Bro, the S.C.V has more in common with your local historical society than anything else. to the extent we interact with politics is to try to prevent removal of confederate monuments on government property, but if the local gov wants it gone its gone since it's on their land. luckily in the small towns they mostly let us keep monuments up, or it is on private land (very common) or in a graveyard (Confederate gravestone monuments and flag poles)

is it mostly boomers? yes, because who else has the time to sit around compiling and combing through documents. but that is true for most groups.

a point on 11mm Mauser: you only need to do all this crap on Mauser 71/84 rifles. the original Mauser 71's don't have the weird stepped rim so you can form brass from .45-70 or .45-90 direct with just a sizing die. I saw a nice 71 factory sporter carbine once for $700. I didn't have the money at the time to buy it. I think it had about a 16 inch barrel, half stock and simply fixed sights. very slick gun, would have been a great brush gun.

That dude has a serial killer's affect.

Mauser 71s are so fucking cool. As soon as I saw the C&Rsenal video about them I started to have visions of a fallout-esque post apocalyptic world where people used black powder cartridge guns bc they were popular pre-collapse for no other reason than they would be cool as fuck in the wasteland.

Husqvarna made Mauser 71s up into the 1940s. they are fairly rare in the US but not that expensive when they go on sale. usually less than $1000.

Lets reference my master list of Husqvarna rifles and shotguns:

I have to imagine these were made for the US market. Husqvarna made a lot of guns on very obsolete actions for decades. They were still making shotguns on the lefaucheux patent action up into the 1950s! that action was patented in the 1840s!

Don't I fucking know this.

I've been lucky to source some brass -- some of it from the 50s, some of it new production from Bertram (bought from Oz back when it was merely fucking expensive versus now) -- but I don't have a lot. A guy made me some out of 7mm Remington Magnum. I haven't had a chance to use them yet, but I know extraction will be theoretical since they don't have that pronounced rim.

I really want to get into black powder cartridges and other pre WWI shit. I'm hoping I have money to pick that shit up at estate sales in the upcoming gret boomer death wave. I got a screaming deal on a Kar88 a few years ago but I ended up having to sell it before I was able to buy some repro clips and work up a good carbine load for it.

I've mulled that over but I don't have a lot of those and the guy stopped making them so experimenting could come at a cost. I'd almost rather live with anemic extraction than potentially lose even one case.

So, with CCI Mini Mags Segmented Hollowpoints, fired from a Marlin 60, at 300 yards, on an eight inch steel plate of roughly 3/8 inch thickness. You can not, in fact, hear the plink on the steel. However my ears are fucked by tinnitus and this may just be a me problem.

Sounds like a bad idea. Annealing is done with a propane torch (unless you pay a small fortune for an induction unit) and typically done with a rig like the Annealeez that keeps the flame in a fixed position relative to the cartridge or by the old NRA method of putting the cartridge in a pie plate full of water on a phonograph turntable (to act as a heat sink) and freehanding the torch, in order to protect the heat treatment of the case body and especially the head. Since brazing is done with an acetylene torch, it seems even more likely to destroy the heat treatment and result in ruptured cases or even case head separation.

you'd defiantly need to re-treat the case, but it's not like it's some insurmountable task if you're already brazing rims on.
