Generation Z, "Ironic" Degeneracy, Sadism, and Discord - Not a fun thread

atching any streamer is transactional (and in most instances people aren't watching them for any creative or educational appeal, so it is obvious what the transaction is here), if you desired entertainment for entertainments sake there'd be several better ways of deriving it outside of watching streamers.
Vtubing specifically is highly transactional, you're both buying into the idea of a character being sold to you (after all, you have to truly immerse with the idea that this foxgirl is streaming games or the like for your amusement) as well as engaging consistently with a streamer, which simply requires a degree of parasocialism, no matter how little you perceive that as. Buying into the kayfabe of watching these personalities requires that, the argument here might be that people already do that kind of immersion with books but those are fictional, vtubers are (largely) real people, parasocialism is baked into the optimal entertainment experience by design, its the same deal with real world idol shit.
I mean people will be entertained by real life people, its a given and not a big deal, but specifically there's no innocuous watching of most vtubers really, you're either invested and a frequent watcher or you're not watching them at all
I guess I'm the odd one out because the way I "interact" with vtubers is mostly through clips, memes and maybe treat is as background audio if any holo happens to stream when I do my morning stuff on PC. I suppose I am not a proper gachikoi then. Good thing I guess?

Even if being a weeb is "sincerity culture" or a rejecting of irony and the like you're not going to find much support of that concept on a forum like this one (really dude), not sure what you were even thinking. The primary issue is people increasingly lacking any capacity for earnestness or genuine internal reflection on the way they behave and carry themselves, which is a reasonable assertion, your solution just really isn't very universally appealing. You took the actual important solution of "being more sincere" and appended your personal hobby to it.
Aye. Bit foolish of me to think that this forum has gotten more receptive to weeb culture over the years. Lesson learned.

Either way I thank you for your earnest post and not just throwing slurs at me.

What culture? Anime is mainstream, it's on netflix. Stacy is watching jujutsu kaisen so she can get some points with the performative lean-enjoyer age 17 she wants to get spat on and beaten by because her tiktok idols tell her that's how you have sex these days. Anime is a waste marketing product meant to push people onto manga. If you want to engage with anyone remotely similar to 'weebs' of yesteryear, you'll find them in niche manga fandoms.
I'd also add that, compared to edited youtube videos, books, video games, etc, streaming is a low production effort medium and an unedited one. Let's be real, most streams (might be selection bias on my end) are boring as fuck, with mostly nothing happening in them.
"lol enjoy paying $35 for your slop AI game.. I'll be over here watching someone else play the same game while spamming POGGA in chat!". I get watching streamers who play games that aren't dictated by trends. BG3 drops and they're playing FO2, actively engaging with their chat. Vtubers however, especially apparent with this PEAK trend as of late, are basically pick-me's who only engage with other vtubers if they stand to gain from it. I watched 8 girlies play a modded lobby, each stream having miniatures of each other on their own streams, and it was literally just 8 adult women with open mic talking to their own chat, ignoring one another, secretly seething they weren't the one with most viewers. Vtubing is a dishonest, dehumanizing blight.
Kinda exactly opposite for me. Gooner and Doomer memes are neat.
And I'm getting old, so there's that. I'm biased. If I was younger I might also suffer 'oomer fatigue.
Doomerism will always be prevalent but as of late it's almost valid. It's freeing to see other people go "yeah, life kinda sucks". Why do we see mid-20s adults call themselves kids? Because there's nothing appealing about becoming an adult anymore. Once you can buy alcohol, there's no more unlockables in your life. You won't own property, you won't have kids, you won't buy a cheap reliant car and drive to Florida for the summer. You stand only to lose transitioning from teenhood to adulthood. That's why late-20s girlypops call themselves 'girl' and not "I'm a woman with fat tits who need a baby in my womb". Cause there's nothing to gain from it. Not even the idea of telling the world you've gotten laid; there's porn and goonerism everywhere, sex barely matters anymore. The majority of amateur porn is fem/cels wiggling in their LED-caked bedroom for Onlyfans. I genuinely don't recall last I was expose to porn between two adults that was filmed post 2020s.

Informative, decent thread derailed by raging weebnigger faggot who enjoys tranime titty streamers from his favela award.

I think the thing that shocks me most when I meet other zoomers around my age is just how much COMnigger soundcloud rap culture has infected a significant portion of people I meet nowadays. The whole black and white tranime avatar, 𝔯𝔢𝔱𝔞𝔯𝔡𝔢𝔡 profile names/fonts, and painfully edgy diatribes or handles for social media. These aren't even some random internet people, these are retards I know in real life who gave me their instagram to stay in contact (which is what I usually ask for because I rather not give my personal phone number out). Just 20-somethings who were completely raped or groomed by some nigga on roblox or tiktok. They all have this sort of ironic detachment towards everything and their only aspiration is to be a retarded bladee clone if they are a guy or be an insufferable egirl who post sanrio character merchandise, pink wall age regression and hoe tranime.

