Generative AI (GenAI) In Games

Plenty of games require being online as it is anyway for shitty DRM, might as well make use of the cloud connection for something that actually involves the game.
You'll need to pay a subscription for it. Are you prepared for every game becoming a subscription?

For creating game assets it will be amazing and will break the tranny/furry hold on game art. But as a tool for game systerms it will just be a money dump for features that only sound good on paper:
* Auto generated terrain and dungeons: While it will be better than Skyrim, will still be too unfocused and large to be fun.
* NPC writing/conversation: Will be cool the first time, but if you'll want to speak to an NPC you'll use a chatbot rather than something ingame. There's a reason why writing prompt is no longer used in games for decades in favour of pre chosen topics.
* Auto generated plot: Will probably have the same issue of losing focus after a while.

ChatGPT as your role play games Dungeon Master could be good with a little work. It would actually allow for more Role Play with NPC interactions, and the AI could adjust its reaction to player activity within the parameters of the story.

Why would any company incur the massive costs of hosting/renting a LLM for the equivalent of fucking radiant quests?
Well considering we all know radiant was utter fucking trash, one would assume it wouldn't be for the equivalent of radiant. As far as why a game studio/publisher would host anything online... I don't know... it's not as if there aren't hundreds of games out there already hosting things online unnecessarily. If they can leverage a technology to actually improve a game experience, I don't see the issue so long as it isn't just so some degenerate coomer can chat with their stripper mod companions in skyrim or whatever anime VN crap has come out of japan this month.

Not only is it extremely expensive at scale but you'd also have to deal with half your playerbase trying to get NPCs to yell about Jews and niggers. No AAA company is going to touch this but you might see some naive indie dev try it.

This, external LLMs are super expensive at scale.
Take this mod for BG3, it allows you to give your custom character it's own background and dialog personality using Chat-GPT.
One guy spent $100 and barely generated enough lines for a 2/5ths of the game.

That being said, local models might be viable as consumer GPUs improve, though it'll be competing with graphics for GPU ram.

>EA CEO Andrew Wilson believes generative AI could offer ‘deeper, more immersive experiences’

My ass, companies like EA will use it to save money and make more slop faster, lowering their already low quality to mariana trench levels.
