Brandon's argument in that Unsubscribe podcast video essentially breaks down to "shilling SDI isn't bad because people get fleeced out of their money for useless degrees all the time, and almost all degrees are worthless." I've never cared for any of these guys' videos or anything, but they really come across as a gaggle of retarded assholes here.

this retard is just trying to abject responsibility despite purposefully trying to build up a level of trust between himself and the audience. He will say shit like "everything I do is honest, unfiltered me," and then proceed to paint YOU as the bad guy for pointing out statements he makes that are contradictory and misleading/an outright lie.

The argument he tried to have with Ryan McBeth on the latest Unsubscribe was also pretty retarded. Ryan made the argument that foreign information campaigns against the US can be as harmful as some forms of kinetic action and should be treated as enemy action, including potentially bombing or otherwise removing individuals in these governments' payrolls who are involved in these operations. Brandon immediately jumped to "SO YOU WANT TO KILL PEOPLE FOR THEIR SPEECH" and repeated it over and over, and you could just see Ryan trying very hard not to reply with "no, you fucking retard. Being paid by a government to post shit on the internet isn't protected speech".

I'm surprised that didn't go even further, given how drunk they all were by the end of it.

So you trust the government with patriot act 2.0? Because I really don't. They already droned a US citizen because he was almost certainly a terrorist. Do you want them kicking down your door for a post that was obviously funded by a foreign government? Don't forget the patriot act got us de-banking as a cracker jack prize.

Free speech is a right of an individual person, not that of nation-states. Unfortunately the distinction at times is hard to draw in the internet age.

I don't disagree with your point, I simply don't trust our government nor for that matter any government I can think of to make that distinction correctly. If all the government has to do to justify taking violent action against an individual is to frame them as working for a nation-state then I expect the people working for our enemies to suddenly grow by leaps and bounds. As imperfect as it is it's better to treat bloggers as media with all the reluctance to shoot the press as opposed to enemy combatants than to give the government carte blanche to hunt down anyone critical of them under guise of foreign influence. My 2 cents.
