Jesus fucking christ im obsessed with this stupid fucking song. Now I'm going to subject you to it. Post your favorite genre mashup / weird genre mixups.

I always liked the way that The Mavericks were able to blend country music with Latin and rockabilly:

They have a unique sound, but it somehow seems so natural, and it's uplifting to boot.

The entire genre of Dungeon Synth originated as a sort of fusion of black metal with dark ambient and video game music.

A lot of the artists involved in the second wave of black metal in the early 1990's were huge fans of ambient music, and often had their own side projects for ambient music all throughout the 1990's and early 2000's, and these side projects would often incorporate the signature black metal aesthetic and lo-fi production values into their music, and Dungeon Synth really sort of emerged from there.

It really took off in the 2010's with the rise of internet microgenres during that decade, but it could not have existed if it weren't for black metal bands in the 1990's doing ambient side projects and mixing the metal with the ambient.

In 2019 and continuing into 2020, another new sub-genre emerged within Dungeon Synth called Comfy Synth, which is often intended to evoke feelings of warm nostalgia or wistful melancholy and tend to draw aesthetics from fairy tales, folksy imagery, and sometimes childhood nostalgia as well.

Not sure if the Dungeon Synth genre counts as a genre crossover writ large...so I will also give a shout-out to the 1986 Beastie Boys classic Licensed to Ill, which freely blended hip-hop with hard rock

Techno + Punk = Firestarter.

(I can't believe it's been just over a year since Keith Flint passed away)
