Is this peak zoomer? Imagine voluntarily spending this much of your time on the worst possible websites. Imagine the psychiatrists explaining the cause of their children's anguish to the parents.
It's been said before, but being different from the norm was punished a lot more before the internet, with anti-bullying efforts trying to mitigate the worst aspects of it. Suddenly, everyone and their mother has access to a computer/smartphone from age 7 onwards, all of it centralised, readily available and extremely curated, with poorly enforced safeguards and complete alienation culturewise from people past 30. The internet had its problems well before the advent of social media, but its availability and possibility to obscure one's identity and intentions were harder, and not nearly as normalised as today. End result is a progressive case of dissasocation (as the web is not representative of real life, yet) and later, a dose of hyperreality. Soon, we'll have an entire generation of people whose tastes are no longer recognisable within their own subgroup.
Those in charge can't do anything to counter this, as new standards are set year after year and the general consensus is that the kids will come around, as they always have.
Older people can't fathom the dissonance this causes among the youth and society at large, nothing important will change in the meantime and we will get to witness the end of postmodern society within our lifetime.
TL;DR: children need to be made clear what is socially acceptable, now more than ever. Remember, early and often.
