Generosity of the average person

It was recommended to me a video from MrBeast (video) in which he goes to several places and pays for the surgery needed to treat partial blindness, along with some extras like a gift car, college tuition, etc.

Now I know this is highly speculative, but for the hypothetical in which your average person would have access to large amounts of money (let's say to the level of one of these top streamers, VTubers, etc), do you think they'd do charitable works like these? Regularly.

More often than not, I see people with what they call "fuck you money" buying their new extra mansion and sports car that's not even going to be put to proper use, instead of stuff like this. So I was wondering if (financially) normal people would lean towards this behaviour or not, in your opinion.

[Also, I know there's a ton of variables/factors to take into consideration, and that things like these can be used to raise PR/image/good publicity in order to gain profit afterwards; the philosophical notion of pure altruism, like if ultimately they're doing this for their own pleasure or not, etc, but let's keep it simple.]

That's probably a little tougher to accomplish than it might seem.

For a situation like that with Mr. Beast, there's a ton of logistics that would have to go into dealing with all these people; do you just throw the money at random people who say they need it? Then it's going to get abused by opportunistic players. Do you have to learn these people's history? How much time and how many people does that take to orchestrate?

That's why in order to deal with those kinds of logistics you usually set up a nonprofit intended to further whatever charitable goal you set out to accomplish. Then you have to have staff in charge of doling out the money, and dealing with pitfalls and regulations. And then it morphs into a situation that has all the exact same problem as almost every other nonprofit.

The reason a lot of incidentally rich people probably wind up spending their money on shallow bullshit because they don't know how to spend their money except through the most convenient and obvious channels.

So at least personally no, I probably wouldn't be charitable in that specific way, not necessarily out of selfishness but rather because if there's anything that a person should glean from the modern world where people are constantly falling into fortunes and losing them with nothing whatsoever to show for it, it's that it takes more effort and expertise than ever to wield money to its greatest effect. It's a strange time.

If I had "fuck you money" I'd use it to help everyone I like and to taunt the people I don't like. All of my friends/family and people that have been nice to me would never have to work again, but I'd go find that asshole that cut me off in traffic and burn the exact amount of money he needs to save his sick kid in front of him while giggling.

In terms of whether the average person would do it to that extent, I strongly doubt MrBeast himself and his ilk would do it if not for the publicly showing themselves being charitable aspect.

Having said that, I have witnessed acts of remarkable generosity from the wealthy done in private, or even entirely anonymously. It's something especially pronounced during Christmastime. Having said that, I suppose cutting a few $5,000 or $10,000 checks every year when you're worth eight or nine figures is really just a drop in the bucket.

I don't think it would be done to the outrageous level that you're talking about where they go extremely excessive with it and make a spectacle of the recipient when dropping life altering amounts of money on them, but I do think that it would be a fairly regular occurrence for a regular joe with a large sum of money to be charitable with a portion of it. It already is for many of the currently wealthy, though you don't always see or hear about it and it probably wouldn't be to the same extent.

We already know the answer is no. I can't think of wealthy person on Mr. Beast's level of altruism, or anywhere near it.

I think billionaires and multimillionaires are evil, you can't have that much ability to help people and just not do it while being a decent person. People who simp for them by saying they create jobs or pay a lot of taxes are even worse tbh.

I somewhat agree with this to some extent.

In a cruel world where corruption and misery is abundant, to have that much money and decide to (for example) buy your 7th Lamborghini for no real reason, displays a level of apathy that I do not consider characteristic of a "good" person.

Same with a lot of celebrities/"entertainers"/etc and when gossip outlets cover how much money they burned in stupid stuff, of course they are free to spend what they own, but it doesn't change the fact of their apathy.

And for higher ups in the political sphere, the budget that is sometimes moved towards foolish reasons (and corrupted), which I'm not going to powerlevel about, while homeless people are on the streets, it's an ugly disgrace.

if i had that kind of money i would absolutely use it to help people or give to charities but i sure as fuck wouldn't be recording myself doing it and posting it to youtube
If I had as much money as MrBeast, I'd spend it all on cocaine and hookers. I wouldn't even snort the cocaine, nor fuck the hookers. I'd just spend my money on these things, and tell all the butthurt poor "people" to go fuck themselves while sucking my dick

I'd likely spend it on helping out friends who I know have been struggling. Its a form of generosity and charity though more focused on personal connections. Wouldn't bother publicizing it I don't have any interest in advertising my wealth to randoms. Great way to get targeted, hated on, and robbed.