It's worse when you know these people in real life and how much of a loser they are when the aura veil of social media isn't present. None of them work full time either and they take the internet as the most paramount part of their life. It really put in perspective for me how much social media and chat apps have completely melted people away. It just makes me wonder when this shit even started because it felt like it just materialized out of nowhere and suddenly the internet was more gay than it was before. I don't really use social media or chat apps frequently so this whole culture emerging hit me like a train when I started noticing.

@DerangedBehavior idk man things have stayed pretty similar for a long time, as someone who was using the internet frequently pre-2010 it hasn't changed super drastically, I think more than anything it was just amplified by the sheer amount of people accessing the internet, our generation isn't isolated from this cringe. I know there's plenty of things I used to be into when I was young that were very ironically detached and I'm sure many genx people would agree with that sentiment. Both generations had a transitional period into different levels of irony. Massive portions of people used chat programs previously, the only issue I see today is that previous Gens were introduced and made it a current trend and it just never stopped because the money, fame, and attention never stopped rolling in, so people made it out to be an entire lifestyle choice based off their interests, no exactly different to how it was before. If you would like I can give you hundreds of examples of how things changed and or stayed the same.

Another thing I completely understand is childlike curiosity when it comes to being online and how some people can be attached to far greater extremes compared to how people used to view things pre-internet, if you're given an encyclopedia with everything you could ever imagine you would most definitely go cover to cover trying to find the most interesting, disturbing and thought provoking material possible. Humans are drawn to things that scare us or things that seem disturbing, awful or unexplainable.

tldr If we are most scared of things we don't know then if you're given a tool to know everything then why not.

It's funny that you say this because the other day i had this thought that anime in american culture doesn't really exist outside of Shonen Jump. Like sure there's old school VHS weeb culture but by and large most things from that are fringe, even widely lauded things like akira or ghost in the shell. it still blows my fucking mind how popular naruto is because i made fun of it when i was a kid, i thought it was just fake edgy dragonball. Naruto is goku (hot headed, hungry), sakura is bulma (voice of reason), and sasuke is vegeta (stubborn, angsty), right? I think that was the only reason i was able to sit through Fullmetal Alchemist (and why modern weeb seem to hate it) because it didn't just use the exact same by-the-numbers story structure

I legitimately don't think people even relate to these characters as actual characters, they're just picking and choosing pieces of their archetypes. which is probably why shonen is so popular, you can just copy paste them onto each other to make new characters, but you have to be at the emotional level of a 12 year old to really find it engaging. It really is, from the bottom up, total nigger cattle slop

It's really nothing to worry about. I unalived three of them on God during my last hunt.

Fun fact - the garbage disposal does not like broccoli hair.

I don't know man, I've yet to meet not terminally online zoomers who are like this, and those don't go out of their homes, or maybe it's more common in the US, no idea really.

I do agree that the knee-jerk anti-anime instance is gay, sometines Null ballwashing, maybe even a-logging (in spite of being in reaction to human waste like porn pushers and COM faggots) and sometimes hypocritical considering many of the ones doing it are Soyjak.party users considering what the site is, but dood, you are actually defending Vtubers.

I don't think this shit originated with COM faggots, this corny shit already existed before them minus the animu.

Lol what are you talking about? Lots of productions outside the shlocky formula entered in the mainstream, you see normalfags talking about shit like Freiren and Evangelion (Regardless of your thoughts on them.)

yeah people on the internet talk about those things but they don't sell that stuff at Wal-Mart or hot topic. you're more likely to have someone talk about one piece or some shit

Do you enter in contact with college aged people? Thanks to streaming there are more of them talking about those on an equal or even higher level than the typical shonen ones. I saw people with evangelion character pins and an IRL Chainsaw Man cosplay once.

it's a modern classic so anybody looking into it with more than a passing interest will run into evangelion sooner rather than later but its still veiled behind being an enthusiast kind of show. Like, anime is totally mainstream now. people have naruto tattoos and there's a section in wal-mart with hatsune miku merchandise. Jungian Rape Robots: Also It's Jewish is not a very approachable piece of media to the unwashed masses, who watch one piece with their kids because its badass

As I said, we are not in 2014 anymore to have evangelion elitists when normies talk about it widely.
The younger animu watchers are no longer hegemonically shonen watchers, thanks to streaming plataforms likely, with a bigger interest in romance and other genres.

Doesn't seem to be the case with younger viewers. What you said seem to apply more to a decade ago than now. One Piece itself is controversial for it's length among them.

its not even elitism it's had four movies made about it over a ~30 year period and it's one of the most recognizable giant robot franchises next to gundam. but that doesn't change the fact that i have never seen a piece of evangelion merchandise IRL. Naruto, One Piece, they're mainstream, things you can bring up to a random person on the street and they would be tangentially aware of them like the teenage mutant ninja turtles. Gundam? EVANGELION? hell no.

Why are zoomers so gay, no matter the ideology or side of the political spectrum, they are just so fucking gay.
