Botanist is wonderful. I do not like gin at all but was given a bottle of this. Some ice cubes and fresh OJ with it, and it was simply divine.

Yeah citrus will typically pair very well with most gins and I can see OJ working really well with the intense herbal/botanical notes in Botanist without washing them out.

It did! I could still taste the Gin-ness of it, it didn't block it out. It bought out the flavour of both really well, actually. As someone who has always believed themselves to be not a gin drinker, I was pleasantly surprised.m

Dunno if you're a cocktail drinker but I usually make a Bramble or a Floradora for people who tell me they're not gin drinkers and it usually converts them, so you might enjoy them

I fucking love Gin. I miss boozing mainly because of gin. All of the best classic cocktails are gin-forward. Beefeater and Plymouth (Navy Strength of course) are fine go-to bottles.

bloom gin is probably my favourite non-flavoured gin, and then their rose flavoured gin is my favourite flavoured gin (tastes like turkish delight with a splash of lemonade in it)

other than that, tarquins and brockmans are really nice. i prefer gin that isn't flavoured, but is sweeter and less 'botanical' than your average gin, i guess

I picked up a bottle of Broker’s to restock for my weekly poker game. Seems to work pretty well while being less citrusy than Beefeater.

I find Tanqueray leaves with me a sickly feeling, it's not a good drunk, I have tried another gin called Aviation (Ryan Reynolds approved!) that is much better but is of course much more expensive, I would describe at least Tanqueray as having a "medicinal" quality I don't think I like.

Overall I don't think I'm a gin guy, but maybe it depends on the cocktail, however dirty martinis is the main way I've consumed Tanqueray gin and it just leaves me feeling sick.

You might also want to try Plymouth. It’s a storied brand and is different enough from Tanqueray and London Dries in general that it might work better for you.

re: absinthe - it's a fucking meme. If you really want anise liquor you're better off with ouzo or yeniraki. I could see absinthe being worth trying at least once for shiggles, but beyond that? Meh.

99% of the people who have tried absinthe have either a) had the cheap imitation shit from an airport duty free, or b) drank it in a fashion wholly unsuited to how it's actually supposed to be drunk.

Import some legit French stuff with the appropriate AOC label, get some ice cold mineral water, and filter that shit through a sugar cube - ideally using the appropriate stemware and paraphernalia. Do NOT light it on fire, as that's a retarded gimmick and only takes away from the natural taste of the alcohol.

A legit absinthe served properly is a fine drink. It's a shame many people haven't had it.

Per the thread: I've recently been enjoying an occasional G&T using a variety of the bog-standard gins - Bombary Sapphire, Gordon's, Bulldog et al. Schweppes tonic to mix, ice ball, lemon or lime depending on how fruity I feel. Good stuff. I'll always be a wine cunt though.

Some pre-prohibition drinks call for it in dashes like you’d use bitters too. That seems to work pretty well when it’s called for.
