of fingertips. Now it's all bot-shit or "join the discord." And as it relates to guns, I've noticed that a lot of people seem to think that discord groups are somehow more private than posting on the surface web ("you gotta tell us if you're a fed!"). I'm just pining for when the combination of useful search engines and a relatively open web allowed an ignoramus like me to troubleshoot technical problems pretty much on my own.

AI assisted SEO pollution has already done incredible damage in just a few years, I wonder if that's something the web can ever get past in any practical capacity?

I posted in here before.

I grew up slumming the internet and don't fear criticism, nor people I might disagree with. C&Rsenal and the public persona are a means to communicate something I care about and want to share. I don't need it to work for everyone, but I do try to make improvements where I can with the resources available.

Unfiltered commentary is great for that. Too many "creators" get addicted to the fan club and become caught up in fan service. Then you get too much "lifestyle" and not enough content. Sometimes the assholes are right. Even if someone complaining is wrong, that can mean I need to communicate it better going forward. I am aware that the vast majority of my audience and patrons will never contact me, so I have to cast a wide net to hopefully understand my silent market.

The KF guntuber thread largely stays on topic and does a lot better than /k/ about voicing the nuances in opinion. Lots of heavy bias and insults sure, but far less knee jerking or oppositional attention seeking.

I can't really indulge in the gossip though. I am very careful with secrets and personal information. I believe that unless someone is doing harm or scamming in some.way, it's not my place to tell their stories publicly. It is also bad business to be seen as too negative about others' endeavors.

Edit: and of course while I was typing the update came in. My thoughts are with his family and friends.
Considering the other guy in here might be a bullshitter, you might want to talk to staff if you want us to know it’s really you.

Another possibility is Paul had a health scare that got misinterpreted with more finality than was realized.
This, more or less. I apologize. I was fairly certain but said something when I shouldn't have after having too much to drink over it. I don't talk to JR, I guess I'll let him tell the world through Facebook... I assumed his death would be announced after a few days on the YouTube channel.

Yeah it was IG. Seems GT and his wife and his camera guy got mad, Reno May got really mad, and demo ranch's camera guy also got mad.
Massive seething for a post which doesn't even call them out directly tbh, very weird.

They probably aren't lying when they say that they aren't being paid by the gun company for the reviews as that wojld be illegal to not disclose but are they being paid by Leviathan group directlty?

They are indirectly receiving cash as Leviathan is the one who hooks them up with the meme ball shaving ad sponsorships but does leviathan receive cash from the gun manufacturers?

Thanks for the clarification. Probably a good idea to edit your original post so people don't see it and freak out.

My understanding is that seething is mostly a the pot calling the Kettle black situation. As Lucas has his own connection in the gun industry that he doesn't publicize.

From what I've heard Leviathan takes a cut of each sponsorship deal and just acts as a middle man. That being said there's a definite under tone of if you want another sponsorship deal you better say nice things about our gun. Springfield is supposedly notorious for black listing guntubers for saying negative things about their guns.

To clarify, because I am dumb- is this:

"I thought he was deceased but he was not"

or a "I didn't realize that they didn't want to reveal it until later" ?
