I would recommend some classic Lovecraft. My personal favourites are The Color Out of Space, The Shadow over Innsmouth, The Haunter of the Dark and The Horror of Red Hook. They are all novella length.

Also Dracula, by Bram Stoker, is not only cheaply available, but is an effectively told gothic horror story though the use of journals, letters, and diary entrys.

Read William Peter Blatty's The Exorcist if you haven't already. I love the film but it's better and more investigative than the film.

F. Paul Wilson's books tend to blend horror and action. Give The Keep a shot and see if it's your cup of tea.

Clive Barker's Books of Blood are short story collections, but they're some of his best work.

Holy shit. Thanks guys.

And yea, Lovecraft fan as well. And I have read the Exorcist... over and over. Also Dracula... lol

Still, haven't heard of a couple already so will definitely check them out.

Lovecraft genuinely scares me. It's not so much the monsters he presents but the concept of the unknown like the Cthulhu. I do like the story where the cats kill these people who killed this little boy's cat. I like cats so yeah, people who hurt kitties deserve to die.

Stephen King's Desperation was pretty good. Stephen King can create some scary concepts that while meandering at times, are pretty creepy if you sit back and think about it. Also he doesn't pussy out when it comes to having horrible people and shit happen. Must be the drugs he did. Now that he's sober, it's all shit.

I recommend a non-horror book called Jamie by Jack Bennett. It's set in South Africa and tells the story of a young boy who seeks revenge for the water buffalo who killed his dad in front of him with a Mauser rifle. It's a short read but honestly a very good story. I still have my copy I got when the high school library was tossing old books that were barely being read.

120 days of Sodom by the Marquis de Sade.
He asked for horror, not romance, bro!

Interview with a Vampire is quite Gothic if you're into that...they sucked blood from the chests of orphan boys
Wow, that's really faggy. Then again, goths are giant fags.

That book will honestly chill anyone to the core more than any horror novel ever could.
There's a reason he went to prison. Dude whipped a beggar widow and did all kinds of weird shit that he should have been hanged.

Have you ever read Loki?

For real though, Stephen King's retarded cousing Dean Koontz is pretty good.

Especially the "Frankenstein" series.

Edgar Allen Poe's stuff is the extent of horror I know. Steven King also credits his works for getting him started on writing/horror writing.

Yeah, the movie it was so obvious they were totes homo for each other.

I never read the books, but I have that movie and atually watched the interview Anne Rice gave on the extras. The vampires in her stories were very gay for each other.

Also, she apparently begged Tom Cruise to not play Lestat, since she thought he lacked the gravitas or outright crazy to play the character. She changed her mind after seeing him act as Lestat. I love Tom Cruise in that movie. He's an absolute fucking monster, and he's clearly loving every second of it.

Cruise can play a good role. I think people say he sucks but honestly I think he's very savvy at picking roles that he knows he can act in. He plays a perfect Lestat from what I can see, I wish they had him do a cameo in American Psycho since he's mentioned in the book since Bateman has an awkward. I never read the books and honestly only saw Interview with a Vampire. Same with Pitt. People give him shit but honestly I think he does well for what roles he gets. Him as Achilles was actually not terrible. Him and Byrne really had some great chemistry. The movie was knocked for not being historically accurate but that was the point. It was meant to be more realistic than Homer's epic. Hence no gods are in the movie.

Are you asking for suggestions on what to read, or are you asking for suggestions on what to write (for a book)?
