Anyone ever get a squib round though?

squibs aren't terribly rare as ammunition failures go, but it's one of those 1/1000 type things or less and can be quite dangerous if you don't notice the squib.

A former fed goes around testifying on the technicality that the AR lower doesn't fulfill all the requirements to be a receiver, and it's done a lot of people good.

I fantasize regularly about one day enough judges declaring lower receivers not firearms that you can just order them online and have them shipped right to your door. If that ever happens, I am blowing at least $2000 on lowers before they reverse the decision. In my fantasies it extends to things like pistol frames too. It's so good there's no way it'll ever happen, but I can dream.

Speaking of split casing with the pressure coming out the back of the rifle. The only time I ever had a split casing it felt similar to what people describe as a squib round and then the gas leaked out from inbetween the upper and lower receiver and the ejection port. Certainly made for an interesting range day.

I've had more than a few (along with potentials) shooting old &/or generic .22, but that was to be expected.

What did surprise me came from a bandolier of fresh Lake City; I heard some private say "hey, these must be dummy rounds", just in time to see them being loaded into magazines for the next range rotation. I think we pulled three or four cartridges from that lot which had no powder.

Didn't they recently have to drop out of something because if it was ruled against it would determine that AR receivers aren't "firearms"? I remember something like that coming up in the past year or two.
